I made a very similar bearing seating tool years ago at work . So much better than trying to bash them in. Good stuff.

A pain sometimes but well worth doing the correct way.

Would get a better feel with front wheel removed . Plus you need the tinyeat amount of room around the bearings try taking one ball out. Cheers

I'm so happy with the Rt kits that I have them in both my scooters 😎 Avanti ex box ST on one and chiselspeed cst3 on the other. Cst3 feels more lively but is it? 🤔 That is a video subject coming out soon 😎

And did you feel any improvements with the loose bearing set up , would you do it again ?

Yes. I've done it on a few now. It's night and day.

Hi Rob, nice work! So you bought 1or 2 new races, 2 lock nuts and 2 x bearing sets? No need for the new sealed bearing kits,especially with the fitting issues? ;)
@kickbackgarage
@kickbackgarage 3 года назад
Sort of. 2 sets of bearings, mb top race which I didn't fit. Mb upper screw race and lock ring but the cups are casa.
@bertiedoonerwind8061
@bertiedoonerwind8061 3 года назад
@@kickbackgarage hey thanks, so you replaced the lower and upper race due to wear or in case of wear on the originals as well as making the fork set up safer?
@bertiedoonerwind8061
@bertiedoonerwind8061 3 года назад
@@kickbackgarage If the races have little wear or mileage/kmage they should be okay, but do you recommend new locking nuts?
@kickbackgarage
@kickbackgarage 3 года назад
Yes, correct. 😎
@kickbackgarage
@kickbackgarage 3 года назад
They last a long time but it's always good practice to swap them out during a restoration. You will feel it straight away. It feels terrible.

I have never seen that done before, I must have led a sheltered life. Loose balls seems to be the way to go.

Dearest rob, would you make a disc brake deceleration comparison with the bgm vs standard drum, put two bikes against each other. That would be really good to see. I might even buy another t shirt if you do:).
@kickbackgarage
@kickbackgarage 3 года назад
Unfortunately, I don't have a scooter with a standard drum.
@StoneEagle68

Interesting that in the scooter world , it is preferred to use loose balls, while in the bicycling world, sealed bearings are the way to go!
@kickbackgarage
@kickbackgarage 3 года назад
Only because with loose bearings, you get more in there as they are basically under dimensioned even compared to cycling. When I started racing mtb in the early nineties, loose bearings were standard, even in the bottom bracket but they were high maintenance because of poor seals against water and grime. Road going scooters see less punishment than mountain bikes these days.

Defo a ball ache on loose balls but worth the effort involved 😉
