Oh my goodness the editing is PERFECT.

You always pick the best scenes to show a character’s arc, you did it with Wei Wuxian and now Lan wangji 🥺 so well done... watching the show it took me a while to really appreciate the slow change in Lan wangji’s character since it wasn’t very abrupt like Wei Wuxian’s, but once I understood I realized how fucking incredible he is. Having lived his whole life based on strict principles of right and wrong ? Accepting that he will live a life alone because of that? And then Wei Wuxian enters, challenging all of his beliefs. Then once he starts going down what Lan wangji considers to be a “dark path” his first instinct is to correct him and save him the only way he knows how- the music he learns from gusu and even wanting to bring him back to the cloud recess. It’s almost as if the cloud recess is the only place he knows to be safe, having trusted the principles since birth. All of this, Only to realize at the last moment that the one thing wei Wuxian needed most was someone to stand by his side... and then once he gets that second chance he never doubts him again, going against everything he knows in order to have complete love and faith in Wei Wuxian. "The feeling of sticking to the single-log bridge until it's dark is indeed not bad." THIS line always kills me- and it’s used perfectly in your video. And can we take a moment to appreciate how Wuxian warns Wangji that once he walks out that door his reputation will be ruined- USING NEARLY THE SAME LINES THAT LAN WANGJI USED TO TRY AND STOP WEI WUXIAN FROM LEAVING IN THE RAIN SCENE god I love parallels they really tryna make us cry Sorry for how long this comment is your video just made me feel ALOT Thank you for portraying his character so well.

The best character sketch I've seen created to date. You've created such a beautiful montage tracking Lan Wangji's journey. When I see it from your perspective, I understand how Wei Wuxian served as a mirror for Lan Wanji to see himself, his actions, his belief systems, his conditioning. And then the boy grows into a man going from thinking that right and wrong were concepts set in the principles of Lan, principles he was determined to live and die by to wanting to decode and understand for himself what was right and wrong for him. And then go all-in willing to lose it all to defend what and who he believes is right and is being scapegoated. As much as this story is about Lan Wangji's love for Wei Wuxian, it's also about a man learning to listen to and act on his own conscience willing to go against everyone and everything. This came through so well in how expertly you've handled this ending the video with this scene. Thank you for creating and sharing this.

Personally, I've always related with Lan Wangji a lot. As someone who grew up in a strict environment, I used to be a stick in the mud just like him. Always following rules and always trying to force them on others. As I got older and met my best friend, I grew to be a lot calmer and overall a better person. I realized that not all of the things my family taught me felt right, according to my own personal morals. I think that's such a big part of his character too, constantly struggling with choosing what he was taught versus what he's learned by himself. Then, after WWX died, Lan Wangji really had an epiphany and realized he couldn't live without him. WWX taught him so many things, like how to enjoy his life, how to love, and how there is no set right or wrong for everybody. Right and wrong is subjective, the definition isn't the same for everyone.

Wei Wuxian was so misunderstood and Lan Zhan was one of the few people who understood him and saw past what other people were saying about him

Another one! Oh my god. This one just hits even harder than your WWX one. I don't know if it's because of how beautiful the music gets around 2:51 and just gets even better as we reach the part of Lan Wangji's regret and then to the scenes you put of them together with the vocals in the background.. But Wow. The way you portrayed Wangji's journey in this video is beautiful. And goodness, as many comments have said, you really are an incredible editor! I agree that if you aren't pursuing already a career in video editing then I encourage you to. From what I've seen you'd make such fine trailers and stories. What a journey... and SUCH a beautiful edit! ❤️ I think what really gets to me about this story (and what you capture perfectly here) is how they manage to give us both a heartwrenching tragedy AND a happy ending with the same characters. We see Lan Wangji try *so hard* to hold Wei Wuxian together, only to watch him fall apart. Then 16yrs later he gets another chance, goes feral on the entire cultivation world, and SUCCEEDS in doing the one thing he's regretted having failed at for so many years... standing with & protecting/saving his soulmate. ❤️

Ahhh, I really loved your video. I was searching for a Lan Zhan edit that described more of his character's development as a person, as I was only able to find more videos regarding his love for Wei Wuxian alone. Although the way he was raised got in the way of multiple things, being one of them showing extreme displays of emotions, for example, it was so interesting, meaningful and powerful to see him starting to question the only thing he knew his whole life. I think we all kind of meet a Wei Wuxian person at some point in our lives, that show us different sides or perspectives of the world and thus previous beliefs or opinions take new turns inside of us. His journey was absolutely heart breaking, but still so beautiful and intensely lived. All the love, trust, loyalty and persistence he had for the one he cared for was painfully good to watch (and read, in the novel's case) because that's what I wish for in any relationship I build, be it with friends or more. Amazing work here, seriously💖

Honestly I think as both male leads, both of them have very tragic stories and face heartbreaking and hard to make decisions which can change their entire life (which is natural for lead roles). But most people only focus on Wei Wuxie, and how poor thing he is, and then say how Lan wangji protects him and so on. But they don't see that Lan Wangji also is very pitiful, and equally worth treasuring, as he had to carry the stress and pressure of his reputation and role as the second son of the Lan Family, and his uncle pressuring him not to walk the same path as his dad, and 16 years ago, he didn't know the behind back story of Wei Wuxian, so he didn't know what was going on & started doubting what was wrong and right. Also most worst of all, Wei Wuxie pushing him away, not trusting Lan Wangji's faith and trust towards him (16 years later). This is why I like Lan Wangji much more than Wei wuxie (of course many other reasons, just too many to state here). (PS no offence, personal opinion, pls don't scold me!)

the pure cinematic quality of your character tributes is out of this world! I can't believe they don't have more views! In my personal opinion, they are probably the best cql fmvs out there, so smooth and impactful, not too flashy yet so powerful! My tear ducts and I can't get enough of them!

