Winter 2020, year 4 of the restoration of Avro Lancaster NX611 'Just Jane' to airworthy condition. Due to the coronavirus the planned restoration work has had to be reduced following a loss of funds. However we are making good use of our time in preparation for the restoration work in year 5.

Just visited the wreckage of NF-920 "Easy Elsie" that took part in the bombing of the Tirpitz in a local swamp in the far North of Sweden. So seeing this video here is highly interesting after the puzzle of bits and pieces at the crash site. Actually able to identify several details now. Thank you :-)

My favourite plane of all time. The Dambusters is the best war film ever made - so good in fact that George Lucas based the film Star Wars on this where Luke had to fire 2 torpedoes into the small vent whilst flying down the Death Stars trench. The sound of this machine is a sound of pure power and one of the best sounds in the world. I used to have a job near the original factory in Blackpool where these were made (Blackpool Retail Park). Great work guys on restoring which will be only the 3rd airworthy Lancaster in the world and should be worth a small fortune when completed i.e., Spitfires are selling for 1 million each! A beautiful aircraft and a marvel of British engineering in a time of crisis. Keep going!!

Just noticed Gerbs, known him since 1973, even then he would put his hands in his pockets as soon as he stopped working. I am so looking forward to getting up there as soon as the restrictions end. The work you guys are doing on the Lanc is something else.

Any chance that we will see this LANC flying anytime soon ? , I would' like to see all 3 LANC"S in formation over Windsor along with a Spitfire & Mosquito escort seeing how they too are making a come back , ....it's important that we don't forget them .

During the restoration of the rear fuselage will you be refitting the radar pod or leaving it off to bring the Lancaster to its original specification ?
@JJNX611

It will be refitted as that is the original specification for Lancaster post 1943

I am fascinated by this machine and was very disturbed to note that the Lanc was developed in conjunction with Bomber command to make what was the Avro Manchester lemon into the Lancaster which was done to great effect and had the full support of Arthur Harris . That said , the targets were mainly civilian innocent people , and the task of the RAF was to "soften up" the resolve of the German people , unlike the American Air force who only targeted military installations and targets (notwithstanding Hiroshima). This Aeroplane was intended to be a sinister shape in the skies above enemy lines , jam packed full of death and destruction. Many questioned Hariss's decision to kill as many innocent people and destroy their homes but that was what happened . Should we now heap glory on to the intended use of the Lancaster by restoring as many as is possible ? Today, bombing innocent people is not tolerated by UK or American governments so I do look upon this plane as something of a bittersweet part of the War machine . Now I know where there is a good section of one of the Nuclear bomb's used in Japan and wondered if the Lancaster Restorers would possibly like to know the whereabouts of the bomb casing so that it can be restored to full working order . , yup, thats right , every rivet , every piece of its internals so that it can be demonstrated at say a Buckingham palace fly over or a car boot sale event , maybe a steam fair rally to give people the real experience of watching a Nuclear bomb fall from the sky

Just think about what you just said and if you would still say that if there were no Lancasters ? You can not blame the "Machines" for what mankind has done in the past. Your examples are very 1 sided and don't tell the complete story making it very biased. During WW2 , the population of both Germany and Japan were part of the War Industrial Machine. Both had small industry mixed in w/Residential areas, a cottage industry.
