Thanks to all who helped film this! Snag the deluxe edition of their album “Good Grief” which has a studio recording of this song: smarturl.it/LuciusGG_DLX More pics from this #liveatlagunitas show here: www.LAGUNITAS.com/live
I am tired of all the idiots - at almost all live music these days - who feel the need to shout "WOOOOO!" at every pause in a performance. Why does your enthusiasm trump my focus on the music?
I love Lucius's take on this tune, a haunting reminder of how vital Dave Davies was in the Kinks mystique. And they perform it so well, enough to bring Dave to tears. I came back to it tonight after last hearing it years ago, while enjoying a Lagunitas brew and wondered if Dave ever heard it, such a rediscovered oddity from the obscure Lola vs Powerman LP, a track I hope lives forever. This vid is a gem, guaranteed to change your mood. I doubt that many in that crowd were born when Dave Davies recorded 'Strangers', yet the audience is captivated by Lucius and their magical performance down in Petaluma CA.
G DiMo nice try?? As I was trying to do what? Maybe what you say is true. I’ve never been to a Kinks show. All I was doing was reporting what I’d heard about his reaction to Lucius’ version. No agenda of deceit
It's my opinion that they were supposed to sing the first verse in unison, but accidentally sang the first line in harmony; they immediately change back to unison. That's why they're exchanging smiles and knowing glances at the beginning. I think harmony just comes so easy for them that they forgot :)
I’m a huge Kinks Ray Davis fan. I always thought it was funny that my favorite song of theirs would be a song written by Dave. I don’t make that choice lightly. Good cover love the their vibe.
that is pretty much one of the most simple but best, fresh, awesome GOOD VIBE song /performance I heard in age... and these girls voices together combines perfectly, like WTF WOW.
"And if I feel tomorrow like I feel today, we'll take what we want and give the rest away". Hell of a line. The Kinks are a criminally underrated band. Good to see a deep cut done justice.
WHOA...Ray Davies has asked me to tell you he enthusiastically approves this cover. Said Ray,: "After hearing THIS, I very well might never play this song again because I couldn't do it better."
mergerist You had me until "more talented". Awesome cover and I hope they play it opening for the Decemberists in Berkeley tomorrow. But please, Dave more talented than Ray? I love the Kinks and both of the brothers, but that's just absurd. But I'll give you better looking for sure!
I always knew that if you gave the cast of The Simple Life long enough, they would reinvent themselves and teach young ppl about the Kinks. Everyone laughed at me.
I just hope Dave Davies got wind of this and heard it. For he and his brother Ray have managed to touch a lot of people with their songs, many who were not even born when the tunes were released.
Beautiful! Harmony is wonderful. Challenge is wonderful. The bringing me back to India via this certain song since Darjeeling is really hard. Miss you Miss India!!!
I am watching 'Big Sky' the TV series and they played this song, 'Strangers' at the end, I fell in love with it. I never hear this song by the, 'The Kinks', Lucius you are both phenomenal singers, you are now on my play list.
here from 2022, i saw them perform this at hardly strictly in sf, and they brought out marcus mumford and it was amazing. as they all had individual mics, they were really able to belt some of their high notes
