I got mine (1994 D1) for $2000 U.S. It was so cheap because the dealer thought there was something wrong because he couldn't get it OUT of 4WD. I didn't have the heart to tell him that it's always in 4WD. I chuckled all the way home...

Loved your rig, gave some inspiration for my D2. I was wondering how you mounted your drawer to the back? And did you use server rails for the slides? Sweet DIY on that.
@wilkes982
@wilkes982 5 лет назад
@@JackKetcham the frame that the draw mounts to is bolted to the floor in 4 places with some custom brackets that go through factory nuts in the floor. The drawer slides are 100kg rated 1m drawer slides and the second slide for the gas stove is a roller bearing style set of slides also 100 kg rated. hope you build something nice for your d2

3.6 powered wranglers are amazing, especially Rubicons with the 4:1 transfer case and D44s with front and rear E lockers stock. And the E disconnect sway bars. And the magic traction control. And more flex than any other 4WD you can buy.

A nice, well thought out camper on a budget. And it's a Disco! Awesome build, built for purpose, not for showing off. And a very cool owner, as well. That's exactly what I have in mind right now and I'm pretty sure I will use some of his ideas for my build as well.

I think that this was the most enjoyable modification video I have seen yet. I do not drive a Disco or even a wagon but to see a set up that is as well thought out and not owned by a chequebook modifier was great. Bloody well done on your rig, I wish I had the skill to do what you have done.

More of these Videos Ronny!!!! This is 100% what its all about That kid is Smart, Ingenious and Resourceful.... and Green! This is how we all started and to this day, they are always the best mods! Anyone can buy off the shelf generic crap and bolt it and be like everyone else, boring. This guy reminds me of a young Luke from Drifta! In fact, they both arrived at the same idea for a pull out kitchen. He has solved all his own problems, and done with off cuts and ability! And having as much fun as someone in a $100K+ V8 Cruiser Good on ya fella, i'm far more impressed by this than a Patriot Camper This is the guy i'd wanna have a beer with at camp, not the wanker with big cheque book

I have a Disco 1, same colour, same motor. great off road but they really are a car you either love or hate. the quirky cooling system can be a pain, the lack of power and TINY boot space when you have the rear seats in place is an issue. My 40L Engel hits the back seat and the tailgate door., it literally JUST fits. that's how shallow the boot is. I know the Disco 2 has a longer cargo area but even then they don't really have a lot of interior space. I think the comfort level inside is better than some 4X4's even 10 years newer and c'mon, what other 4X4 has heated wing mirrors when you switch on the rear window demister? the 300TDi can be a sluggish old girl which when a second battery is installed with no snorkel can heat soak pretty bad making getting the rig moving on a 35 degree day a double clutch away from the lights affair. Dry seals in the injector pump seems to be the new plague hitting these trucks and I have had to have mine repaired as a result of just leaking everywhere. I do love the sound of the 300TDi. Mine has done 380,000 K's and starts first go every time. I see he fitted an EGT gauge, but PLEASE fit a water lever sensor in the header tank. The temp sensor and water pump are up high meaning if you lose a few liters out of its 11 litre capacity water flow stops, the water temperature sensor actually goes down and you'll destroy the motor. its really common and a water lever alarm on the header tank warns you of water loss well before it creates a bigger issue. Yes they generally leak from the underside but I say that's just rust protection. I love the look of them, the commanding seat position and the rattle from the motor. Good rig that's a proven off-road weapon even in stock form.

Hi Ronny, I don't see any on-screen selection box areas for links; that you point to at the end of the video. ? I really appreciate that you include older DYS setups in these episodas. Hope the cold's all better now, and that it's not transferred to other family & friends. This was quite interesting, as it shows the diversity of what & how to modify a 4x4, depending on one's interests. Really like the amount of thought that went into this vehicle's setup, and the 'lateral thinking' of how-to etcs.

I had a Discovery 1 300tdi commercial for 6 years and the only after-market modifications were a larger inter-cooler, removal of the EGR valve, wheel spacers and the turbo adjusted to compliment the larger inter-cooler and apart from a sudden clutch failure while cruising down the motorway, a heater matrix springing a leak and a water pump seal blowing, the Discovery proved to be reliable, very economical and straight forward to repair. It was also very practicable, fun to drive and good off-road too!
