Simon…I only get the low battery warning after running the radio without the engine running until it turns off automatically, then restarting the radio which then runs for around five mins and shuts again then on the third restart, the radio works for 1/2 mins then the warning appears. It happens mostly when the battery is getting old ( they live about 3 years usually) but Kates battery is good. Another sign of frequent short running is that the tailgate opens fine but when you go to close it, you get a double bleep and it does not shut however, if you touch the door handles and deactivate the alarm/ central locking, then the tailgate will shut. I thought the low warning was generated by a slave battery that runs the dash electrics rather than the main starting battery…but I have never been sure that there IS an ancillary battery…I have never changed one yet! The cure for Kate is to do a 20/30 mile run and then it should be fine. Well done for buying one Kate!!…good luck with it and get young Simon to think up some new goodies for us! I occasionally get that warning on my Disco Sport in Winter. This is generally after short journeys or if the car has been standing for a few days . If you are using the front and rear heated screens, heated seats and all the other electrical devices on short journeys it doesn’t allow the battery to fully charge. A good long run generally solves the problem.
At 12.5v it's at about 80% charge which short journeys could well account for. I wonder if it's recently had a new battery and not had the BMS reset...
My DS displayed the low battery warning a lot during the infamous lockdown - because I never drove anywhere. Once I started using the car again all was fine. Haven't experienced it in my 2020 Defender. HTH
given the fact Kate has the heating set to 25c .. Simons guess that she's driving about with the heated seats & steering wheel set on full might be correct
I had this exact same issue on the L494, turns out it was simply a replacement of the smart key fob battery. I dont know if the Discovery has the same option as the L494 but selecting Auto Access Height puts the car in a full shutdown mode when parked. Helps preserve the battery (apparently). Since doing this, no issues with the low battery warning. Hope that helps!
I wanted to follow up on this comment as Ive had a number of issues with my L494 since I decided to take it upon myself to upgrade it from its original 2015 spec to as modern as I could. I made the following changes: 1. Rear tail lights to smoked 2. Exhaust tips to Black 3. Door mirror indicators to smoked 4. Changed all the badges to Black 5. Resprayed the alloys to Satin Black 6. Resprayed the brembo brake calipers to freshen them up 7. Sprayed the wheel hubs to Corris Grey to match the rest of the car 8. Changed the grille to the SVR version 9. Changed the window control units to the newer version 10. Wrapped the interior in carbon fibre 11. Fitted a nextbase dashcam 12. Upgraded the climate control to touchscreen 13. Upgraded the infotainment system to 12" Android based touchscreen 14. Upgraded the steering wheel controls 15. Added in a wireless car charger 16. Added an apple airtag for extra security After making the above changes it was never quite the same car. The auto stop start never worked and then I started getting low battery warnings. I tested everything and all came back fine. In the end I decided on a new battery (I only have one battery as it's 7 seats). This you would think would be the end of the issues, NOPE! 3 days into a new battery and you guessed it low battery! After more research I took it upon myself to figure it out. I fully charged the battery, removed the negative terminal for 15 mins to give the car a reset. I reset the battery monitoring system and kept my fingers crossed. That was 3 weeks ago and haven't had an issue since, auto stop start works almost immediately and no battery issues etc. Then came yet another issue, I was getting the random double beeps whilst the car was parked. It was really annoying, no errors on the dash, nothing! I figured out the issue the other day, key fob battery on the spare key. So I swapped both key fob batteries just to be sure. No double beeps since. Keeping my fingers crossed, love your videos it's helped a novice like myself figure out how to do all these things. I'm now hoping to have some trouble free motoring and enjoy what I have to say is one of the best cars I've ever owned

I have a 2019 range rover Evoque L551 and the issue im having is the car randomly started having a issue with the radio turning on and off intermittently. checked the battery load and tested good. what do you think the issue might be. worked great no issues before 4 days ago and now its having this issue and saying the rear camera is not working also. BUT it does work for one second and has a issue. Also the back up sensors start acting up too. Thank you for any help.
Does Kate's remote start app work on a regular basis? Secondly when the DS sat for a week it went into sleep mode and I was forced to start it with the key and not with the remote start, it wouldn't let me. I have a feeling LR's don't like aftermarket batteries, idk .
I have exactly the same on my FL2 on a 63 plate, recently had a full service and cam belt I asked my very trusted mechanic to check out the battery .. he said nope it’s spot on 🤷🏼♂️
My dealer told me that LR had a batch of LR batteries that were defective(my original battery was a factory battery and not an aftermarket one). I had the same low battery warning light and on top of that my remote start would not work. So my dealer tested the battery twice and did not pass, my 2020 DS always started but had the warning light, so the dealer replaced the battery and I don't get the warning light and my remote start works perfectly.
I've had 1 battery under warranty, but short journeys will bring about the dreaded light as the smart charge system isn't all that smart.. Tell Kate if she doing short journeys then put a solar panel trickle charger on the dash, mine plugs into OBD port and has cured all my low mileage ills.. The light is banished to the diagnostic grave 😂
My 2017 Discovery did NOT give any warning like that. I got stranded at a gas station when my battery went out. I could not figure it out until i installed a Ford truck battery with 800 cca. Turns out the Discpvery sport uses a higher rated one. I could say, the symptoms I had for a bad battery is my AC would SOMETIMES work and my heater would SOMETIMES work. The airflow pathways on the heating side would not work, meaning the dampers did not open or direct airflow. Another symptom I noticed at the last minute is my trip mileage and current date reset once. Oh wel, $300 later for a battery at autozone, now everything works.
