I always thought it was deliberate, that they wanted this to be a coming of age story and the villain had to be totally grown, totally male, and his crotch intimidating the way "newness" of a sexual nature is to young people, but also alluring and necessary.
+Stephanie Bergmann - It's Beautiful Haunting child like innocent THEN THE BULGE GRABS YOU and WON'T LET GO. It kills me as I love the movie but that was so cheesy bad.
Thank you for uploading this. What's funny, as an adolescent, I never noticed how tight his pants were. I was too busy oggling his hair and his pretty face. LOL As a grown woman...well... *runs off to buy anniversary dvd*
I haven’t seen the film in many years maybe decades. Just saw it at cinema last week. That’s how I first noticed (in my forties) and ended up here. I’m grateful the film was off limits at my house (as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse) even if things were not explained to me. I understand so much more now that I can think for myself.
How could anyone not see how tight those pants were? I just saw the movie for the first time last month and every time he stood still, all I kept thinking was how those pants were way too tight! Every time you could see how tight his pants were, I felt like a little kid watching a kissing scene. It made it hard to concentrate on those scenes.
WHO complains about Bowie's pants being sewn on like...like a crotch corset? I'm ASKING. PLUS WHICH Who expects to see Bowie in loose pants?? EVER? He has such amazing style. Not the sort of person who wears sweatpants to the corner market.
THANK YOU BRIAN FROUD! Young straight girls and gay boys EVERYWHERE thank you for this glorious attention to detail, and for the yummy wet dreams it inspired for us. I know I did...OK, still do!
I just showed my bf this movie for the first time the other day. He was silent through the entire thing, but then at the end, he looked at me and said "You could see his bulge through that entire movie." I'm dead :p
To my younger self, the movie was cool but Bowie's man-goods were excellent. Going through puberty at 10 yrs old helped, but I'm pretty sure that this movie had a big part in making me the awesome pervy woman I am today.
its a little known fact that his crotch was the only thing they wanted for the movie. It talked them in to letting the rest of David Bowie appear in the film.
Is there any possibility you could upload the rest of this documentary? It's different from "Inside the Labyrinth," and I'd really like to see it! Please?
OMG GAH!! AHAHAH LOLMAO. They did it on PURPOSE!! Rock Star bulges!! I thought it was 'Oh Bowie has a package we have a hardtime hiding in the tights' No they were STUFFING IT! As a 15-16yo girl I WOULDN'T STOP LOOKING, Connelly was so mature professional!!
My mom watched it with me at the labyrinth quote along and my mom and the whole theater were swooned she talked about how good his "package" was. It was awkward since she said that...
I have to say I am a teen who watched it at the tender age of four or so. Didn't notice. Fast forward to age 16. Inner self says"Holy shit! How did I NOT notice that?" Now I can't stop noticing. Thank you Jim Henson. And thank you David Bowie.
I SAW THAT MOVIE WHEN I WAS 12 IN 1989, I SWEAR IT SENT ME INTO EARLY PUBERTY THANKS TO THOSE FLIPPING TIGHT TROUSERS, I HAD A FULL ON CRUSH ON THE MAN.
The first time I saw this movie my friend got upset with me because instead of taking it seriously I laughed at how many times they do subtle closeups of the cockbulge
Me and my friends noticed The Crotch when we were 8. Had us laughing for days! XD We kept making jokes about how there was a boulder down the Goblin King's trousers. Now it's less funny, more, "Wow, David Bowie's one heck of a man!"
They can't touch my swag levels. Or my swagger stick... unless they ask nicely. =P But this honestly gave me an idea. When I have kids, and I take them trick-or-treating, just slap on some tights cause, you know, my name and all. I wonder how long I'd go before getting arrested.
The singer Lulu was interviewed shortly after Bowie's death and said of the British icon, 'He had these long, beautiful legs." She didn't mention how many. ;)
It's funny to read these comments about how everyone saw it when they were little and had no idea about the bulge. Me? I didn't know what it was. I just that was where he hid his crystals. :D
Mr Bowie's "jewels" were so evident since his Ziggy Stardust's tight stage costumes. About this movie, I wonder if a 3D edition will be ever released...
@auuggghhh Yes I would be glad to upload it for you but it will have to wait until the weekend I'm afraid! I'm super busy with an essay for college at the moment but will do!
You're all aware that you're looking at a codpiece, right? ;) Sly genius on the part of Froud and Henson, making a character that represents retreating into childhood fantasy the embodiment of all that is alluring and yet frightening about adulthood.