I love this because it shows that Wei Wuxian, who was everything opposite to what Lan Zhan was and how he'd been brought up, made Lan Zhan, rightfully, question what his clan and he himself, were doing. It's also kind of funny that even though Wei Wuxian seems like the type of man who would know whom he was interested in. In almost every adaptation of this story, Lan Zhan is shown to have known he was in love with Wei Wuxian almost right from the start and had just accepted it whereas it took Wei Wuxian much much longer to fully understand why he was so drawn to this man who was so different to himself. I feel like this FMV shows this as well and I just love it so much. The editing is wonderful and I know I'm gushing but it's just perfect and I was a puddle of tears by the end of it. Love it.

I'm in tears, I LOVE this!!! I especially loved everything that builds up starting from 4:04 to 4:44, then the second-long reprieve before the music really takes off in 4:46 and just doesn't stop; the editing from that point on was sooooo spot-on and was just the perfect payoff for the rest of the video!!! It so suited the clips, which really matched the ferocity of his devotion with the ferocity of the music. And then the soaring vocals at 5:02 taking us straight into that gorgeous montage of Wangxian shots -- uugghhh, it's flawless and makes me tear up, I just keep replaying it. AND OF COURSE THAT LAST QUOTE WITH THOSE SHOTS!!! "Thank you for nothing else but a clear conscience" -- I didn't think you could capture Lan Zhan's love for Wei Ying in just one sentence but that was really IT! Character studies that trace a whole journey are really my favorite fanvids ever and you really nailed it!! Thanks so so much for making this video!!!

Lan Zhan! Oh, Lan Zhan! What a beautiful, intricate character you are! I read this interesting character analysis of Lan Wang Ji which said that the reason he doesn’t look people in the eye most of the time (his eyes are mostly downcast or averted and he looks out of the corners - unless he's looking at WY 😊) is a sign of his self-awareness and inherent modesty. It was like he simply accepted the fact that he was extraordinary and did not deem it necessary to throw it out there for people to see (if he looked people in the eye, they would have to look away as that was the kind of aura he exuded). His clan members would have been in awe of him growing up and he had a reputation for being cold and distant due to his controlled expressions and body language - averting his eyes was probably a way for him to let them be comfortable in his presence, in as much as he allowed it hahaha. He would have come across as being hesitant and non-confrontational due to this but people soon realised that when he did raise his eyes, he meant business.

lan wangji's character will always hold a special place in my heart. he's a man with less words and yet so loud with his actions. the untamed perfectly showed his growth throughout not only his love for weiying but also for himself as he embody his own principles as different circumstances take place. wang yibo really, really give justice to every detail of his character and this edit artfully showcases his pov. it's been 4 years since the untamed was aired and even as many years went by, i always think back of this story and feels like wangxian was a beautiful memory that actually existed.

He lost his mother and father, like Wei Ying and he lost Wei Ying and didn’t see him for 16 years (novel and anime I believe it’s around 13 years, correct me if I’m wrong) but he never left Wei Ying’s side, he was with Wei Ying even when he was the Yiling patriarch, at first he didn’t believe in Wei Ying but then he believed in him and protected him and loved him regardless of his villainous and dark ways.

again, your edits are absolutely gorgeous, the sound and video quality is outstanding. thank you for that. the way video about lwj is for the most part... a wangxian video.. just tells so much about him as a person. and i dont mean it in a wrong way, i mean it in the good way. in wwx's video there was only partially wangxian because wwx has so many other relationships that define him. and while lwj also has his relationship with xichen in question, it hardly defines him as much as his relationship to wwx (poor xichen but its true - anyway did you think about doing xichen video haha?). LWJ just has such a huge heart and its 100% full of wwx... the biggest step in his character arc is abandoning the rules and the values that were the most important thing to him before for wwx's sake BUT ALSO because his love for wwx changed how he views the world. and i think thats rly beautiful about him. ANYWAY IM RAMBLING i love this so much, i totaly cried and will absolutely rewatch it bunch of times because this kinda editing is a fucking art... you just get this show so well... its a pleasure to see it

Lan Zhan x Wei Ying ❤️❤️ Lan Zhan and Wei Ying fell for each other at first sight. Lan Zhan's love is unconditional, he loved, cared, protected and believed in him for whoever he was whether right or wrong, sane or insane, good or bad and was ready to heal, and mend for him for whoever he might become. Lan Zhan wanted and took him to Gusu to live together safely. In the end, they are together ❤️

This is possibly off topic a bit, but I’m a Carat, and every time I see Yibo as Lan Zhan I DESPERATELY want to see some fanart of Xu Minghao as Lan Zhan. Yibo and Minghao just look so similar, and I don’t know how good Minghao is at acting, but I want to see it so bad!
