I took my dad on the Avro Lancaster called 'Just Jane', which is based at the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre. 'Just Jane' is the only privately owned Lancaster bomber in the world, and is owned by two brothers and kept as a tribute to their elder brother who served on Lancasters. The aircraft does not hold an airworthyness certificate, but was restored to taxiing condition a few years ago. It is the last of three Lancasters that can move under their own power, the other two being the 'City Of Lincoln', which is owned by the RAF and which flies at dozens of event and airshows throughout the summer season as part of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and another flying aircraft in Canada. The other remaining Lancaster bombers throught the world (there are about 15 in total) are static exhibits in museums. The Lincolnshire Avitation Heritage Centre is at East Kirkby in Lincolnshire and is presented as a period World War Two airfield complete with Control Tower, NAAFI canteen, chapel, and the main hangar with exhibits varying from the remnants of downed aircraft found in Lincolnshire fields, along with their histories and what happened to the crews, other period vehicles, and models and memorabilia (such as radios, teleprinters, flight log books and ration tins) from the war years.
