My favorite part is when Rachel is tired from pushing and asks if Ross can do it for her 😅 I remember having that exact same thought when I was having a hard time pushing
@Nurse_zabe

Yes! That is a thought that goes through everyone’s mind when they push for a long time!

Thank you so much for this video! Friends is one of my favorite shows, and I am in my last year of nursing school to become a labor and delivery nurse. Your channel is so amazing and educational!

Such good information! 👍 I had a doula client with an undiagnosed breech baby. She came SUPER fast and surprised everyone!

The surprise breech vaginal births at my facility have definitely been fast or the second twin. Not after hours of labor with ruptured membranes and multiple cervical exams. Lol

Thank you so much for your videos Elizabeth, they are great! Can you explain further what you said about the doctor's hands in the pushing stage when they found out that the baby is breech? So the hands are bad for tearing and swelling?
@Nurse_zabe
@Nurse_zabe Год назад
So hands-off pushing (aka not keeping fingers/hands inside the vagina) can decrease tears because constantly manipulating the tissue can cause it to swell and be more fragile. Sometimes we can assess if pushing is effective by feeling fetal descent during a push. Sometimes with an epidural a little extra pressure can help you push in the right space. As baby is crowning, it might be beneficial for your provider to place a hand outside the perineum to guard it, too. But especially if you don’t have an epidural, I’m not placing or keeping my hands inside the vagina because it’s not comfortable!

@@Nurse_zabe Oh wow! My midwives for sure didn't go by "hands-off", they grabbed on and just kept hanging on there! In my first delivery the midwife said she was doing it show the direction where to push. I had gotten the paracervical shot, but wasn't numb, so I thought it was weird advice. In the second delivery there were two midwives in the very last stage of pushing in there with both their two hands. I hadn't taken any medication and it was super awkward, uncomfortable and painful. It was distracting me from concentrating. I asked them to stop and take their hands off, but they wouldn't and just told me they needed to do it to prevent tearing... By the way in my country (Finland) midwives help deliver most babies. In hospitals, because there are no birthing centers. Delivering at home is not recommended and only very few do it. The doctor only comes to the birth if there is a risk or something going wrong. You can not choose your provider, in most cities there is only one hospital (from smaller cities you have to drive to a big one) and they are all public. The first time you see your midwife is when you walk in to the delivery room. I think it would have been very nice to get to choose your midwife your self, like you do in many other countries. The good thing with our public health care system is that you only pay for your birth and the days you stay at the hospital, about 50 euros per day and that's it!

Haha Yes! I feel like I get so mad now every time I see labour scenes on tv shows! Except I have to say my water breaking Was abit like the movies 😅 was asleep and felt something odd so got out of bed and Splosh! and then labour continued from there (think likely missed early contractions in my sleep)

@@Nurse_zabe- Umm...how far dilated do you have to be to get an epidural? 🥺

I was told by a freind that the nearest hospital will only let you give birth on your back with the stirrups and that they told her it's the only safe way. I'm really hoping it's not true because if it is I might be switching to a home birth
@Nurse_zabe
@Nurse_zabe Год назад
I certainly hope that isn’t the case, because that’s 100% not true or evidence based. Here’s the thing: they don’t run the show, you do. But at the same time you shouldn’t have to be fighting during your labor. 😢

Curious why they may put oxygen on the mom. I pushed for two hours and held my breath when pushing, at some point they gave me oxygen and it makes me think I wasn't doing great breathing during delivery
@Nurse_zabe
@Nurse_zabe Год назад
Oxygen actually used to be given as a first line resuscitation effort for decelerations in the fetal heart rate. The thought process was by increasing your oxygen levels that we could increase how baby was receiving oxygen, but studies have shown that this actually isn’t as effective if your oxygen levels were fine and might have consequences. So if a baby’s heart rate goes down it might be something that we try if other measures don’t work, but it’s not often the first thing that we try anymore. I hope that makes sense!

You mentioned the pelvis and relaxin I’m wondering if I can ask a question, with my first pregnancy 7 years ago I had bad pelvic girdle pain where it felt like my hip would pop out and it was painful. I was told it was because of relaxin. It happened occasionally for about a year after birth. I went on to have my second child and it wasn’t as bad but it did happen again where my hip would feel like it’s popping out. 2 years postpartum and I’m still having trouble with the same hip popping out and causing a sharp horrible pain, I’ve googled that sometimes it never goes back to normal,do you have any experience with this? Love your videos x
@Nurse_zabe
@Nurse_zabe Год назад
I actually have experience with this personally. I saw a pelvic floor PT and we were able to work on strengthening the muscles that support the pelvis and it helped tremendously!

@@Nurse_zabe I’m been meaning to go visit the doctor for ages about it! I was referred to physio during pregnancy with my first but most people have the pain stop after birth and the hormones reduce, it’s just strange that 2 years after my second baby and I still have bad hip pain from it, good to know things can help though so I’ll definitely speak to my GP X
