The 1970's was obsessed with the paranormal - UFO's, Bigfoot, ESP, Parallel Dimensions - you name it! This was perfectly captured by the Sid & Marty Krofft psychedelic children's series The Land of the Lost! Take a deep dive into the freaky 70's!

One of my all time favorites. This show made my little brain think about our universe and reality.

You only see 3 Sleestaks in any camera shot ever on the show. I think they only had 3 costumes and Enik's gold one. I loved the background music and synthesizer sci-fi sound effects they used on the show. 😃

Glad you acknowledged the Verne, Burroughs and Doyle books as the inspirations for the show

Land of the Lost was truly a gem from the 1970s. I'd be born after it aired, but was still young enough to remember it being on syndication in the early 80s. The practical effects and visuals were truly stunning for its time, considering the show's budget, and this makes me even more excited to revisit Land of the Lost, when the DVDs I bought off Amazon arrive in a few weeks.

Glad you mentioned In Search Of... That was another 1970s favorite of mine. And all the paranormal dtuff. Do you recall any of the various UFO and related magazines then. UFO Report, Argosy UFO, Ideals' UFO Mag, Beyond Reality, etc. etc.?

Sid and Marty Krofft were most famous for their children's shows that are more light-hearted, comical, and downright psychedelic. With this show, the Krofft brothers took a more serious approach with Land of the Lost. However, this show was conceived by Alan Foshko and David Gerrold. For a 1970s Saturday morning kids' show, it had a deep lore and a truly intriguing story. It was pretty ambitious for its time. The show is not without its cheese factor, especially the theme song and special effects. But what do you expect? It was the 1970s.

I’m watching them again…, and yes, I saw them on TV in the 70’s. My mom even made me a Pylon out of a refrigerator box with a table full of crystals. Great memories…, the 70’s were awesome. Is there a list of the episodes in order. Seems the episodes as listed on the Tubi app aren’t in the right order as the show references things that have not happened yet. Maybe the shows were originally aired this way.

I have all three seasons on DVD. My and my little sister never missed Land Of the LOST on Saturday mornings. Which is when I usually throw in one of the DVDs. The weird light creature trapped in the LotL was my favorite. I think they did two with him. Human emotion was very uncomfortable for the alien.

Land of the Lost did return as a summer replacement filler show on NBC in early 1978 and as a summer replacement filler show in the summers of 1985 for Pryor's Place and again in 1987 on CBS for CBS Storybreak.

Land of the Lost is light on the sci and heavy on the fi. It is practically sci-fantasy. So much so that it nearly adds another dimension of definition to the phrase "cult classic". 🤔

Whoops. This is not my Land of the Lost. This was my parent's Land of the Lost. I mistakenly thought this was about the early 90s version. I can still sing its theme song to this day. :P

The story was derived from a true story and the mountains were home to the sleestics that had crystals of energy found in the mountains.
