It was a very small dam, maybe ten feet tall, basically an earthen dam reinforced with wood and stone, holding back a six foot deep reservoir. It's in such a remote location, that it was only inspected every ten years or so, because its failure was considered such a low hazard.

The same thing happened at Lake Delton in Wisconsin Dells. The dam broke taking houses near the damn for a ride down the Wisconsin River. Lake Delton was completely empty except for a small stream flowing down the middle of it. The bottom was packed with decades of silt. I walked out on it and got stuck waist deep in the muck. Was lucky to crawl out of it, but covered head to toe looking and smelling like I took a dip in a septic tank. I wasn’t the only one though. Saw several others crawling too.

People commenting about how crappy the dam is / was and they fail to notice the dam hasn’t failed yet. The electric company dropped the ball here in my opinion. When heavy rains come dam operators need to open the flood gates to release the excess water. This dam held and the excess water had to go somewhere so it went around the dam. The people that lost structures should sue or be compensated for the power companies ignorance. This didn’t have to happen at all.

It wasn't more than a YEAR {chuckling}, the small "brook" decided to MOVE BACK. . .to it's original place where it had been for hundreds of years. :) :) :) BOY! Was the COUNTY Father's "M A D"! ! !
