Jan Ullrich waited for Lance, proving his sportsmanship. (You do not attack the yellow when the rider is down.) Awesome display of character at that moment
Ullrich was doped, and still couldn’t escape lance. It was a race of doping and a bike race. And no one could look away, it was too exciting to miss the tour back then.
So he doped. I forgive him. I'm riding my bicycle because of Lance. I'll never win any races, but I'll stay in love with cycling for the rest of my life, thanks to Lance.
As a clean ex racer since before lance it was crazy the difference between the ability of him and his peers, he had talent but now looking back its crazy. That said everyone had to juice up in some way to be in with a chance of a contract or ride. If you were not on any "Specai"l training programme the DS just would not approve race entry. So many great riders got nowhere near. It leaves me feeling quite uncomfortable. Lance and his crew were just much better at what they were doing compared to others, but it's always been that way in bike racing
It’s crazy to think that this took place in 2003….20 years ago! I’m so glad to have been around to see this live on tv, especially from around the 03:14 to 03:43 mark 👍🏼💯🔥
I know he dopped, but so did everyone else, you cant take away he was quality, f**k the journalists, he made it entertainment watching, and where he'd been in life he had the mindset of whats worse can happen
Yes, he doped. Unfortunately many riders in the Peloton did back then. I'm not excusing Armstrong. I'm not condoning his actions. But you have to admire the way he rode his bike. That ascent was incredible to watch.
He still smashed them despite all the other top riders doing similar PED protocols…. He had the rage to win… that was the difference. You can knock his actions, but you can never knock that he was not the ultimate competitor.
@@barksnbo3625 lol, you realise that’s all that brainwashing schools , advertisement and sport has done to you. Know one gives a fuck about the trophies it all in the head.
Lance Doped before every stage, other riders do not. A we do not know what type of doping use Lance and other riders. If they use the same thing at the same time as Lance then you Can say he beat them.
@@441milachik the basis is not about what types or how much or the frequency of their doping. it is based on their "Vo2 Max" a measurement of how their body efficiently takes in oxygen. ALL of the top half of the peloton is suspiciously on the ABSOLUTE EXACT limit of 80 mL/kg/min of Vo2 max. the average natural athlete has 60-70 mL/kg/min of Vo2 max.
@@441milachik what a fucked idiot are you lance was simply the best even know every cyclist is doped , the run 3 time faster then lance and now its normal you think whahahhahaha
Because the Tour powers did not want him to be eliminated so they played his game. Same as the UCI currently does with Pogacar, Vinggegaard, Evenepoel etc. etc. etc.
Respect for Lance… ,,who sits in office”…will never understand how victories are given…..Alex Zull once said…We all tried different things (doping). It was a time of experiments, but we always knew WHO is WHO . I’m glad… I saw with my own eyes how Lance made history…Thanks to him.
Don’t care what anyone says. Doped or not (as all the top guys always are in the sport), Lance still won all those races and is the greatest cyclist in history.
Considering everyone was doping, I reckon lance was made a scrap goat of the uci. They knew every rider was using some type of performance enhancer. Love him or hate him. He was a master on the bike.
Wonder what happened to the now 30-year-old kid whose cloth tangled on Armstrong's bike, basically creating one of the most legendary sport moments. What a story to tell.
Lance was awesome,a truly great cyclist,it wasn't epo that made him great he was a talented cyclist Cheers for the many great races Lance, they were a joy watch
@@babacool1630 Lol that is what cheaters want you to believe. Yes the guys podiuming weren't clean and they are the ones you always listen and hence think everyone wasn't clean.
So why was he so shit before he started cheating then? His best mountain stage finish was 39th. gullible fools. also you see him activate his electric motor just after the crash to catch back up. Which is why he then had to attack as it was a one hit activation. The cheating prick was crap without cheating.
The internet reads minds. I was just rewatching 2021 Paris-Roubaix and trying to remember the one race that was as spectacular than that. I remembered it was a Lance race in the Pyrenees. This is it! You be spooky internet!
No matter what it takes iron will to ride up a mountain like lance did. Drugs didn’t pedal lance did. Almost 70percent of riders in the tour tested pos at one time or another during this time including ullrich. Euros hated an American winning their race. They dope today. Cmon you think those guys setting records this week weren’t using? Fooling yourself.
