I remember when I played this back in college... makes me tear up. I miss playing music every day. My favorite part was always the small nod to Joy to the World near the middle of the piece. Beautiful rendition, would listen 1000x more if I could.
This is absolutely breathtaking. I've never heard this song before. Excellent mallet choice, that combined with your technique really pulls out the deepest, richest undertones of every chord and gives the piece such momentum and emotion. Sadly, I gave up playing after high school, but it was always performances like this that inspired me. Absolutely LOVE this.
You can literally feel the passion coming through this performance. I'm in awe of your musicianship. Thank you for this experience, and kudos to you and all your hard work.
Lorenzo Capasso how did I miss this reply? Yes that'd be AMAZING! I've seriously tried to listen to other interpretations of this and simply do not care for the faster tempo. It distracts from the beauty of the progressive harmonies. I would like VERY much for you to email me this. anthony.torres86@gmail.com
Im at a loss for words. Ive watched this 3-4 times and everytime i notice something I didnt before and it absolutely astounds me. Beautiful man, just beautiful
Freshmen in highschool here. Just received this solo after a local college professor suggested it to me. Looking forward to playing it and this video is a great reference. The tone quality and mallet choice is wonderful, and it sounds absolutely beautiful. Bravo.
Excellent. Moving! Beautifully recorded to capture the fabulous resonance and essential marimba acoustics which are often missed on concert recordings.
This is definitely going to be my solo next year. Right now I am playing Donna Bohn's Celebration Suite. This solo is so beautiful, the sanctuary is perfect for sound quality so Great job!
That's because the Vic Virth Performer, in my opinion, takes the open segment way too fast. Her technique and accuracy is superb, but this is not a fast piece. It is supposed to be a slow flowy piece, from my interpretation at least.
I'd have to agree with other comments saying your interpretation is better than the one on Vic Firth. What a great video! Absolutely beautiful. What an incredible instrument, and an incredible player!
Lorenzo Capasso I would like to play this piece. Could I send the score dude? I would like to talk to you, facebook.com/totan.torrijos My email: jonathan_torrijos96@hotmail.com Greetings friend, you is going great.
I have my symphonic percussion marimba solo coming up in a month and I was wondering if I could play this for it... It's an excellent piece and would be perfect for it. Please get back to me ASAP :)
Well played sir! I will be referring to this video A LOT because I'm currently learning this piece and I'm working VERY hard to make it sound professional, like you did. I know that a good mallet selection can help a lot with sound quality. So, any mallet choice recommendations, Mr. Capasso?
Thanks Mr Jarrod!:) For this piece I used: Left hand -> Marimba One DHB3-B Right hand -> 3(Marimba One DHB3-B) ; 4 (Malletech Stout GS13). I think that "MarimbaOne mallets" are the best choise! Very deep sound and emphasize bass!
I noticed that you changed some sixteenth notes to sextuplets, which makes it sound better (I have started doing this as well after hearing you do it), and I was just wondering what made you think to make that change
Hey I'm playing this too and the lowest note needed it the C below the bass clef(very bottom not of 5 octave marimba). That C is only played once though. But the D just above that is used quite a bit
I absolutely love this piece but I don't have a large enough marimba for it. Do you think there would be a way to play this song on a 4.3 octave marimba without changing it too much?
james willis tip, don't make this your first marimba solo haha. start off with something easier like yellow after the rain. then work your way up. make this number 3 or so
+Shadowrezz because its easy haha! my first solo freshman year was A Cricket Sang and Set the Sun by Blake Tyson. definitely one i reccommend to the higher level incoming freshman! :P
mind sharing your mallet choice? i absolutely loved the way they pulled the sound out of the marimba, and the bass notes were nice and resonant. one of my percussion instructors is going to PASIC and was gonna pick up anything we needed as long as we paid him haha. so it'd be great if you could share your mallet choice! and wonderful performance by the way. ill definitely be referring to this video as i go about learning the solo! thanks
Thanks for your appreciation, however, the mallets that I chose are: Left hand -> Marimba One DHB3-B Right hand -> 3(Marimba One DHB3-B) ; 4 (Malletech Stout GS13) I hope it will be useful for your study! :)
Amazing performance. Listened to this countless times while trying to learn it myself, when you recorded this have you stereo panned the recording from the point of the listener or of the player? Thanks!
Hi, Lorenzo. How are you? I'm Brazilian and student in the Universidade Federal de Alfenas. I'm working in a film production for the university and this song is absolutly perfect for what I need. Could you please tell me one contact like your email or something that I could talk to you about it? I would be really really happy if I could use your song and your answer would be very important. Sorry for my bad english ..rs' thanks
In my opinion, your interpretation is different from Vic Firth's: more emotional and reverent. Mi piace molto, ottimo lavoro! Also have a look at my interpretation on my channel ;)
