Old Trafford lost it's Test match status for a few years until the ground was redeveloped. Change had to happen for it to get international cricket back at the venue.
Absolutely superb footage, although it would have been even better had John Gwynne been commentating; as I recall he covered this game on the radio for BBC Lancashire. To say he was quite excited by the end would be something of an understatement. Hegg would have been quite an asset in the World T20 at the moment...
I've still got Gwynne's commentary of this game on an old cassette. Radio Lancashire or Radio Merseyside did a highlights package of the game and he went mental when the winning runs were hit.
Why doesn't the Yorkshire region set up a football team like the Spanish regions do? In Spain Catalonia, and the Basques have football teams which play pseudo international games. For instance Catalonia played Brazil in 2004 and lost 5-2. The Catalonians have played on many occasions in the last 10 years against teams ranging from Costa Rica to Argentina. We could havce the Scotland B team play Yorkshire. I would love that. Or even Southern Scotland against the Lancashire region. The Basques also have a international team that play games against national sides. It would great fun to see which English region is the best at producing players, and which Scottish or Welsh region is best at produing players. You could also have London, West Midlands, Cornwall, Lancashire, North East of England playing aswell. I would love to see Scotland having some regional games with perhaps Central Scotland v Aberdeenshire, or the Lothian region V a Welsh region such as South Wales. It is really enjoyed in Spain so why not try it over the UK? Peace.
Lancashire ( old Lancashire as defined in cricket ) would be unstoppable. The talent in Liverpool and Manchester would be impossible to beat. Lancashire could field a full premier league team apart from goalkeeper. London as a whole would be competitive but as they be split between Surrey and Middlesex. Lancashire would be far too good
