@@seriouslyseriesaustralia Just one question, I have read that many people use Rx Super 15w-40 in their gearbox and transfer case. I live in a cool climate in southern NSW and was wondering if you think this ok for my perentie? Thanks Oscar

@@oscargordon3149I would probably stick with the 20w viscosity oil. I have driven my Perentie in low temperatures (-2 degrees Celsius) and from my experience I haven't had any issues changing gear. 20w is what Land Rover recommends so I would probably stick with that unless you wish to change your transmission oil before it gets to summer each year. Cheers Geoff

Just servicing my 6x6, and your description of where the transfer case inspection nut is has helped. The 6x6 transfer is pretty crowded with numerous drives coming out, so not easy to spy. Thanks, Andrew (Perth, WA - just up the road)

I really enjoy your lengthy explanations and videos. Speaking from the other side of this marble (Boston), I did find that the perentie operating manual has a 'parade' defined which covers a checklist. It is a bit excessive but is a great foundation for a 'shakedown' before a long journey. Cheers!

I can not stop looking at the amazing state of any iron under your Landy... It looks like it has been sand blasted. Mine is so rusty after years of salt in winter on the roads.

Hi Serge. Well the red dust over here makes it a bit deceptive. I try to keep on top of the paint work to minimize corrosion to the vehicle and use fish oil were possible. Cheers Geoff

hi geoff, thats bernd from colombia, south americe. interesting vids and i would like to contribute some points. i have 2 lr serie 2a and 3 and maintenance is the hip or hop of the vehicle. if you do your inspection underneath - dont forget to clean the breather in the axle. u-joints: dont wait 6 month to give them some hub of grease. dont do any damage just you are underneath give them some fresh grease. oil for the gear and transfer box: they get upnormal hot, at least over here and the boxes are known for this. so i choosed 90-140 gearbox oil, runs much smoother, no problem changing gears. gl-5: there is a rumor that it reacts with parts out of bronce. but some gl-5 explizit say that they wont. checking the level: before you open the nuts give it a nice flush of cleaner to get the dirt away and clean with paper. gear and transferbox oillevel: for some reason my gearbox pumps the oil in the transferbox, guess its the o-ring. whatever, its absolutely crucial that the oillevel dont exit maximum level, because as low oil level will destroy the box, also exceeded oil-level will do the same. keep on going --- nice channel

Great video,it would help to show where you put in the oils,seeing you clearly can't put it where it's removed.

Talking about tcase leaking across, I checked and changed my fluids yesterday, I found engine and tranny were fine, but my tcase somehow was very high! I have no idea how much but I would say half to a liter came out the fill point, swing as the others were not low and I have not had to top either up since last oil change this seems very odd and confusing that Spock must’ve teleported extra oil into it
@seriouslyseriesaustralia

This is a common issue. the seal between the gearbox and transfer case can leak. the gearbox operates at high temperature and will pump oil into the transfer case. Kind regards, Geoff

Many Landcruisers have the same handbrake setup on the back of the transfer.. they rarely work though :)

Hey geoff, love these videos. Ive got a series 3 Stage 1 with a 3.9 and LT95 gearbox, what oil do you recommend for the gearbox/transfer case, do you reccomend the same as the perentie?? do you use any addatives like smooth shift? cheers.

Hi Shaun. Great to hear you are enjoying these videos. That sounds like a awesome Landy you have there. I use the same oil in both and I tend to stay well clear of additional additives. In my experience they tend to cause more harm then good. Thanks again for watching, cheers Geoff

75w90 are thinner but hold viscosity better in high temp than 80w90... synthetic vs mineral. And for gearbox best was MTF90 or ATF oil, due heat resistance. For transferbox use same oil like in diffs.

Hi Jakub. Thank you for sharing that, I believe that is the case with the later gearboxes in the Defender, which we will be covering in a future. Thanks for sharing those tips. Kind regards Geoff

For.the 5 speed landies use redline mtl. The perentie 4 speeds need an engine oil. Itll be rhe same oil ij the engine gearbox and transferbox. I think penrite do a transaxle synthetic oil 75/85 which works well. Otherwise use engine oil. Ep90 has additives that will effect the spacers between the set of gears in the middle of the transferbox. I dont think they damage the spacers or synchro cones. Jist discoloured them. Anyways dont use ep90 in either the gearbox or transfer box but use engine oil or penrite full synthetic 75/85. I think there is info regarding the penrite oil on klr website. Ep90 also creates difficulty in gearbox changes i the box is hot.!

Hey Geoff, I am sure you are very familiar with the saggy mirror syndrome which perenties have. Have you replaced your mirrors? if so are the new ones staying in their position? Thanks, oscar
@seriouslyseriesaustralia
@seriouslyseriesaustralia 4 года назад
G'day Oscar. I hope all is well? My dirvers side mirror is okay, though the passegners side one is pretty sad. I am in the middle of trying to find the correct Brit- Tax (believe the brand is of the top of my head) mirros as I don't like of the brit part ones and I don't think they will stand up to the rough road conditions out here. I'll keep you posted on the developments. Kind regards Geoff

I wish I can send picture to you to ask you what is this for. In front of Perentie bull bar behind had 2 circle holes and have a metal tube slot thru those holes. What is that metal tube for?
