Hi SnowManD, I’ll give you my perspective and hopefully others will add more perspectives. I have not skied at Aspen, but have spent time skiing about 20 other Colorado resorts including (Vail, Steamboat, Breckenridge, Copper, Telluride, Durango, Etc.). To me, the two primary things I like about Lake Louise and Sunshine vs anywhere I’ve skied in the US is being right in the rugged peaks of the Canadian Rockies, and almost no crowds in comparison to US resorts. Lake Louise doesn’t really have a town - It’s 40 minutes north of Banff. Banff is an amazing town with plenty of bars, restaurants, culture, etc. it takes about 20 minutes to get from Banff to Sunshine village. Both Lake Louise and Sunshine have double black terrain, as well as a good mix of intermediate and expert terrain.
When the cold snaps come to western Canada it is always colder and lasts longer in Alberta vs B.C. It can get brutal cold in Banff in mid winter so it is best skied in March and April. They even offer a Spring Season Pass.
We camped at Banff Tunnel Mountain II and Lake Louise RV parks. Both places have power at the RV site, warm shower houses and bathrooms, fresh water and dump stations available.
Going to Banff in 2 weeks with my kids during their spring break. Thank you for this wonderful video that gives me some visual effect that pictures and maps alone can not give me. We have Ikon passes, so we are visit the other two ski resorts, too.
You are welcome. I’m hopeful these videos will help people really get a feel for the resorts and help them enjoy the first few days more so than having to figure it out. I also used the Ikon as well as the Mountain Collective. Have a great time!
You should have spent most of the Day on goats eye fast chair best gldes and fewer flats if you book it its 8 mins up on the chair and 2 and a 1/2 minutes down for 1500 ft of vertical😊
Super excited for you! Lake Louise and Sunshine Village in Banff are two of the most scenic ski resorts I’ve found in North America! Have a great time! Sincerely, James Duke
I have not used the bus service as I’m always in my private vehicle, but I’ve seen the free buses dropping people off at both ski resorts from Banff. Here are the links to the free shuttle service: www.skibanff.com/getting_here ; www.skilouise.com/getting-here/ Hope this information helps! Sincerely, James
I cant belive this place is still in operation. Worst mountain next to Kananaskis! The front side is at best a skating rink, the back side can be hit or miss!
And Sunshine? Just got of it today. What do you think of Marmot Basin, Jasper? From where I live Lake Louise and Marmot Ski Resorts are both the same distance far away: 4h 30 minutes.
