@@salimaa9209 It's from the dark souls series. People tell you to git gud (get good) when you struggle. And the meme in HK is that hornet say something that sounds a lot like git gud when you fight her the first time
The time signature of this song is psychotic. It starts in 5/4 time, already unusual, but slips into 3/4 during the Call & Response at 0:15. At 1:13, it shimmies into some nigh-incomprehensible-to-lesser-beings nonsense that I swear to God is either 6/4 or 4th dimensional. Larkin is, without question, a Pale Being. Not by mortal hand is such music penned.
I'm sure you meant psychotic as a compliment. This track has a special vibe in any case. For me it captures that warm giddy feeling we felt having got all worked up playing as a child. But with the understanding we all took it seriously. At least that is the main impression it leaves me with. Sometimes I would get that feeling again during a fencing match, so taking into consideration where the track is from... Larkin is indeed without question a Pale Being.
hornet, probably the most simplest char design i ever seen in video game for a character. a mask, red mantle and a needle.thats it. yet she just attract everyone, she appear probably less than 1 hour in HK game but something about her just tell me she is a damn interesting character. and now she got her own game now lol,
I think it has to do with the sense of elegance she gives off. Mysterious, quick, elegant, deadly. Her red mantle is nothing like we see in ALL of the game. In fact, only the Grimm Troupe have any red color in them aside from Hornet. She stands tall in front of the Knight, and her needle, pointy, sharp and thin gives off this quick and deadly sensation to it. How she leads you into her arena into Greenpath, how her theme is, again, quick, majestic, dangerous, tense. The strings in her song akin to the strings she uses to attack you. The quick pace like the lighting speed she dashes at you and throws her needle forward. And may I say, Hornet Protector isn't even that fast, but for that stage in the game you're probably not completely used to the controls and Hornet is the first enemy so fast we encounter. (Hornet Sentinel is an absolute pain in the ass though). I feel this is why she's so memorable, so mesmerizing. Team Cherry did an absolutely astounding job with her.
Ah, I forgot to mention. Her voice. Her voice isn't silly or monstrous like other enemies we encounter. No. Her voice is determined, intimidating, strong. Full of energy at every attack she throws at you. Even when she giggles as she jumps backwards to take distance, it feels like she's DANCING with you.
@@gebdemedici agree, why hornet is memorable is how she stands out in the environment and how team cherry let her interact with the knight is a meaningful way but the design of hollow knight is generally pretty simple yet give each character enough distinction, the slender build of the mantis lord, the roundness of the dung defender and the false knight and the fluffy fur of the radiance
I completely agree on the other responses, also, it's amazing how this went from a DLC idea to "we had so many ideas that we decided to make another game" I just can't get my hype for the game to get off my head
@@goddessdeedeebubblesofimag7789 Hornet will end the fight when she's exhausted, but she will otherwise keep fighting until the Knight is dead, which means that if is a fight to the death, albeit a one-sided one. Most video game boss fights involve someone trying to kill you, which can create weird moments in story focused games if there isn't much narrative reason to do so, or if the characters are inexplicably casual about it *cough* Undertale *cough*.
@@mostdefinitelynotaguineapi7566 tbf, in undertale they kill you because you are their only way out of the underground. Why are they so chill afterwards? Well, because of Frisks irresistible flirting of course!!!
I love how you can sort of pair this song with Hornet's theme too, and its like a very aggressive dance. Hornet's notes are more elegant while Lace's has more power behind them. absolutely love it
I agree. Both Hornet and Lace's themes have this fierceness. Christopher Larkin has put a lot of thought, effort and love into composing the soundtrack. I'm sure we will not be disappointed.
Maybe this means Lace will be a bit more brash than hornet in personality, and fighting style. Hornet is very bold and brave, but still has an elegance to her. Lace, while still elegant, may be a bit snobby.
I can't wait to enter the secret secret secret room set off the bonus area in the challenge portion of the map and stand in the middle of the stage when Shadelord melts out of the wall to introduce me to Grimmteenager and the tiny little baby moths he rescued.
@@yoshifan2334 Do I? We know these people, though; I state my thought sincerely ;-] (Yes, sarcasm can be tough to judge over written words. Beware the face-value what you read, friends.)
@@el_selvi100 If you pressed really hard on the strings, (and had a shit ton of rosin), you might be able to produce the sound, but then you have to avoid scratchiness.
@@Tyxaar Oh god that's a point. Imagine the speedrunners like fireb0rn in this game. The game's launch itself aside, that is something I can not wait to see.
Me who's arguably pretty good at NKG fight, unintentionally beat radiance while tryna learn how to dodge her attacks well, and in godhome beat artist pantheon first try and can practically cheese hornet protector with grubberfly's elegy: *unsure but confident*
Silksong is going to play on a Nintendo Direct in the future, and the release date will be “Right after this Direct ends”, and everyone will lose their minds.
Dinoman972 He’s going off from Team Cherry’s placeholder date on Steam, which isn’t too reliable. If the world was normal right now, I’d say it’d come out before June, but because of the whole pandemic thing, I’d say it’ll probably be some time after June. I’d LOVE it if I was wrong though! I’ve been starving for ANY news regarding this game for months now!
@@thesnatcher3616 if Larkin can pump out an entire soundtrack as fantastic as the two samples we’ve gotten, then I’ll be shocked if Silksong doesn’t win soundtrack of the year. Hopefully it won’t get snubbed at TGA like Hollow Knight was.
