In this video we fit the Britpart grooved and drilled brake discs to the rear of our Land Rover Discovery 3 /4 . We also replace the handbrake shoes and overhaul the rear caliper sliders.
Brilliant video, thanks. Helped me a lot by replaying bits when i wanted to check everything was going back as it should. I had to take the actuator out as well and reset it after it jammed up. Keep up the good work guys, and thanks again.
Great video guys. I have found the easiest way to remove the pad retain springs is to get a broad bladed screw driver under the bottom off it (curved bit), and the lever it out out towards you so you are essentially pivoting the spring out around the pin by moving it at 90+ degrees to the face of the shoe. This action naturally compresses the spring and walks it off of the mushroom head of the pin. Replacing it is the is the opposite, offer it up at almost 90 degrees so you get the outer edge of the spring under the mushroom head and the pivot it downwards and push up at the same time. You can pretty much use your fingers and then just some pliers after ensure its fully slid home. Hope that makes sense.
Good video. Thanks. I didn’t really want to get into this sort of thing myself but as I’m now on my third handbrake module in three years, I’m trying to learn all I can about them.
I have just done this to mine because of the dreaded hand brake squeal, what a job and a half I must admit the air was blue but did get it back OK and is now working perfect, just one thing when you adjust the hand brake setting you unwind the adjuster 8 clicks. Great video.
Really good video, good idea doing a kit that includes brand new bolts, seals ,springs, dust caps etc as you could put on new discs and one of these old components could fail and it means a complete stripdown again for the sake of a few pounds extra.
So I’ve had mine on the car for about 8 weeks and they work amazingly yet still look brand new. That’s never happened before! I’d post a picture but RU-vid don’t let you.
Hi Guys, I think you have missed some very important points, You need to put the hand brake into service mode on a RRS, also there is an adjuster, an allen key bolt, that allows some adjustment to the top silver bracing bar. There is a great resource on the D3 forum called Bodsy's brake bible that explains the full adjustment. what you have done will work for a few months but because you haven't done all adjustment points, it will probably cause EPB jam I the future, I learnt this from bitter experience.
Hi - thanks for the update Here is the link to the document if other want to see it disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/userpics/11748/Bodsys_Brake_Bible_V1.4sml.pdf I will do a video on the reset process tomorrow and link it at the end of this video
is there any precautions with regard to jacking up the air suspension ? and why did you not ease some freeing oil into the slider whilst trying to remove it ? i have seen many cases of these being snapped off rendering the carrier unusable !
Love the videos, been watching them from Barbados and they’ve really helped me out with the car, but I would like to know the torque specs on the hub bolts. Thanks a lots for the great content.
I am struggling to get my rear discs off, double checked the handle brake is off, but it feels like the disc is sticking on the handle brake shoes, its loose and i can move the disc about 10mm forward but i can't get the bugger off, any ideas? Great video and great kit !!
Good advice but be aware there is adjustment in the electronic module if this is near it’s end and the cable to drum has any slack it will run out of adjustment and possibly lock the brakes on in a position where you can’t rotate the disc to take pressure off the cables resulting in cutting the cables and on a bad day new handbrake control module = 600 qwid and a lot of time to sort out
Good video for fitting new brake shoes/discs and pads, but you didn't include the handbrake re-initialisation procedure ?? and that's what I really needed for my mate's D3.
Hi Loved the Video , gave me the confidence to change my front pads and discs, very straight forward . However the pedal is now spongy. Just wondering if you had same issue ? If so how did you rectify it? Thanks
Hi Ian - spongy brakes normally means there is some air in the system - did you let any air into the system / disconnect the hydraulics anywhere ? Normally you need to give the pedal a push a few times to push the pistons out back against the discs but this normally improves quite quickly.
@@L663 Hi Thanks for the reply. No Just changed front discs and pads, no brake hoses were disconnected. Ill bleed the brakes as a precaution and take it from there. Thanks again.
lovely video guys......any chance of a video that incorporates how to do this job if you have the electric parking brake and don't have the service tool to wind back the hand brake.
Matthew Stevens I think they just did that. 😂. Normally its a good idea to remove the large pink? Park brake fuse under the bonnet (particularly important on manual gearbox cars)
@@AndyK.1 i dont think so, if it was an electric handbrake, why was there a cable operating the shoes?.....my understanding is the epb incorporates a motor driving a piston on the caliper
@@AndyK.1 thank you for taking the time to clear that up, I thought there was a piston like the range rover sports, saved me some head scratching later. Cheers
Hi guys, Great video. When you marked the discs L and R, are they left and right as you are looking at the front of the vehicle, or are you standing at the back of the vehicle looking at it, to help mark out L and R? Again, great series and well done.
Hi - this is not like a ervice light that you can reset it is one of the brake wear sensor is touching the disk or faulty. There is one wear sensor on the front and one on the rear - both on the LHS from memory - you need to check these and check your pad wear.
Hi, I sent you a e-mail about a problem with i'm having with this kit I hope you get this message. I purchased this kit in 2019 for my disco 3 v8 se the rotors warped I went on your e-bay store you don't offer this kit anymore why? anyway tried purchasing this kit from your UK website and it says you won't deliver this kit to the states( NYC) again why? The rotor in question is the passenger side rear but I want to buy the whole kit again being if one rotor warped the drivers side is not to far behind can you please help? big fan of your company thanks.
Send an email to mail @powerfulUK dot com and we will send you a link to make payment for replacement rotors. A lot of the communication was going through ebay which is tricky as they block certain words / email addresses / links
Yes i am pretty sure you can fit the 6 pot calipers to the front - see out L405 brake upgrade video. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oJ0UNlYK16M.html
Hi, have you received my email? Messages that I left on you answering machine? About my issue with my warped rotors? Personally I think you should send me a set being that I'm a loyal fan of your company and I purchased numerous item's from your company. Some sort of help would be greatly appreciated. The rotors in question are only two years old they should have not warped already I don't go off road I live in NYC the concrete jungle. Can you help me with this dilemma?
This video needs a LIGHT or torch. to show where the new shoes are reinstalled. you can see the bloke's shoes and shirt, but the place to put the parts back are totally dark. a very amateur video.
