Did he forget he had freeze breath and wind breath ? He could have easily froze the object b4 it exploded or could have stepped in front of the fire since he’s fire proof or use to super speed to rescue Lois and escape

What on Earth are you talking about? First of all, he's not in love with her; they're friends, and she was his first crush. Secondly, Superman isn't big on killing people (something I actually hate about him). And thirdly, the attacker looks like his son. He's not going to melt off the guy's head.
