I found a 97 40th anniversary in Montana, with 369,000 miles on it, it has some rust here and there but nothing dire or severe. Yet lol. Id like to eventually do something just like this to preserve it, so thanks so much for uploading this it really helps my adhd brain to really know whats at hand haha. Beautiful rig! Great rebuild well done. I've got a Series 80 had it since new 1996. Has done 97000 Kms (2021). Manual gearbox, petrol engine and absolutely no rust or modifications. Purchased a new LC200 V8 Twin Turbo diesel last year. Couldn't part with Series 80. The prices for Series 80s seemed to have bottomed out and are now rising here in Australia as people are recognising how good these vehicles are. Many are now approaching or have exceeded 500,000Km. Toyota reportedly said the engines are good for a least 1,000,000 Kms providing you look after them and change the engine oil and oil filter every 5000Kms, particularly with the diesel version. I understand that Toyota still manufacture this engine to put in forklifts and other off road applications with the option of running on LPG when necessary .

I'm curious with all that work to get it galvanized why didn't you paint the frame? Dip paint to protect the inside and outside. It will corrode much sooner now. How much did that cost? Why not galvanize the body? I really thought of doing this for a future project. Have not found many videos of anyone doing a land cruiser. Thanks.
My 80 series has a lot of rust in the back end. Would it be reasonably possible to only replace the frame rails near the back? Maybe I could cut and weld it. How much work is it to disconnect the body from the frame?
Did you fill any of the threaded holes on the chassis before galvanising?. Mine is just prepped for galvanising now and iv heard of different products to stop the galvanising covering the threads. 3m do a red Putty. Just wondering did you drill and tap or fill and remover filler after galvanising? Thanks

Parts and paint cost 15000 euros give or take a few 1000 Euros . It was 6 hours labor every night for 4 months so you can’t put a cost on that . I don’t think I would do it for some one else , but if they had endless money to spend maybe.😀
@@toyota80series62 Well done, amazing work! Did the chassis warp at all from the hot dipping? How did you remove corrosion inside the chassis tubes prior to galvanizing?
No it’s very strong chassis so no warpping at all, to get all corrosion and paint off the inside of chassis before galvanizeing,I got the galvanizing company to leave it steeped in the acid bath over night so it was perfectly clean in side
@@toyota80series62 amazing! I'm in quarantine in austria, got a 97 hdj80 and I'm gonna start taking it apart these days. Any advice you could give me for lifting the chassis off the frame?
I got the galvanising company to leave it in the acid bath over nothing before they galvanising it the following day it definitely removed all the paint.
