We spent 3 days and 3 nights in Copacabana, Bolivia in October 2023.
Copacabana is a lakeside border town just 15 minutes from the Peru/Bolivia border. It's on the Bolivian side of Lake Titicaca which is the highest navigable body of water in the world at 3812 meters above sea level (12507 feet).
Since it's a small town with not too much to do, many travelers only spend a night here while going to/from Peru and the rest of Bolivia. We had been traveling at a fast pace for about a month, so taking 3 nights to relax in the small town was perfect for us.
We traveled here with the bus company Peru/Bolivia Hop. It's comfortable, safe and the guides are helpful and informative.
The border crossing was relatively simple. Americans need to purchase a tourist visa ($160) but this can be done on site. This information is accurate as of October 2023, but may change. Europeans did not need a tourist visa at this time, they only had to show their passport.
Copacabana is a popular stop for travelers and is a touristy town. Isla del Sol is a lovely half day trip by boat across Lake Titicaca.
Trucha (fresh trout from the lake) is on many menus here and comes in a variety of preparations. Restaurants in town will have it, but for the best experience I recommend trying it at a lakefront kiosco.