So, is there a way to re-program the voltage threshold of this warning? Very annoying. I had it for years when I was not driving each day. Never had problems starting. I swapped the battery and now I have it way less often. The start-stop stopped working the firat time I saw this error, years ago. Then came back. Then gradually stopped for good. No faults in modules
Hi discovery sport 2017 hse owner and mechanic I only do short journeys at weekends this always comes up after leaving all week without using car it’s the bms sensor (battery monitoring sensor) to clear this reading on screen low battery and reset the sensor drive car for at least 15 miles this resets everything or buy a smart charger ctek or maypole model and charge as required hope this helps dave
I see that at minute 11:38 the screen does not turn on from the car, my screen does not turn on and at some point it showed me a low battery, can you help me or direct the solution, I converted from Peru.
I have look at this numerous times and have come to the conclusion that it is rarely and issue with the actual battery (that said and old battery is likely to trigger it also) I have replaced both batteries in the car RRS Sport and tried without resetting the BMS with GAP tool and another new set of batteries and resetting the BMS and the warning still occurs when the car has not been driver for a few days and the last few trips were short ones. I keep it on charge with a Ctek MX5 but and the warning does seem to disappear until you go off for a drive and then dont connect it back up for a few days. the car never not starts, and the battery tester shows a good amount of volts also. The annoying thing is the tailgate getting disabled, but I do think its the BMS calculating rather than voltage testing each time you open the car. it will spring the message seemingly if it thinks the car engine needs running to top up the battery, even though the battery charged (it just hasn't been charged through the BMS I have tried charging directly on the battery and through the jumper posts under the bonnet, and if you charge on those posts it does seem to cull the message as it would appear that the BMS must get a reading during the charging as directly on the battery the BMS doesnt know its been charged and hence cant be doing a voltage test. Its daft if the limit is set at 12.5v as most batteries will never hold that for very long 12.1 or 12 would be more realistic. Someone posted it could be related to a keyfob battery, I will try that also but would like to understand the logic behind why that would cause it, im not saying it doesnt just how. The car has no bad earths the dash cams have battery back ups for 72 hrs and the trackers have their won internal batteries and very low power consumption. The other thing Ive heard is that sometimes disconnecting things on the obd2 port can sometime cause the ports to stay open and use power but some things its not possible to turn off unless you pull it out of the socket!
Kates DS is pre 2020 MY facelift. That is not an OEM battery. Ensure that the battery meets LR requirements regarding CCA / Amp Hours etc. Short drives will not be sufficient to charge up the battery. Ensure that no interior lights etc are left on. If u want your Battery to last a long time, then turn off the stop / start feature… If u use Stop / Start, the battery will only last about 3 years, and AGM Battery are expensive… OEM battery in my 2017 DS diesel, was still going strong after over 5 years / 105,000 kms I always turned off stop / start…. Sydney, Australia LR dealers quoting over $ 1,000 for supply & fit of new battery. LR roadside assist approved company offer suitable spec AGM battery for under $ 500.00 with a longer warranty, and they come to you 24 / 7…
I get the exact same on my 2016 L550 HSE Luxury. Had the battery checked out and it’s fine apparently. I get this warning every single day and the most annoying thing is that it doesn’t have enough power to raise the tailgate. If the engine’s on, it’s fine. Very, VERY annoying. Is there like a premium battery which would help eliminate this issue?
@@wayneaustin7 Yeah, I think it's the Evoque which has the little extra one, behind the glove box I think. Will fit it next week as I'm still waiting for my 'big' scan tool so I can 'tell' the car it's got a new battery. Although quite how a fancy a** car like this can't figure it out is beyond me (since every car I've owned going all the way back to the 70s have managed just fine lol!)... Technology huh, love it, but it sure can be dumb sometimes.
If not using the car a lot, you can extend the life of the battery by keeping the car locked. this turns off most of the car's systems that are ON when the car is unlocked.
Had the same low battery warning with my discovery sport when i bought it last July, start/stop and auto tailgate wouldn’t work took it back they charged it but it happened again so they put a new battery on it. 65 plate with 32000 miles on it.
Long standing nightmare with all JLR , petrol engines are much better due to power distribution/management being different to diesels. Brand new evoque no change in use since new two years ago now starting with low battery warning, battery charged and all now good. It’s an Achilles heel!!! Over 8 years and 8 JLR different vehicles in the family we’ve had FIVE new batteries! Kates car isn’t the original battery btw.
I get this too. It’s on my 2016 evoque. The main battery is good and I found that the telematics module in the back has a battery. I took it off and went to the dealership to buy a new one and they said that those batteries have been on back order for two years. 😮. I was like screw it. I’ll just drive it like that then. It’s not like if it was affecting anything anyway. Cheers!

I found the little battery behind the glove box on the passenger side. Same battery as garage door backup battery. I think this aux battery hives power to things like the rising gear knob when there's no main power to the car, but you have to get it into neutral. Pretty easy to replace really. (Rather take the old battery to a battery shop to replace)
@@theshadypilot yea I looked there and it's not there. I think it's under the hood but I haven't even looked to see yet. Lol! It's still running but I'm wondering if it causing the gearbox fault issue or is the gearbox bad.
You should have given the battery a good charge then reset the bms with your scan tool. If the warnings came back it’s time for a new battery. There’s no way your little gadget can properly test battery capacity in a few seconds either
Sorry that is incredibly misleading and not helpful The Low Battery Warning is an incredibly common warning on Land rovers it does need investigating for sure If 12.50 is trigger surly thats too high like they are encouraging the fault display the problem is customers believe JLR have there interests at heart couldnt be further from the truth
