You do appreciate that the rear stereo controls work independently of the main system do you? So you listen to the stereo as normal and the kids have the option of listening to a CD or a different radio station to your choice via the headphone socket. They can’t control what you listen to.

I've had mine 3 years , 2005 disco 3 and I love it ,the air suspension has been replaced with coil springs and it handles in my opinion much better I have replaced the electric hand brake which took me about 3 hours other than that I cant fault it it is automatic and generally get around 27 to gallon on a long trip i can average around 32 to the gallon i think for a big heavy motor car that's not bad all in all i find the car great to drive and comfortable.

10:40 to 10:56 to answer your question it's because, with headphones/headsets plugged in the backseats/boot seats audio controls each passenger can independently control their own music without interfering with the drivers main radio. In other words the driver can play what she/he wants and the passengers can as well...with headphones/headsets plugged in. hope this helps

If it follows on from my Discovery 2, the rear audio controls are independent so you can listen to the radio, while the kids in the rear seat can have a CD with headphones and control their own tracks and volume. Of course doesn't stop them fighting over who controls the music between themselves!

my lr3 has been a great truck. drives through everything with ease. perfect suv.
@chadmeyer9500
@chadmeyer9500 7 лет назад
And "everything" consists of?? You don't own a truck and you know damn good and well 95% of passenger cars can do and will do and have done everything you've done with your "truck". SOME SUVs ARE light trucks because they're built on a common platform used by actual light trucks like 1/2-ton and light-duty 3/4-ton pickups. GMC and Chevy Suburbans come immediately to mind. Your "truck" is not a light truck in any way, shape or form, regardless of what anyone tells you.
@Scrammy18
@Scrammy18 7 лет назад
Chad Meyer it actually has a ladder frame chassis which is the same structure as a truck frame. it actually has a full frame and a unibody both together to make it more rugged and tough that most vehicles out there. it also has a low range locking gear box and can haul close to 8 thousand lbs. Pretty truck like. I know it's not an actual truck but in my state of New York when people talk about my vehicle they always say "your truck". I know it's an suv and it's amazing at what it does. everyone else in my family has a Chevy pickup. it's a nice truck but not for me. my lr3 is way more comfortable and better on trips. I didn't think anyone would flip out so much over some wording. who cares what I call it. it's mine. to be truthful what I have replaced since 2009 has been an A arm and sway bar. only things that broke or wore out. everything else has been regular maintenance. Compared to my mother's Cadillac which has had more problems or recalls that I can count. At least she had the truck. You can call it an SUV that's fine that's what it is. I'm just used to people calling it a truck. Hopefully that clears some things up

I remember when my dad used to have a 2005 Discovery 3 HSE when I was 10 years old, and I thought it was a brilliant car. Unfortunately he ended up selling it after just 5 months of ownership because of how unreliable it turned out to be. He traded it in for a 2011 Isuzu Denver Max Plus pick-up, bought brand-new from our local Isuzu dealer.

I'm really interested in getting a Disco 3. And great to find you review. I've been reading a lot of complaints about the reliability. Does it break down often?
@autoanimals
@autoanimals 7 лет назад
+Azizi Khalid Hi, The Discovery 3 in the video is around 11 years old now and on the whole has done very well. Reliability with these cars tends to come down to how well they have been looked after, and how they have been treated. The only breakdown we have had was when a driveshaft fell out of a front wheel hub. This was proved to be due to a mechanical failure of the CV joint which was evident by plenty of knocking and clunking sounds prior to the failure. It's an easy fix for a garage, and is not unusual. Reliability wth a car of this size and type makes people nervous as there is more to potentially go wrong, and the parts tend to cost more. This however, can be applied to most vehicles in the large 4x4 category. Our advice would be, keep a bit of cash to one side for short notice repairs, and try to find one that's got all it's service history. Take a mechanic or knowledgeable person with you when buying to check it over. The main points to watch out for are a vibration when accelerating (worn Torque converter which can be costly to replace) and 07 to 08 model years, as there are reports of the oil pump casing failing (design since revised) causing an engine write off. Most other failures are normal wear and tear as the vehicles get older, and should be expected. All in all, despite the potential reliability issues with the Discovery 3 (and while the Discovery 3 is not perfect compared to it's rivals, I must stress *potential*), most owners are happy with them and tend to regret selling them!

I own the North American version (they called it LR3 here) and the single biggest problem has been the electrics. If something goes wrong, _everything_ gets put into limp mode and it can be problematic to isolate the fault. I had a stuck relay in in my ABS controller, so the air suspension quit working, the transmission was limited to 2nd gear... I had to replace the entire ABS module because Rover put the relays _inside_ the thing, whereas older models had the relay under the seat. What could have been an $8 fix cost $110 for a used module. The electrics are just poorly engineered. Do a search on the parking brake, for example. And because of the MOST network I can't update my stereo or Nav unit. Now, having said ALL that... I love this thing. It's incredibly comfortable, and quiet at high speeds. I live in a cold climate, and the heated windshield is a delight. I can fit both my kids in their safety chair in the back, and my dogs in the cargo area. With the seats folded down I can sleep in the back (6 ft. tall). It's incredibly capable. The occasional electrical fault is irritating, but once repaired are reliable again for a good long while. I plan on keeping this vehicle for a long time.

