The Lake Superior Loch Ness, fact or fiction? What's interesting to know is that there are actual eyewitness accounts of this mysterious monster living in lake superior.
The Native tribes of the area spoke in their legends of a giant and ferocious serpent inhabiting the lake that they called Mishipishu, meaning “underwater panther." Sightings go back as far as the 17th century. Watch the video and you can decide whether you believe something like this could possibly exist!

I've seen it. This is no "fish story". In 2112 I was a UH-60L Blackhawk helicopter Crew Chief returning from a two ship training flight along the Lake Superior shoreline. I was in the left side CC/Gunner's seat along with another CC on the right side and 2 pilots when we made our turn around at the Split Rock Lighthouse from St. Paul's Holman Field. We were heading south and inbound to Duluth Air Force Base for a lunch stop and refuel. At 110 kts and 1600 ft we were approx. 400 meters from the shore just west of Hwy 61. Scanning my sector of airspace, from the 11 O'clock to 6 O'clock, I looked down at the water and thought how beautiful blue, calm and clear it was. As we flew by a small bay right at the Crow Creek outlet just north of Encampment Island I saw what I can only describe (as God is my witness) a large, light grey, Plesiosaur on the surface about 100 meters from shore moving east to deeper water I'd say at about 5 kts due to the light wake it created. The water was like glass and it looked like only the head was actually breaching the surface. The thing was a shock to say the least and it was no sturgeon. A long snake-like neck, oval but streamlined body and a tail equally as long as the neck with 4 diamond shaped, paddle-like fins/flippers used for propulsion. The tail waved back and forth slowly (3-4 seconds side to side) gliding it through the water effortlessly. This animal was approx. 130-150ft in length as I used a house on the point of the bay for scale given the house is about 50' in length. Yes, it was 3x the length of the house from tip to tip. I shouted "Holy shit!" and my crew could hear me though I had not pressed the ICS (Intercommunications system) button attached to my flight vest. The interior of a 'hawk is quite loud while in flight. I pressed the ICS button and shouted "Look in that bay down there!" "9 O'clock!" I said. "There's something in the water!" I quickly changed radio freqs' to call directly the left side Crew Chief in our trailing acft. They were only 200 feet or so away and at our 7 O'clock position so I thought , maybe. I said "Matt, look in the water, in that bay!" Unfortunately, that time of day, about 1115 -1130a the sun was at such an angle it's reflection obscured the bay just as he looked out. See, he was "inside" at the time doing a second fuel consumption check and at that speed by the time the band of sunlight on the water passed over the bay, he wouldn't have been able to see it. I requested our pilot, a good friend, to bring it around to get another shot at it or maybe even a pic but he had to decline it as he had already called Duluth AFB to request our strait in approach. I was extremely disappointed to say the least that we couldn't just do a quick 360 and resume our approach but he's in command. I'm telling ya people, there's something more than fish, rocks and sunken ships in that lake. Loch Ness, Lake Champlain? Yeah, they exist. SGT E.R.H, 2/147th Avn (Air Assault) Crew Chief, U.S. Army

Erik, you saw a huge turtle in your particular sighting. In Lake Champlain the Sandra Mansi photo is of a huge turtle. Nessie, Ogopogo and others are eels.

0:11 my husband and I seen lake Superiors pressie just about 3 miles off the shore of Paradise, Michigan, October 5, 2023. We were enjoying our morning coffee and seen something in the water, jokingly we said it's the loch ness monster. We started watching and observing a little more and as much as it was fascinating at the same time we seen a little more than we wanted.😊. We seen her snake like humps and her long neck going in and out of the water while it was just doing its thing. It was amazing

There are two different things people are seeing, one is a whale sized eel and the other is a huge turtle. Giant snakes are the eels and plesiosaurs are the turtles.
