Today we are back with ‪@KetchupTownVEVO‬ hanging out in Nairobi Kenya. We will be discussing many things as it relates to the diaspora. One of the questions we want to uncover: Is LAGOS a better place for African Americans to return to or NAIROBI KENYA?
Also we will discuss how important relationships are in AFRICA.

In Africa Kenyans are true pan africanists, they give credit where its due no matter where you come from. They call a spoon a spoon not a spade it doesn't matter whether you are Kenyan or not.

This Nigerian dude should look for a way to do afrobeats so that he can be big in Nigeria and Africa. As a Nigerian myself, I have never heard his name before until I saw him on this show. Nigerians don’t listen to dancehall no more. Afrobeats is our thing. We listened to dancehall in the 90s but since the 2000s we groove mainly to our afrobeats. Nice podcast.

Things that kenya has over Nigeria (1) infrastructure (2) electricity (3) internet and it's penetration
@daniaalfred1868
@daniaalfred1868 9 месяцев назад
I think you have never been to Nigeria. The Internet coverage is the same as Nigeria's. I think that of Nigeria is even better from experience in both locations. Fiber exists in both nations, and 5G too. When you say infrastructure, which one exactly ? Don't judge with Lagos alone. Head to Jos, Abuja, Calabar, Akwa Ibom e.t.c in Nigeria before u compare. There are cheaper BRT buses in Lagos, Blue Rail now. Nigeria is very diverse. The only thing that's accurate on your list is Electricity.

In places like Kirinyaga, or Malava, the intenet is very poor. There's no fiber or wifi even.

The Nigerian guy said 1 very important fact about Kenya. The politics in Kenya is more mature than most African countries, Kenya enjoyed stability in the 70s and 80s so when the transition to democracy come in the 90s it was centered on giving people better services and it has gradually developed to a point where the people dont take any BS from government. Politicians are kept on their toes at all times and many even end up in jail. Kenya is far from perfect but at least our voices are heard.

As a Nigerian, I love my country in a "protective sense" so much that I'd strongly advise against visiting. Reason is simple: Till we get our acts right, I'd choose turning people away over having to endure one more negative review and allied complaints that is almost guaranteed to follow from such visits. In retrospect, the "stress-filled" terrain has turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

A lot depends on who you are and where you originate. For example, the East and Horn African diaspora, including Ethiopians, Rwandans, Somalis, and Kenyans themselves, is already part of modern day Kenya's tribal ethnic history so when we visit or repatriate to our ancestral part of Africa we already have our communities who are established and in many cases extremely successful.. In similar ways, we behave passively and reservedly which is a stark contract to African AMericans and Nigerians. Visiting Nairobi as an African American or Nigerian can be an enjoyable experience, but whether you will truly be accepted in a region of Nilotic and Cushitic Africa is another matter, especially longterm and behind closes doors.. There is also a growing dislike of Nigerians in espeecially Nairobi and Kigali, I saw it latest yesterday in Kilimani where allegedly 5 Nigerian guys had attacked a Kenyan woman sunday morning in one of the flats they ran from the bill and created chaos.

Nigeria can be frustrating because they have abandoned ethics but there are private places where they make things work depending on your pocket. Europeans, Indians and Chinese live there. It's surely not Eldorado and I do agree that East African countries are somewhat better organised. There is a new sheriff in town at the helms of affairs in Nigeria. He is better educated and experienced. We pray he does well for Nigeria.

"they" have not abandoned ethics, what an idiotic thing to state. There are issues with corruption particularly at the top, to be sure but tens of millions of hard-working ethical people going about their business. Nigeria has more than "private hideouts" where we make things work. Literally, constant power is 80% of our problem. It would bring back all the Nigerian diaspora that are running successful businesses in other countries, despite Nigeria having one of the best markets in Africa
@leeayi243

@@fistandpen2505 I meant private places. Yes ethics has gone out the window in Nigeria. Professionalism does not exist there. Many are uneducated and badly trained. Management skills is zero. All the government institutions are basically useless. Government and some private hospitals are just death traps. Driving on the roads is absolutely insane, you don't need to know any rules, no need for driving school. The roads are full of pot holes. So many dirty places. No town planning . Basically it's jagajaga. Although there are decent areas with fairly adequate services in every state in the country where only the rich can afford to live. There is a new sheriff in town though, the new President, he is more educated that all recent presidents since after those who got us independence. He is better prepared, I pray he does well for Nigeria.

I have to say Rap/Hip-Hop has always been big heavy g grown up in Nairobi. I remember when ‘PAC died and people crying that Saturday a.m in class. I think the fact that most hip hop acts shun Africa has a lot to do with this. Look @ how many big acts even go to Africa and if they do it’s usually Jo’burg. Barry White came to Nairobi years ago and had to add shows coz of the demand. I grew up loving pac, BiG & Snoop. I think most hiphop folk should realize that they leave a lot of $$ on the table running to Europe and never to Africa.
