Hi Bernie, The install actually went quite well, but it's certainly a huge change from "the old days" where you could just unbolt the bumper and bolt on the bullbar in its place! Next on the list is a winch install, which I thought I'd do independently from the bullbar due to the number of people who buy the two separately.
This was so helpful - thank you! Inspired me buy the same winch bar for my 200 and DIY install. Drilling the pinning bolts was a challenge and a right angle chuck attachment for the drill is required for the 2015+ install - happy with the result and savings vs. workshop install. Cheers 🍻
@@jacobpears6844 I was able to drill 2 of the 4 pinning bolts (1 per side) that way, however needed the right angle attachment for the last 2 - which had to be tackled from further back and underneath the bar. I suspect the 2015+ bar in my model is slightly different than shown in this step by step.
You did a really neat job on that install , l would love to fit my own as well but very hard doing anything by yourself , l hope the guys at arb are as attentive as you are .. get my one fitted in a week .
I have concerns about the strength of the frame on the car. There has been cases of fatigue/cracks in and behind the front bracket on the frame of the car after putting a bullbar and winch on it. Does this seem to hold up on your car? It is a fairly heavy assembly after all. I am convinced Toyota did not design the front brackets with winching forces or a 80+kg assembly in mind. The 200 series do come with a factory winch option in some markeds. The OEM winch is mounted on a spesific crossmember behind the factory bumper. Cars without the OEM winch does not have this crossmember. Toyota partnumber 38110-60290 (60291 for 2011 onwards) for those interested. It's quite pricey... Really enjoy your videos. +pål aukan The only vehicles I've heard about with cracks were using the factory bullbar, which was later recalled by Toyota for that reason. The ARB bar includes special clevis nuts which sit well back in the chassis to distribute the load. +Australian Images Thank you for the clarification! I noticed the clevis nut you put in on this install. I guess this is where the boffins at ARB come in to play. Together with the doformation zones and airbag compability, this clevis nut seems to make the difference;-D Thanks again. I can now continue my dream of the 200.This was actually a real showstopper for me. The 200 has a hefty pricetag of about $250000 Aud here in Norway,due to the tax level disfavours heavy,powerful cars. We also only get the sahara over here. But the early second hand cars are starting to come down to about half the orginal price. Still more than a normal working mans year salary. My 80 series will have to do for now;-D
Hey Bernie thanks for your vid I have a 2014 vx and wish to fit an arb summit bar also. I am able to get a great deal on a new 7th / 2015 bar but I’ve been told it’s not compatible as they had some upgrades. What are your thoughts?

Thanks for the video, I'm sure you had some "choice" words to say during the install. I know I did installing a TJM bar on my Prado 150. I prefer the TJM bullbar as it sits closer to the vehicle than the ARB, but each to their own. Great video as usual, whats next? Bernie
Great video. I recently purchased & fitted an ARB summit bulbar for a 200 series Landcrusier. Had some issues fitting the bar. The clevis nut would not fit into the rectangular hole in the chassis (had to be opened up to suit the nut), also the M12 flange nuts to fit the bar to the mounting bracket were missing (if the original nut from the crash beam/mount brackets were to be used they are a different pitch. I spent a bit of time setting the 935mm measurement on the mount flange brackets as per step 61 only to find the bar would not fit as the measurement between the brackets on the bar were 930mm. Lastly the fog lights wouldn’t fit (the lights in the fitting procedure does not look like anything that is on my car). I went to the store to query the fitting of the fog lights after looking up on his computer & was told that I need a separate kit to fit them I also picked up the nuts. ARB need to update their bars to fit the vehicles.
Ahhh. The 200's front end did change slightly between 2011 and 1012 (plus the major change in 2016), so I guess the ARB bullbar design must have changed as well.
If you look at the way the Ironman bar is mounted, all that weight is simply bolted on to the small flat plate on the front of the chassis. It's not designed for so much weight. The ARB bar includes clevis nuts and 200mm bolts on each side that transfer the weight about 150mm back down the chassis rail. Far superior design and eliminates the problem suffered by the Ironman.
Australian Images yes, I noticed that in the fitment of your kit, and also that ironman have modified their design to be similar to the ARB one. Makes you wonder about the level of their R&D though. You get what you pay for.
Sorry, I haven't installed either yet. The roof rack is reasonably easy. It bolts into the hidden nuts on the roof which are accessed by removing the small plastic cover strips. For air lockers, I'd suggest you have them installed professionally.
To be honest, I haven't had a close look at the engineering behind it, so can't give you an educated answer. I prefer the look of the ARB bar, and since I'd been very happy with them in the past, went with ARB again. TJM do generally produce quality stuff though.
