It's terrible to be the persona-non-grata of the family. Though I am not that in my family, I am not a musician, etc, as are my siblings, and therefore, while my academic achievement has merit, it still is seen as less than; at least in my opinion.

I wonder why she hung around the Abbey after Michael died and she got Marigold back. After all, she had a gorgeous flat in London.
@coffeebean8790
@coffeebean8790 2 года назад
@@jmarie9997 I think maybe a lot of it has to do with Cora's influence. As I recall, there were moments in Season 3 where she was not so subtly trying to convince Tom to stay at Downton Abbey with Sybbie by stating that she thought children were best raised in families. We don't hear her say that when she's trying to convince Edith to come back to Downton Abbey with Marigold, but I wouldn't be surprised if, at some point, Cora probably said something to Edith about how much better off and happier Marigold would be at Downton Abbey with Sybbie and George rather than off in some flat. Plus, there's the fact that Edith was, until she married Bertie, a working and single mother. While she may have had issues with her family, it's pretty hard to turn down offered help in a situation like that.

And more discouragement when she wanted to pursue something.Neither Edith was good nor Mary in the beginner at terms of behaviour and attitude towards each other but we saw more of their charecter in the later series and at last they had a relatively happy ending.

The new feature film reveals that Edith is going back into journalism. So, it seems she didn't sell the company, just that she isn't involved in the business anymore given her duties as a Marchioness. I'd find it heart-warming to learn that Edith groomed Marigold in journalism and the running of the company, so that she could turn it over to her once she came of age. That way, Marigold will truly have her father's legacy as her own.

It's no wonder Edith was such a lost soul for most of the seasons. In a way you feel sorry for her. Mary being the oldest, always had men flocking to her while Cora and Robert always seemed to make her needs a priority over Edith's. Robert didn't even try to give Edith some confidence in regards to her new job. In a way Michael Gregson was the greatest thing to ever happen to Edith. If it wasn't for him, she never would have gained ownership of his company nor the confidence to prove to herself and her family that she can be a strong, independent woman 💕

@@m.layfette6249 not judging or criticizing, but how have you not earned the right?? I was born in the u.s., registered to vote when i was 18 (let’s just say, 30+ years ago) I used to be able to go vote by myself, but in the last 10 years or so, my sight has declined appreciably (born with some eye issues, which have caused other eye issues as I’ve aged), and i am blessed that for now, my geriatric mother is willing to take me, read the ballot, and sign an affidavit that she didn’t influence me. After 2016, my district was one of many that spent the money to buy adaptive equipment and a poll worker was willing to learn how to use it. My mother is offered a chair, sits just far enough away i can call her to ask her a question, and the poll worker stands a bit further away, so that he can’t see what I’m doing or hear my mother and i talking, but close enough that if i have a problem, he can be there immediately. And always, as we leave, I’m offered an “i voted!” Sticker. I always politely refuse, because my mother isn’t willing to drive me to NYC to put the sticker on the grave of Susan B Anthony. So, I’m in the habit of saying, “thank you suffragettes.”

@@robertandhollyscorpiofan2697 I too was born in America. Lived in the same city and same state for over 40-years. I registered too late to vote for President Clinton during his first term in office. Which made me mad at the time because I was young and eager to cast my ballot. Fast forward to present day, and I am Proud to say that I have voted in every election, both local and presidential. During the pandemic was the first time I voted via absentee ballot. TBH, it kinda spoiled me. It was simple, easy and as someone who is immunocompromised, it was a relief to just drop off my ballot and not wait in long lines. My state held it's Primary this past week. I voted in-person this time, just didn't take the time to apply for an absentee ballot. I went towards the end of the day and the lines weren't that long. (Mores the pity for a local election. Digressing for now.) Anyway, I say all of this because as an African American Woman, my ancestors fought and continue to fight nail and tooth to earn and retain the Right to Vote in this country. As an American, I am proud of the work of the Suffragettes and Abolitionists whose sacrifices paved the way for the rights and freedoms, some take for granted. Each day I hear news stories and read headlines about voting rights and women's rights being snatched away by those who think they know what's best. My vote matters. My voice matters. My life matters. My body matters. My love matters. My education matters. My freedom matters.

But I was always adjudged as having insufficient intelligence to do anything beyond the absolute basics of life. Rather like Lady Edith. Years later I proved them ALL wrong. But now I have trust issues with most people, and am terribly independant, since I REFUSE at any time, ANY help from ANYONE. I've been on my own from day ONE, and that's the way it stays. I don't need them to do anything for me. I'm perfectly capable of doing things on my own, and the point about THIS little rant is thst I can So well understand Lady Ediths pain and bitterness. She too has been treated like garbage her life. Poor love.

@@lizb853 Sister, you're not alone in this! I technically have support from my family etc. but whenever I do something which isn't even a big deal for me, like run for 10 km, they are shocked I could. They say they're proud, but to hell, I did that thousands of times and you still act like it's the first time? Also I feel like I was always on the second place, after my older sister and ok, she needed my parents attention more than me, but hell, I was just a girl who was turning into teenager and since the I've felt like I've always been less important. Always less attention, less time spend together, less everything. So now, few years later, when I'm an adult, I don't feel that need of their attention anymore, they don't know a lot about me and I don't feel like I can trust them with everything. If I wasn't important enough for them then, so they could spend some time with ME, when I was nearly begging, why should I feel I'm important for them now?
