Omigod, I just realized that his name is exactly the lawful neutral side of the Fae because of this comment! I totally missed the spelling of Seelie before! 0.0 -squee-
@@joelvaldovinos1883 His character's name is Loquatius Seelie. Loquatius is based on the word "loquacious" meaning very talkative, and in folklore the Seelie Court is one of 2 courts fae are divided into
It's so bittersweet, and Aabria & Sam play it so perfectly. His life is all about time and attention, and that's fair - it's what he does, it's who he is. Her life is about constant work, and that's also fair - the entire functioning of the floating city ultimately rests on her shoulders. They have perfect chemistry, but there's no way they could make a life together, at least not for very long. Not without one of them fundamentally changing who they are. This actually happens to marriages in the real world, which is why it feels so real.
I have to imagine the characters are at least a little bit inspired by Sam and his real wife. There's a similar clash of lifestyles but real sam obviously handles it much better.
@@RachelTension I've seen the "Between the Sheets" interviews for both of them, so yeah. He is married to a badass lady who's at the top of her field, and he obviously thrives on attention. But I think it's cranked way lower in real life. Maybe he's thought about what it would be like if their differences were far more intense than they are in the real world, and applied that here. But the way those characters push each others' buttons, and things like the shoulder-touch bardic inspiration, it's like you can see the chemistry. They *feel* each other. It's just that who they are and who they want to be makes them being together impossible.
SPOILERS He's also still (basically) immortal, we discover later. And she's just not. Far as he knows, Quay has only so many centuries with her as she's alive, and he 100% wants to maximize every moment of it. It's fascinating.
These two are the perfect drama characters. They're powerful. They're exes. They can't stand each other, or can they? _They keep reminders of the good times in their relationship!_
One could easily think it's Loquatius' fault that their marriage failed because of him being so flirty and pretentious, but after the second episode I can guess the reason their marriage failed is because Laerryn focuses more on what she can get than what she already has and Loquatius likes to live the moment. Laerryn lives and works on a floating city full of wonders that goes around the world, but instead of enjoying that she has overworked herself to reach the goal of entering other planes. Necessity and curiosity are what pushes people to explore, but what is motivating Laerryn and Patia is just pride and greed.
You could also say that the experiment Laeryn did that had the mishap of Evandrin disappearing, could have triggered the dissolution of their marriage. Quay was trying to cover-up for Laeryn that it all cascaded from there.
I know everyone is screaming about the foreshadowing but the moment when he's talking about where they got married he goes to touch where his ring used to sit hits me SO HARD idk why but it just
Laerryn’s wide-eyed intensity is maybe the best character beat I’ve seen on this show before, and you portrayed it perfectly! “The ones from aria?” is flawless
2:58 - _"You can go back to hating me."_ Whenever a character makes that kind of deal, and then the response is _"I don't hate you."_ *Oooooooh!* Just- *OOOOOOOHHHH!!!* That pulls the heartstrings quite well. Like, he gave up on winning her over and just wants to have a time of peace just for a moment, and then her finding out that all this time apart he believes that she hates him. just- *_OOOOOOOOHHHHHH!!!_* That's good. That hits the good spot. That good dynamic. Bittersweet relationships hit that really good spot.
Excuse you, we didn't need those foreshadowing flashes towards the end there. T.T Just let them have the sweet moment... But for serious, gorgeous art. Amazingly done. Love Quay's little blushies when she said he always looks beautiful.
Thank you! I am so excited to watch a couple that could possibly make up, with the knowledge that they will likely die together. Just. Love the dynamic.
The fact that we know they fail, but we are cheering for some kind of win, some glimmer of something good... and likelihood that nothing good will happen on the eve of the apocalypse is so heart breaking
Technically speaking, she did - Quay getting injured, then Laerryn lashing out happened at the end of episode 3. Right down to Quay looking at her in fear.
Coming back to this after actually watching the episode is one hell of a trip, especially given that the expressions nearly perfectly match the general vibes of the conversation. It's incredible. And of course the classic Lin Knife Twist. I love it
Spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen it yet. Brennan: "But there's one story of a fairy who stumbled into this world and fell in love" Me: *bawling my fucking eyes out*
@@Linzer_Art would love to see your take on the "grains of sand" scene, that felt pretty cinematic too. Oh and of course, the crazy 15-minute opening, but I suspect that would take an entire animation studio to properly do.
THE PETALS THE PETALS SCRIBING EVERYTHING UHG masterful you're a genius love this moment love your drawing, love love love the shot of quay touching his empty ring finger.
I think I stopped breathing partway through watching, because I was gasping for air when it ended. Your interpretations of these characters, of this moment... literally took my breath away.
Hey, it's been a moment! Great animatic, brilliant choice of scene and excellent storyboards, I really loved the paper bag breathing in the background.
Thank you! Tried to have fun with their expressions since they are such talented and expressive actors, and sneak in using space a little for storytelling.
This was so good! This was an amazing moment that you animated beautifully! I loved all your choices with their appearances, facial expressions, motion, and the little flashes at the end of them at the end of this story were incredibly! Thank you so much for making this!
AAAHHHHHH!!!! How are you this good! How is their relation ship so good and interesting to follow in only two episodes?!? *Your honour I luf them, I luf them, I will die for them...*
I know you made this between episodes 1 and 2, but watching it now I can't help but feel like you're flashing forward to the end of episode 3 and (spoilers) Loquatius getting stabbed by the Tree of Names and Laerryn casting Blight
It really IS too much to hope for that the reason we never heard of Avalir is because Laerryn managed to teleport it away and their society survived somewhere else, right? I mean, the sickness shouldn't spread unless there's a return trip, right?
I really get the feeling that, even if the Ring of Brass somehow manage to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, the most they'll manage is a pyrrhic victory.
Here is a thing, there is no mention of Avalir in current times, but there is a place called S-avalir wood, and Im pretty sure that Matt confirmed that one of the flying cities crashlanded there
@@mikonyx7712 WAIT. ISN'T THAT WHERE THEY BURRIED MOLLY?! Cause that would make a LOT of sense! Thanks! I can't believe I didn't make that comparison on my own...
