Labour Suspends Strike For 5 Days As FG To Make Offer Above N60,000 As New Minimum Wage

Nigerians can now heave a temporary sigh of relief, as the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC suspended its 2-day strike for one week.
This followed the Federal Government's agreement to offer a new minimum wage higher than its initial offer of 60,000 naira. This agreement was reached after a joint meeting on Monday.
The Federal Government is expected to resume talks with Organised Labour to continue negotiations for a new national minimum wage.

The national security is only threatened when NLC shuts down the grid. The number of times that the national grid has collapsed this year, was the national security not threatened? How many noise was made about it. I don’t support NLC shutting down the grid, but your fixation on the national grid and leaving the main issues that led to the strike calls for questioning. You guys were talking from both sides of the mouth. You talked about taxes and electricity affecting the small businesses. Who is responsible for that? Is it NLC? Jide, in a situation whereby Government doesn't pay its workers' salaries for 6 months don't you think it has also violated the Labour Law Act 1999 as amended ? Could you have said because of the violation it must be sent to the gallows ? You see nobody in Nigeria abides by the law. Everybody does what he feels like. I could imagine that the Labour Chairman had in fact trespassed and violated the law but then when you think about it arguably ignorance may have been the cause. Necessity sometimes knows no law and in that regard taking action may be inappropriate . But here in diaspora everybody abides by the law irrespective of who you think you are. The 30,000 K minimum wage is too small in a Nation where surplus abound . Inflation oozing out by the second. And no Price Control . And to make it even worse kidnapping for ransom is everywhere as kathehymeral business. Nearly all the women turned Prostitutes. Farmers can no longer access their respective farms in fear of losing their lives to book Haram. It is this development aiding and abetting the current strike for people can take it no more . So my dear Jide, that is the reality.

True, the politicians cornered the judiciary to make more money for themselves. Labour are there, civil liberty organisations and our people are there. We are not doing anything. It started with Obasanjo & PDP increasing councillor's pay above doctor's pay. Labour didn't challenged this.
