She looks beautiful but if you listen to or read recent interviews, Gaga was actually quite depressed around this time. This is shortly prior to the whole Manager/DWUW chaos. I love her so much and it sucks that ARTPOP hasn't been getting the recognition it deserves. But I'm sure she is happy, she's been with Taylor for quite some time and things seem to be going great.
Actually I see her much happier now with Joanne. In fact, I think ARTPOP was the era which I saw her really really sad. But yes, it's one my favourite albums from her.
It's sad how people say negative things about her performances, considering that she is one of the best live performers with perfect vocal cords. Along with Ariana and Bruno.
That's why they attack her theatrics, costumes, etc. They have zero grounds to stand on if they want to criticize her vocals. No one can deny that she has perfect vocals, and if they do, they are tone deaf. Actually, I honestly think most people are tone deaf...
She is not lip synching. She just has back up vocals for when she gets to the chorus because it's a pretty fast song. You can tell she's singing live when she says "Here New York!!" and when she transitions to her guitar you can clearly not hear her voice because she's away from the microphone. Also Gaga is trained classically on the piano. Gaga is a musical prodigy. She learned to play the piano by ear at age four, and wrote her very first song soon afterwards. She also wrote her first complete piano ballad at age thirteen, and started performing at fourteen. Do your research before you judge her because she's accomplished so many things, while you're behind a computer screen judging someone who could care less about your opinion. I'm just letting you know. Stop the drama, start the music.
ARTPOP was her most colorful, creative and funny era, she did whatever the hell she wanted and she was happy with it, you can tell by hiw she looks in this performance. love her.

Lady GaGa is actually one of the few mainstream musicians that actually sounds very much like how she does on a recording for CD or digital audio. Rare talent.

When you watch an artist sing live and then you realize how good he or she is compared to the studio version of the song you know you are watching a great performer. Now, when you are watching to an artist on RU-vid and you actually are smiling while watching he or she performing with such enthusiasm and enjoyment and also even better than the studio version then you know she is one of the greatest artist of our time. Pure Talent.......................
You know in all honesty I can't really understand how people criticize GaGa for being untalented, etc. To me she never was meant to be a "mainstream" artist, I mean look at her! Her voice, image, and everything isn't going to appeal to stupid ignorant hicks or the shallow gay stans for Miley, Katy, etc. People labeling her as a flop needs to realize something, there are many other artists in the world who don't sell millions of copies but are regarded as true talent. If sales equal talent, then shame on YOU for believing this stupid logic. GaGa and other unique artists are in their own league. Chart positions, sales, and downloads; irrelevant. You keep doing what you do best GaGa.

Doesn't make any sense since she was super mainstream with Just Dance and Poker Face. Furthermore, her music isn't artsy and conceptual like Björk or Kate Bush who didn't need to appeal to mainstream charts but are successful nevertheless. Gaga goes on all these commercial TV shows, watched by the mainstream public, why oh why when she's not doing so well (wouldn't call it flopping but her career is not going up either) is she not 'mainstream' anymore all of a sudden? She is. Gaga wants to be seen, she wants to be on the mainstream charts, she wants to sell well. They made DWUW a single because it appealed to the masses for pete's sake! LMs in the past couldn't stop bragging about her sales, now it doesn't matter anymore since BTW and Artpop are mediocre, I had to delete half the friggin' albums because it's filler and her team can't promote the right singles anymore since BTW ( like where is the DWUW video???). At least if Artpop was critically successful sales wouldn't matter, most female artists can't seem to sell above 350k anyway.
ApartmentViews People criticize her because she talks too much about art without delivering anything new, real or conceptual (Artpop is all over the place without a real message). The fact that she is on video mixing up Boticelli's painting Birth of Venus and the sculpture Venus de Milo just cements that opinion. If she would just admit she likes pop music without inflating her own talent or vision then people would buy her stuff again. Madonna supported gays and got naked and it didn't hurt her career. Spears got half-naked and had sex before marriage and people still bought her albums. Cyrus made a fool of herself and she still outsold Gaga. Beyoncé is singing about sex and writhing around half naked showing her booty: 500k bishes. Gaga's music just isn't so good anymore while all the other ladies did have great albums and songs. Gaga will be fine if she stops with her 'art' foolishness. Deliver or shut up Gaga. Agree on the dressing strangely, people are over it. It's not new anymore.
***** I'm a Madonna fan (more than a Gaga fan) and I am not afraid to reply to other fans that I think Gaga is more talented in playing music and singing. I have no problems saying that Madonna's last 2 albums were shit (still bought them though) and that she follows the flow instead of doing something different. So in general, I'm not a delusional sheep. Comprende? Gaga's quality has gone down and she needs hits and sales, therefore, she's a mainstream artist. If you release a single based on the reaction of the public and change your whole strategy for releasing singles, then it means her team wants hits. She's a costly performer, she needs to make money. Kate Bush et. al. never pumped a lot of money in clothing or tours but rather invested in making solid albums. Gaga doesn't have that luxury because she wants to persist in the costumes and theatrics. That's her choice but when she doesn't sell well, her fans try to dismiss this fact. Tony Perry I can't take any comment serious that tries to argue that Gaga is is not mainstream. Underground means not commercialized furthermore, all of her albums talk about fame and she has mentioned a million times how she wanted to be famous and how she would act like she famous to make 'the lie truth'. again not a trait of underground music. Underground is about authenticity, an intimate relationship with the (small) audience and freedom (so definitely not willing to bind itself to producers and labels!) it's a social commentary. Her worst moment was being dropped by her previous record label so Gaga is just as commercial as Perry et. al., she's just packaged as a freak which might seem more relatable but is a blatant lie when you know she's a victimized rich kid who looked like a plain jane and made plain music before fame hit her. And actually Spears' and Perry's backgrounds were never hidden, it's their sexuality that was packaged. Gaga lied about the most basic things.
This specific performance actually blew my (rather cynical) dad away! He never realized the talent Lady Gaga possesses, and to be honest, I'd never noticed it entirely. This was truly a great performance.
I think this is the happiest Gaga performance OMG, I love everything on it; The sound, the outfits, colors, Gaga smile, the personality of the instrumentalists, BTW that purple guy rocks with his moves LOL.
She looks cute and beautiful in this performance, her face towards the end of the clip has something like a pure veracity and benevolence feeling within itself. She emanates goodness.
I wasnt a fan of this woman- at first..sadly, I judged her-thinking she was just another auto tuned, talentless, produced to make money "artist". Man was I sadly mistaken!!!!! She's just the opposite- probably one of the few TRUE ARTISTS of this time period. One of the few that when she's "live", she actually IS LIVE. She is absolutely an amazing performer. Gaga was never forgotten nor is her career going down. ARTPOP is who she truly is and the music she truly wanted to make. She's happy with This album and her fans are too. Also it was already certified Platinum in Canada after its first week.
Well I'm a fan and I'm not as happy as I could be with this album, I think I only really like a total of 3 songs which is odd considering I listen to her stuff all the way through and adore it.

