I'm yet again repairing the wife's Land Rover Discovery 4. I'm going to be fitting new rear discs, pads, and refurbishing the calipers with new pistons and seals.
The caliper pistons and seals were ordered online from 'Bigg Red'.
The discs and pads were just ordered from an eBay seller.

For example - using "Safety Squints" (TM) - squinting while using a grinder with no guard :) as per ColinFurze.

A man of many talents. There is nothing worse than those wire wheels aka spinning disks of death, love to use them but hate having to pull the little metal spikes out of every part of the body. Love that you do a lot of different things, keep up the great work

It would be easier if I didn't lol. I've had the body off the bloody thing 3 times! Once to do an egr pipe as we thought it was the cross over pipe. And then the left hand turbo went. Got two reconditioned ones. Fitted them, put it all back together and the right hand one was whining so body off again. Sent the turbo back. Got it back again and refitted. Nightmare lol!

Overall a good vid, got a D4 myself. You didn't show it so probably worth mentioning, there is a parking brake pad reset and bedding in procedure that should be carried out after replacing disc or parking brake shoes. That should hopefully delay the inevitable parking brake actuator failure (another common issue). Also there should be a bung to close up the hole in the brake disc that you use to set the parking brake shoe adjusters through.

Thanks 👍Yes I had to rebuild the EPB module on this too (new cogs fitted) and two new cables. I bought a code reader that lets you do the EPB and quite a few other things. This D4 has to be one of the worst cars that we've ever owned. I've had the body off it 3x and replaced both turbos, both EGR pipes, rear crossover pipe, bushes, arms etc. Then a few weeks back I had a charge system fault which was the Lin bus wire on the alternator, and now the rear hatch isn't opening, changed the switch already, so I've just got a new actuator and mechanism for that. Bloody nightmare...

The wife loves it 😂😂😂I've got a 2011 ML350 although I did have to do the oil cooler on that, and ABS sensors, rear springs, and a front spring a week or so ago.

The reason the dust seal didn't seem to sit in the groove correctly is because the end probably rolled over. You need to put the dust seal on the piston first but keep it at the bottom end of the piston. Then you carefully feed the other end of the dust seal into the caliper opening. It will pop in easily because of its shape. With the dust seal on the piston and in the caliper you push the piston in. Works every time.

Thanks I might try that next time I need to do one. I just followed the way that the manufacturer shows on their website (big red) they have a video showing how to do it and made it look soooooo easy! I guess they had a bit more practice than I did 😂😂

I am happy to see that it's not only my brake callipers and anchors that are this rusty (Disco 3 2009). I was wondering whether with this level of rust it makes sense to refurbish them or just buy new callipers. Rust is fine on the surface but when it gets to piston grooves where the seals are located one starts to wonder.

Well, since I did these they are still working fine, no leaks or anything. Had plenty of other issues with the bloody thing though 😂😂

I replaced the rubbers on the calliper of a Mitsubishi Outlander, what a job to get the piston back in with the new rubber on, now that I’ve done it once I’m sure it would be easier if I had to do it again 😆 If I had somewhere to do the work like you, then I would do a lot more of my own work. I have a few jobs that need doing but I’m not doing them outdoors in the current climate 😂
