Its a pretty extensive restoration, Those are never cheap, especially with cars that you cant really get parts for easily. But there is just something about doing custom body work to keep an old car on the road or get it back on the road like it was new. Way more worth the money than running out to buy the newest piece of eye candy.
@lebojay
@lebojay 2 года назад
I wouldn’t mind knowing what it costs. My wild guess is around US$50-60k for the bodywork resto; mechanicals would be on top of that. Just my guess. Maybe $100k all-in? What do you think?

@@lebojay a good paint job costs about 20-30k, Project Binky's paint job was a 30k paint job, but that is a real fancy paint job especially for a classic mini. Yes, I agree entirely. These men are artisans, they know metal and how it behaves. They don’t need drawings or CAD. They are intimately attuned to metal, probably at atomic level. A fair assessment. The problem with any skill of this type is that it takes years to master, requiring constant stroking to maintain and improve it. Most importantly it doesn't deliver any rewards within two weeks and can't compete with the smartphone calling for attention since it was put down three minutes ago.

That steel tailgate is an absolute work of art. So glad Adrian was able to fabricate it, rather than use fibreglass. You could tell by Adrian's face in earlier episodes, he wasn't at all happy at the idea of that. Going to the extreme efforts they have to hand build and restore the car so far, you can perfectly understand why. Much as I love the Jaguar restoration, this Zagato really is on another level all together. An Italian masterpiece. Thank you so much for going to such extraordinary lengths.