She can really sing live, I have seen her perform live and its amazing. Congrats to this wonderful women for not using auto tune unlike other pop stars.

Gaga said ARTPOP I is really for fans and is experimental, it's probably her most personal and loved album yet. ARTPOP II, as she said, is more commercial. I loved the 1st ARTPOP so I know the 2nd will slay. And besides, we're here to support her... ♥

After 5 years of loving Gaga, she never disappointed me. Everything that she has done so far is amazing. Sadly, LittleMonsters still make negative comments about her. C'mon! Everything about her is inspiring. Her thousands different faces, looks, and outfits did not disappoint me. Hopefully, another special Littlemonster agrees with me.
For some reason, some people are focusing on the negative. They ask me "what didn't you like about this performance" I answer, how about WHAT I LIKED ABOUT THIS PERFORMANCE? .....EVERYTHING!
She's definitely singing live. The only backing tracks are the long "tonight", "cus I'm I'm I'm" and the end, and she's singing along with those too. Instead can we talk about how shitty her mic was and how it wouldn't pick up her voice from more than 4 inches away? And how the mic stand was far too low.
Easily my favorite song on the album and her at the piano is by far the best live performance you will ever hear I want her to do a whole album of beautiful songs with just her and the piano it would be her best but It won't happen
One thing you gotta give her major credit for, her live performances rival any other mainstream pop female artist. She dances, sings, plays instruments, and all very well and live. Thats not something others can do. So for that I give her much props and respect as an artist.
You don't have to like Lady Gaga or her music but you gotta give it to her. She has an amazing voice and she's brave enough to use it. Singing live, rewriting many songs for acoustic takes and doing different styles. That's how you prove that you can sing!
You've got it backwards. She writes her songs at the piano and then arranges and produces them for albums. There's a quote from her somewhere to the effect of "if a song can't stand on its own with just piano and voice then it isn't good, or a successful song, or worth writing a full production for." Or something like that.

I feel the same. I had heard of Lady Gaga, this messiah character. I never got into her music until I saw her perform Applause at the MTV awards recently. Then I got into all her previous music and was blown away at how talented and amazing she is as a performer. Gypsy on SNL was phenomenal.

absolutely. I feel like Artpop (imo actually a solid album tho with hardly hit stuff like Poker Face, Bad Romance..) should have definitely spawned two songs as singles with vids - DWYW and Gypsy. somehow the first one became a vid-less single and the second not even that.
+Karel Zich 1st single - Applause - has video 2nd single - Do What U Want - has video, never officially released, though parts are findable. 3rd single - G.U.Y. - has 2 videos - long and short. Just clearing that up.
