Also worth to mention that there is only a 5 kg loadcell inside the brake-cylinder which is actually measuring travel, not pressure. Some people claim they have problems because of it.
@bourbonbristles
@bourbonbristles 4 месяца назад
I think this is a bit misunderstood. I'm not an expert, so take it as you will, but to my knowledge (and a tiny bit of research) all these types of load cells measure "deflection" or travel. The sensor itself doesn't measure "raw pressure", the deflection or travel is converted from pressure by whatever "block" the sensor is attached to and how the design is calibrated. The stiffer the block the more pressure is needed to deflect the strain gauge on the sensor (thicker metal is harder to bend). Typical sim racing load cells just stack elastomers and springs against the load cell block, and so you apply pressure directly on the block, which transfers to deflection or "travel"" on the sensor. Asetek basically deconstructed the typical load cell and somewhat inversed the direction of force applied to the sensor. In their design the elastomer is pushing against a solid "block" not directly attached linearly to load cell sensor. And then, a weaker spring is used to push against and deflect the sensor itself based on the amount of pressure you can apply through the elastomer against the solid block. The effect is the same, but the math and calibration is different. You could also argue that you can achieve better resolution across the sensor's available deflection this way as you have more control on the calibration since you don't have the block directly attached to the sensor. So while I agree people have issues with it because it requires a different calibration technique, I think saying that it doesn't measure pressure like others do is misleading. The Asetek CEO addressed this in a RU-vid video and I think explained it reasonably well. Is it a better design? No idea. But IMHO the design has gotten way too much unjustified hate. (sorry for the novel)
@Leynad778
@Leynad778 4 месяца назад
@@bourbonbristlesThe normal loadcells are 100 or 200 kg, so they are measuring pressure. You can replace the elastomers with solid plastics and they still work.
@bourbonbristles
@bourbonbristles 4 месяца назад
@@Leynad778 Yes, on the same page there, but the 100-200kg is the force you can apply to the "body" of the load cell to cause the strain gauge attached to it to deflect. Load cell = strain gauge + metal body. Take away the metal body and you have the strain gauge, which you'll find in the Asetek pedal. They just moved the metal body to a different component. So, as long as they have calibrated the force needed to compress the spring, which deflects the gauge, you'll get the same result, and it is still measuring pressure. Change the system incorrectly, though, and you throw off the calibration, and then travel may affect the pressure more than on a standard load cell. For example, I switch out the elastomers for a spring for driving street cars/trucks. Gives me more travel and less required pressure across the range. It's still measuring the pressure of a spring compressing against the sensor. Having said that, I do think that the system isn't as "robust" as a typical load cell, so eventually, that spring's properties will change and alter the measurement of the force, faster and more inconsistently than a standard block. Not exactly sure why they choose this system but I do like how adjustable it is.
@Leynad778
@Leynad778 4 месяца назад
@@bourbonbristlesI haven't tried it, but people talking about issues with this concept regarding lack of precision and problems to calibrate properly. Scaling down a 200 kg loadcell to 5 kg certainly doesn't help with precision and the slightest difference in friction of the elastomer within the caliber, for example due to heat expansion, has too much of an impact on the tiny spring and loadcell. But again, I haven't tried it, but Dan Suzuki was talking about his problems with the brake and I certainly take him serious.

One thing that seems undercommunicated with these (and the Invicta pedals) is how incredibly rediculously stiff they are, thankfully you highlighted it here. I bought a set of Invicta pedals, had them for a weekend, then returned them. They are solidly built, but unless you are only using them as intended by stomping on the brake to hit the second stage, then rolling off for trail braking then you will not enjoy them. Applying smaller brake inputs to alter the balance of the car or settle it out is rather hit and miss as it just feels like you are pushing up against a wall. I found them OK for GT3 racing, and downright horrible for rally in Dirt 2.0 or road cars in Assetto Corsa. In addition to the stiffness the Invictas also had a noticable stickyness to the travel when going on/off the brakes. It was audible, you could feel it when racing and even see it in the pedal force trace graphs. Very much a try before you buy pedal set - either you will love them or hate them, but the latter is an expensive experience given the restock fee of 20% as I had mounted them for testing. Edit: Before anyone comments, I'm a fairly well trained guy, and I don't skip leg day, but these pedals are just silly. Without the g-forces of a real car giving you feedback on how hard you are braking you just feel like you are pushing into a wall that flexes ever so slightly under food. I ended up getting a set of SimGrade VX-pro's instead and I could not be happier. They can be set up softer than Fanatec V3's or even stiffer than the Invictas, and they have an adjustable travel length to the second stage. Best of all worlds. I did a bit of a reddit review on them here: www.reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/1aw6bng/i_switched_from_asetek_invicta_to_simgrade_vxpros/

Yes, all of the new Fanatec direct drive systems come with the QR2 base side. In terms of the rims, I know some of them do but I also know some don’t come with a QR system at all so it’s just a matter of carefully checking on their website before purchasing.

Im thinking about getting my first wheel and want help deciding, so rn g29 is on amazon for 230, and the t248 is on amazon used for 280, should i get any of these or get some more money and choose some other wheels or even direct drive wheels. I would prefer ps support since i have gt7, alongside pc games. Also, is it worth to get ps support for gt7? Or is it better to get a better wheel with only pc support since there arent alot of cheap direct drive wheels with ps support
@OCRacing
@OCRacing 5 месяцев назад
Hey, both the G29 and T248 are decent entry-level wheels, the step-up to a direct drive system will be a night and day difference though. In terms of entry-level direct-drives, you can find what I recommend here: www.ocsimracing.com/reviews/sim-racing-for- If you constantly play on your playstation as well as on your PC, it may be worth it to consider something like the Fanatec GT DD Pro which offers support for PS4/5. However, if you don't play much on your Playstation and mostly on PC, the increase in price may not be worth it. Let me know your thoughts.

For the 60 dollar difference between the g29 and t248, which would u recommend. Im not gonna pull the trigger just yet, ill play gt7 more and see if i want to get ps support. I currently plan to play acc, forza motorsport, f1 on pc. Ill let you know what choice i land on, whenever i do since this is a expensive hobby😂 If i do think that ps support is not important, would something like the moza r5 or csl bundle be a good choice or is there something even a better choice? Thanks for the help

@OCRacing 5 месяцев назад
@@craxxfn1055 For the $60 difference, I would say go for the T248. With regards to budget DD systems, the R5 or CSL bundles are the best in the market at the moment in my opinion. I’ve used and recommend all the Fanatec products you’ve mentioned, and me personally I’ve been happy with them. As such I would go with those. Yeah, not something I would buy. I play on PC and PS. I also drive a lot of "H" pattern clutch stuff. I bought the Fanatec Inverted pedals, added a very heavy spring from "Menards" and a 7" long 18 lbs lift strut which slows it down but makes it feel more like the clutch I had in my old school KW semi. I drive a lot of American Truck Sim. I also added the softest of the hard rubbers for the brake. If I could have installed a Fanatec damper for a reasonable price, after I bought the pedals when they were $700 a couple of years ago. I also bought the Fanatec H pattern, an 8 N GT DD some fixed paddle shifter... Yeah, a lot of money, a lot of fun.

Also dont let anybody tell you that you cant get the same performoance with a more sensitive softer pedal. I perform better with more sensitivity and softer pedals. For me it came naturally.
