Thursday 19th March 2015 and day four of myself and Dave's penultimate trip to the Lake District with regards to completing our 214 Wainwright Lakeland Summits Challenge. With the weather being so good we decided to carry on without a day off and complete the remaining Loweswater Fells which would give us a flexible timetable when we return in April to complete the challenge. So three fells were the order of the day with Bill Birkett's Almanac noted 'High Nook' as a bonus. Burnbank Fell, Blake Fell (Highest of the Group) and Gavel Fell the order of the day in the Western fells giving us fantastic views of all the fells around Loweswater and beyond. Today the beautiful scenery is enhanced further by fantastic clear weather.
Over the past 8 years the Fat Boys have been helping a man achieve his dream of completing the 214 'Wainwrights' listed in his Pictorial Guides to the Lake District. Dave Galloway from Southend-on-Sea in Essex and now age 75 only just recovered from surgery following two bouts of Cancer. That coupled with other obstacles often put in his way, such as chronic cramps, blisters and awful crippling gout have not deterred him from making sure he makes the most of being given a second crack at life.
On this site we have documented in video every fell that Dave has conquered. The completion of his dream is near, watch it unfold on this RU-vid site. Hope you enjoy this next small part of his challenge.
Music is by Gandalf with 'Over the Hills, across the field' followed by 2 David Helpling tracks 'Emeralds' and 'Worlds'.
Enjoy and thanks for viewing. Graham

You had such glorious weather and that tiny bit of snow on Grasmoor was super. I visited the Loweswater area last year for the first time and I fell in love with the place. I also missed Holme Force unfortunately.

There is always another trip and as we always say at FBOT... 'The Fells are not going anywhere' and neither is Holme Force. Thank you for watching our videos it is much appreciated x

Hello Graham, I really enjoy your videos. I was up Burnbank Fell two weeks ago and the conditions you found were a lot better than what I encountered as the Clouds moved in and I couldn't see any direction to go in. I made the right one though thanks to the trusty map. You missed a treat not going to Sharp Knott with an excellent Shelter.

Hi Graham. Enjoyed the video and to have a look at your way up. We tried to go up from the west side and the route we tried has been fenced off by a naughty farmer. We then abandoned it and went to Lowe fell in stead. As we had not done our research we went straight up the flank. Scary and we wild camped on Low Fell, just off the summit. Lovely nights camp. The walk back to the car the next day was far easier and not as challenging. We will be posting our adventure in the next few days. Hope next time you wRe here we can catch up with you guys for a cheeky pint 😊👍. Hope Dave is well. ATB. Sue and Steve

Suzanne that would be great I will look at the video. Dave is good and looking forward to the Cumbria Way in May. Colin and I are up from 21st April to support a team member finish the Wainwrights. Dave and I return again in June to do the Howgills and a FBOT 2nd meet up has been planned for September. Would be great to meet you guys x

Another fantastic video, I can imagine there's a much effort needed to create the videos as there is to walk the fells. I hope you get as much enjoyment making them as I do watching! Just wanted to also add that you have inspired me to get walking again and I'm now 25 in to my Wainwright challenge. Best wishes and good health to you and Dave.

***** Thanks Martin, yes mate though I say it so myself a lot of effort does go into the videos. Its a dry subject to give special effects too so we stick to the same format in hope that it helps fellow walkers have a crack at the same fells. Not professional masterpieces but hopefully enjoyable to watch and informative.

I'm learning that a lot of the Western Fells seem to have long walks in and out before the climbs start. Never the less they do seem a great set of hills to walk on !

Hi Graham. I did this walk two days ago and was disappointed not to find Dave's ENT fell anywhere. Followed up with Fellbarrow and Low Fell. 9 to go! See you out there.
