In this video we look at replacing the door lock on our project Land Rover Discovery 4 - this is idea if you have lost your keys or want to change to the new type keyfob which needs the later key.
Hi Simon. I love the style of your videos. I always feel I’m on a journey of discovery (pun intended) with you as you proceed through a particular job. I’m amazed that the glass topped table in the garage hasn’t been broken yet.
Yes its kind of our style... half a clue what we are doing and a give it a go attitude... we get there in the end most of the time. I know some people in a rush would rather a much quicker to the point video but at least this way people see the whole process.
Great video - but the best place for the new key number sticker is to stick it in the booklet / service booklet that comes with the vehicle, so you can always find it.
Brilliant videos Simon, I am totally addicted. But, two suggestions: 1. Buy yourself one of those shaver gizmos to remove the pilling bobbles from your jumpers. 2. Get rid of that feckin glass-topped table - it is driving me crazy (metal on wood = good, metal on glass = bad).
I love how this channel has become a knitware fashion and care channel ! The glass topped table is really good as you can clearly see the items on it.... but it must be on borrowed time....
Hello! This video is really going to help me because my LR4 doesn’t have an emergency key. Unfortunately at some point someone backed the screw all the way out and it’s missing so the lock barrel is loose in the socket. Do you know what size screw that is?
Ah...now presenting your key fob against the three ribs...I have had a problem with a low battery in the fob and also with a good battery...the car does not recognise the key fob and will not let you start it at all. Now that is at odds with your findings..BUT...there is a clue. If I get the situation happening when the key is simply unrecognised, if I get out of the car and go through a lock/unlock procedure then those ribs DO recognise the key and it starts straight away. This has happened three times in the past with around 9/10 months separation between..the last two with good batteries in the fob. I don’t have an explanation to offer but the door trick seems to work! I don’t know if that is any use!!! Good work on mentioning lubricating the lock...I never touched them in the nine years I had the Freelander!! Stay safe, Richard😀😀😀😀
Hi Simon you may want to add that if the vehicle battery is flat and the barrel lock isn’t working for some reason you can “ power up “ the car by using the towbar electric s or side indicator.....not my idea watched it on RU-vid but can’t find who it was
Hi Simon. I please need some assistance. I had a problem with the transfer case solenoid on my Discovery 3. I removed it to clean it, but I cannot by any chance get the plastic part to fit into the fork inside the transfer case. And if that isnt enough, i switch on the ignition and a whole bunch of christmas lights appear. Can you help me please?
Simon I'm a year late to this post, I'm searching for an answer. I have gone through three remotes and all have stopped unlocking and locking the door and forcing me to open them manually (first world problems) . Is it possible the key fobs are no longer charging and the cause is in the inductive charging ignition? (I know the question is not directly related to this topic)
Simon Simon ! I terribly need your help please 😢 my freelander 2 2010 key barrel is working, but it just wouldn’t allow me to open the door manually, what’s the problem please help… would it be the “key barrel to latch cable” ?
Yes, the key can turn, but it just wouldn’t open the door. Is that a cable connected with the key barrel to the door latch? Appreciate very much for your answer🙏