No importa cuanto tiempo pase, otro como el no va a volver a existir, todos sus detractores podrán tomar el doble de químicos y jamás van a lograr lo que él hizo, everyone can tasks twice of what he took and never achieve the half of what he did !!! Grande Lance!!!
What a golden era for cycling. The boys just doped out of their gourd, pushing the limits of the human body. We need to get back to full fledged doping in all professional sports. We need the best of the best at their best.
Impressive to see how long Lance his attacks lasted untill all the way to the top of Luz Ardiden Mountain finish. Lance is performing his long standing high cadance climbing intervalls even at higher rpm than Jan Ullrich was doing the climb in low cadance seated climb position Allthough rivals back in 2003. Nowadays Lance & Jan actually are good friends . They still meet each other 20 years later in America. Everybody nowadays know they both used epo back then. Though that doping use is very bad & without doubt the wrong way to victory. It may only have increased the performance with an extra 5 % ; the other 95% was still hard work and many hours & lots of km's of intense cycling to defend the Yellow Jersey 3 weeks long during the Tour de France 7 years in a row from 1999 - 2006. Make Love , not War.
lololol. He activated his electric motor. You see him reach back and do it. Like he did for most attacks. You lot are still SO gullible. No wonder he got away with it for so long.
Armstrong had that Michael Jordan mentality. Took things personally and made competitors pay the price. In this case, Lance made poor Jan pay the price for some random girl waving around a feed bag.
These images bring back great memories! I was riding the Pyrenees myself at that time with a group form camp site to camp site. I watched this at some camp site's cafe. A few days before I rode up Luz Ardiden myself with the late ex-Tour de France rider Jos van der Vleuten, may he rest in peace. I remember all the barriers already in place near the top. We were a perfect match that day. He even arranged for water the old-fashioned way on top! Where I had no clue where he got the water from when he came around with two plastic wine canisters with water. Can't believe that is already more than 20 years ago!
Thise guys are all crazy. The cardio vascular punishment that they put themselves through is just staggering. Armstrong is the best ever at enduring the torture of this sport.
Whatever you think of him, he changed the way teams approach the long tours. Work for one rider and win. So many teams have done it since. Also amazing how the year's he won have not been given to another rider! There is still no actual proof
Who cares if they were all doping...it allowed them to fully express the competitive human spirit with minimal physical limitations. Body and ego united, it produced some of the most exciting racing we'll ever see.
@@aiglenoir81 considering that in that particular peloton most top riders were having similar PED usage, he would've been a top dog with the whole peloton clean
At the time Armstrong was the best cyclist in the world, because at that time 90% of the peloton were doped and still Armstrong beat them showing that he was the best with and without doping.
A friend of mine was in that race, was on his team. The thing people should understand is that the reason he was busted wasn’t bc he was doping, but bc he was an a-hole that no one could stand.
I agree, but others argue. What you can't argue is that he had the single greatest testicle in sports history. You see, if you were to divide Bill Russel's 11 championships by 2, for each testicle, you get 5.5 per testicle. Michael Jordan would have 3 per testicle. Divide Tom Brady's SB wins by 2, and you get whatever ... so Lance Armstrong has the most world championships per testicle of any athlete ever.
No he is not the greatest TDF winner. He won using drugs? Yes, Others before and after him won using drugs? Yes. But no former or current TDF winner ever 'hibernated' during the racing calendar JUST to compete in the TDF! That was hiding! Besides he never won TDF and ANOTHER grand tour in the same year!
No doubt he was the best prepared rider at each Tour he participated in. He went to win. No messing about. That includes epo. Off the bike he was a jerk.
On his bike to, he was no sportsman, he was a mafioso, and it was not only epo he used, he used lots of cortico-steroids to. Bullying everybody on his way, also his ‘friends’, journalist, UCI officials, that’s why he could mess up bicycle sports for a long time. Terror all the way up and everywhere.
Lance always beat his rivals in the peloton. Not just because of epo but because he was also the best prepared. The peloton just lets pogacar ride away sometimes, like in this year stage 8 I think where he put 5 minutes on all his opponents for yellow jersey. But he was also cracked by the guy from jumbo this year and by roglic last year
Greatest bicycle racer of all time…the french and the bicycle administration people went after Lance because he was smarter, trained harder, and could have won many more tour de france victories if left alone…