Oh boy, I just can't wait for the inevitable Lace rematch (and possibly double rematch depending on how they want to paint her) where her combo does *4* masks total
@Zavier Cheek all of it, all the endings, all stages where we interact, I mean I probably won't work with the game design but hey this is Team Cherry we're talking about their geniuses when it comes to this... just look at grimm he worked out at the end
I dont think we would against OUR little knight, but we could get a fight vs another vessel. I can totally see that happening, i know it would be epic, so do you, and so does Team Cherry.
Yeah, and it can be where if you played the 1st game and your Ghost had gotten strong enough, that knight would transport over to the 2nd game and fight you "to Death`s door", so-to-speak.
Wow, i know what you mean. And that's part of what makes it so fantastic. It's very illogical to enjoy this but the imperfect human mind cannot fight it. This is a masterpiece.
@@themitochondriaisthepowerh2225 ah the good times when half of the fan base thought silksong was being released February 1st and there was clown memes everywhere you looked.
This is probably my favorite theme in all of the hollow knight soundtracks, and silksong isn’t even out yet: looking to be better than I could have possibly imagined
@@BladesofElysian Hmmm. As an artist I find value in comparing my current work to my own previous work. If I look at the work of others, I'll feel that I'll never catch up, and that's because they are improving everyday like I am and already are further down the road than me. That doesn't mean I can't be darn good and even better at certain techniques than them though. And they might even look at my stuff and covet the techniques I have just like I do with theirs. Artists have different strengths and those will appeal to different people. Can we really say one is better? I've never heard of this Coker guy though, so thanks for the music suggestion, I'll check him out!
@@Artofjoe I was unsure where this comment was going... Yeah, go ahead, check him out. His ost for the first Ori game is beautiful, but his ost for the sequel- I don't know how he did it. It is a gift bestowed to us mortals by some high power.
BladesofElysian They’re both fantastic composers, I think i personally like the thematic variety and interaction between the themes in Hollow Knight so much. I think the main thing that sorta held the hollow knight soundtrack back is that it was very digital-sounding in parts, which seems to be very different in the sequel, if this track is any indication. This makes me REALLY excited for the rest of the soundtrack.
i love how this song is like the dung defender's, it's.. in some way not as tense and more of an up-spirited song and is enjoyable. For some reason this makes the boss easier to defeat, like how i defeated Hornet faster then the soul master. i believe this has to do with how much i enjoy their themes or something like that. and trust me, this song gives me the s h i v e r s . i l o v e it
If you ever have to play this song in an orchestra (which I have done) here are a few tips: Buy the game and memorize every time this song is used When you play the piece, think of all the times it is used in game. Makes it more enjoyable
1- Hope there’s video/audio on that performance. Would be really nice to hear it! 2- I’m sure a lot of people would like to buy the game and do what you sau but IT ISN’T OUT YET *crying* 3- As a player in a videogame music band I join your recomendation, it’s awesome to do that! Points 1 and 2 were just wanting to hear an orchesrra version of the song and crying about silksong not being released yet :(
Imagine they give hornet something similar to the pantheons in silk song and at the end of one you go to the first room where she fights the knight, the player recognises it and the knight jumps down
be honest with yourself. you are still listening to this song to this very day. we all have hope that silksong will come out one day, even if you are part of r/SilksongIsntReal, you still believe in it.
Team cherry said that you can do a taunt, which can make hornet say “git gud” I found the interview! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6n3pFFPSlW4.html
Thank you so much for giving me something to loop in the background while I frantically smash my way through writing for my degree. It really helps me to focus.
For some reason, I saw shipart of Hornet and Lace on Insta lol. _-like, so far they've only tried to kill each other in their one interaction, but that somehow equals romantic chemistry I guess--_
Johann Sebastian Bach? Ludwig van Beethoven? No! Christopher Larkin! Here is the best composer of all time! Truth. Your soundtracks for Hollow Knight and Hollow Knight: Silksong are just beautiful!
I cannot tell you how many times I have put this song on and just let it run. I can't wait for this song to be complete with the sound of battle cries and attacks.
What if you combined Hornet and Lace's theme? I tried to do the no skill version and ended up playing Lace's theme and Hornets with Hornet's theme 6 seconds behind, and it works(kinda, but not really)
I mean, the time signatures are completely different, and on top of that, the transposition will take some work. Similarly to what was previously said, this is not impossible. My question is... Should I transpose Lace into the key of C, or if I should transpose Hornet to the key of B flat?
Im late to this but the amazing differences in hollow knights music being how the knight views the bosses and the world dark sad sometimes powerful imposing themes like the mantis lords themes having a royal yet dangerous feel to it while this theme feels like it flows like silk with energy and pride showing how hornet views lace like a warrior similar to her fighting with pride to probably protect her kingdom whatever its called, the music also has this feeling like hornet or lace are enjoying fighting each other
We know Lace will be a recurrent fight, like Hornet was in the original game. This OST, for a boss battle, is also much more "epic" and "heroic" than the usual for the previous game, again similar to Hornet's fights. I believe Lace is not our enemy, but someone who needs to test our strength or doesn't understand our side yet, but will be a powerful ally in our journey through Pharloom.
@@goddessdeedeebubblesofimag7789 yep how naive I was back then... unfortunately I’m still just as foolishly hopeful she or the knight will be in smash 6
@@JacobPDeIiNoNi I just pray that _at _*_least_* there will be hollow knight spirits added to smash ultimate later. (I don't think there will be a smash 6)