Hi really good review, most useful I've seen, but just a few questions: 1: what kind of driving do you do in it, and what is your average mpg figure (I've heard it's low and I don't know wether I can afford to run it!). 2: how much (roughly) does it cost to fill up. 3: I have a dog and I don't know wether treating myself to a higher spec model, with leather (hse like yours probably) would be benificial as one of my mates has a top spec one, two labs, and his seats are ruined, but then again he does have three kids! Do you think that claw marks would make permanent damage or would it just polish out. My dog is a little terrier so the claws aren't massive but I'm still unsure it as I'm sure leather repair will cost a fortune. Thanks for the great review and all of your assistance.
@autoanimals
@autoanimals 8 лет назад
Hi, glad you found it useful! To answer your questions, Adam says: 1. If I had to break it down to a percentage, it would be about 80% dual carriageways, 10% back roads, 5% light off road and 5% heavy off road. It copes with all situations without any fuss. Typically I will see around 25mpg, but don't forget I have about 150kg of extra weight from all the extra bits I am carrying (roof rack, heavier tyres, bash plates underneath, recovery equipment in the boot etc). When I first got it in it's factory spec (HSE), I could push about 34mpg if I was driving gently. 2. Currently I fill it up with Shell Vpower Nitro+, which costs around £90 for a full tank. Of course, if you go for a super market fuel, it will be a bit cheaper. 3. I've found the leather interior to be quite hard wearing for my purposes, and just need a good clean every now and then. I think if you put any animal on the seats it will damage them over time (and i'm not sure there is any interior known to man that is 100% kid proof!). I occasionally have a search and rescue dog in the boot and have not come across any issues yet with the wear and tear. The plastics are quite hard wearing  (but cream will mark more easily), and the carpet is quite rugged. Stick a rubber boot mat in, and a dog guard (plenty on ebay) and I think you will be absolutely fine . This is what they are designed for!

+Auto Animals Hi again, I have recently started towing about a tonne of wood back every time. How much do you think this would effect performance and the dreaded mpg figure, do you have any experience towing with yours? Thanks for the help.
@autoanimals
@autoanimals 8 лет назад
+Aventador Dreamer In regards to performance, your unlikely to notice anything. While the TDV6 can be a little slugging to get going sometimes (not to be confused with sluggish from bad EGR valves or a split intercooler hose, these are things to watch out for), but when towing it feels like there is nothing behind you. I'm not a regular trailer tower, but having recovered a number of other vehicles in challenging terrain with the Discovery 3, I can comfortably say that there isn't many competitors in the market that will have as much grunt, stability and capability as a Discovery when it comes to dragging something behind you. The vehicle always feels firmly seated and gives you confidence in what your doing, and may suit your towing requirements very well. MPG will of course drop with regular towing, as it will with any vehicle. So while the Discovery 3 might be a bit worse on the MPG front compared to some alternatives, at least you know you have one of the most capable vehicles on the market for doing the job you need to do, especially if it involves heavy loads. For me, that would be more important than the 3 or 4 MPG difference you might notice.

It's the 3 litre unit on the D4 that's problematic, the 2.7 it's actually very reliable, even at very high mileages. On top of that, financially viable engine replacements are now possible at around 3k with refurbished engines and warranty.

Adam@AA - Hi Tomasz, I have owned it for just over 3 years now, and unfortunately I have had to deal with the worst of the things that can go wrong. In those years it has had in no partiuclar order: Front CV failure causing the alloy wheel to become damaged, all 6 glow plugs failed resulting in the body being removed due to being seized in the head and requirng head removal, recondition of gearbox and transfer box, new rear prop, gearbox flush, 2 new body mounts, new rear brake lines, blocked sunroof drains, central locking failure and a few expensive services. All in all, it's not a cheap car to run and this is what puts most people off. If you are handy with a spanner and have some spare cash it's manageable. This isn't to say all Discovery's are like this, but they are all points of failure that are becoming more common as they age and need to be considered. If you are on a budget I would suggest buying a Toyota!

That POS is not a "truck". It has a curb weight around 5300 lbs and the GVWR is just over 7000 lbs. Meaning that after passengers you have a usable "payload" of well under 1000 lbs. Good luck doing "farm work" with a "truck" like that.
@NiteTrain345
@NiteTrain345 6 лет назад
Payload and towing capacity are different. It can tow 5,500lb IIRC. You want a big heavy vehicle for towing, any vehicle can tow, not all can stop while towing.
