My taste in fish has changed as I’ve gotten older. I started with large fish like oscars and pacu when first keeping fish. Then cichlids like angels and such. While I still keep angels (My favorite fish) and probably always will since they live such a long time in my experience, I’ve recently dedicated my largest tank (A 6ft long 90 gallon I built myself) to these beautiful and entertaining little rasboras and Pygmy corys. It’s funny how my fish room has grown over the years but the fish I choose to keep has shrank 😝. I really enjoy you videos. Thanks for sharing

Absolutely love these little guys!! Had 5 innitialy and lost one due to in-experience of new tank syndrome. Still have 4 remaining and they are easily the hardiest fish I've owned! Their schooling behaviour is amazing to watch. Completely agree that they are a better choice than the Harlequin's. Great spotlight, look forward to more! 👍👍

I have really started to get into rasboras. I have a few scissor tails, in with my giant danio's. They all school together. The rasboras chill just blow the giant danio's. It so awesome to watch. My tank is a planted tank it's kind of low tech. I do use some ferts, and I use co2tablets. I also only have t4 full spectrum lights and my plants are so lush and green. My java moss loves it, and so i do. I started out with a golf ball size and now I have nice sized mats in each of my 17 tanks.

I set up my 10g tank 5 weeks ago, gradually adding rasbora hets (not 100% if hengeli or espei... some are more orange coloured than others), up to 6. My fist one, Carl, the most orange, was chasing the others a lot, and I was wondering if he is being bossy or horny or cranky, and if I should return him or get some more orange-coloured buddies for him, if it was a question of culture clash between hengelis and espeis. and tonight as I was gazing into the tank, my eye caught some movement between the leaves... I have fry!!! at least two. possibly more. they are so tiny! I hope they will be able to grow up. They hang out near the bottom, I don't think the adults would eat them, there are plenty of hiding places ready (for my future shrimps) I am just worried if they will find enough food between the plants and rocks. I am so excited! and still a bit worried about Carl. he seems to spend a lot of time alone on the lighter side of the tank while the others prefer the darker side around the filter. maybe he has ptsd because he spent 1-2 weeks alone when I was getting the cycling going with him. anyway, I have fry, so something is working right, yay!

Hi Rachel, thank you for this video on the Spei, I love this guys. I'm looking for a small and good directional schooling type of fish for my 20 gal Long tank, I would like to have as large of a school as I can in such tank but some of the smaller fish don't seem to be very good at schooling (ie chili rasboras or celestial pearl danios), so I was wondering how many of these Espei I could keep in a 20 gal Long tank. I would appreciate your thoughts. or what other fish would you suggest. Thanks in advance

+Rachel O'leary Interesting. I have a common and a bristle-nose (male). Both have decent personality, way more than I thought they would have. Especially at feeding time. They seem to have learned to recognized the algae wafer bag. But then it sometimes takes a bit for them find the wafer even if it floats right to them. Do plecos have good or bad eye sight? I can't figure it out.

Ive got a heavily planted 20G tank with about 8 to 10 kuhli loaches in it (have yet to buy them). Would a shoal of these be a good addition? And if so, how many would be suitable? The kuhlis have a low bioload, and they usually hide under stuff, so they shouldn't be too much trouble for the rasboras I think?

Love this video. Thank you so much for the info. I'm curious: you say the lambchop breeds by adhering eggs to the underside of broad leaves. Is this based on actual observation, or the assumption that all Trigonostigma breed alike? I mean: why assume it breeds like heteromorpha, when every other rasbora is an egg-scatterer? I ask because I'm getting mixed reports from the field. ;-)
@RachelOLeary
@RachelOLeary 7 лет назад
+Chas I have seen the eggs under leaves :)
@polyacanthus
@polyacanthus 7 лет назад
Yes, the female flips upside down under a leaf and the male wraps around her to fertilize the eggs as she lays them. She will lay up to 6 or 8 at a time. I have bred many espei. The four species of Trigonostigma are grouped together because of this breeding behavior.

@spinjector 3 года назад
@@RachelOLeary what you said about how their colors pop out with a background of green plants is spot-on. I put them on the same list of beautiful fish as others like Blue Rams. Also, aside from their beauty, I value them because they're great mid-water schoolers, and they fill that open space in the middle of the tank, between the bottom plants like cryptocorynes and the surface-skimming fish above above like danios. But then you probably already know this and I'm just preaching to the choir. :)
