Kay, do you ever get people who critique your flights? LOL! Well, I am a former CFII and I flew GA for about 10 years. I've got another 30 plus years as an airline plot, and I want you to know that I have no tips to offer you. You have a really nice balance of knowing how to fly well, and being a real person too. You really do a great job. I love your conversational style too. And your 50 year old airplane is magnificent. After all these years, and thousands of hours flying all over the world, I am retired now. I don't intend to fly again, but it is nice to be able to go along with you while you fly. Thanks so much Kay.

I agree with you. Kay does an excellent job! I admire her for balancing her flight duties, talking on the radio & her channel audience. I've seen a lot of other pilots with their videos, and they seem to have a different style than Kay. I love the way she hits every aspect of the flight and what she is thinking about, always staying ahead of the airplane. I'm so impressed. Keep it up Kay! You're doing a great job! I love that you are having so much fun doing this too.

Kay, what impresses me the most- your CONFIDENCE. You're methodical and deliberate and you NEVER play catchup in the cockpit. You're always out in front. I direct people to your vids... I tell them- THIS... is how it's done. Happy New Year - stay safe and have fun.

My 5-year-old son and I were eating breakfast. We were watching this and he was glancing at it until you introduced yourself and said you can teach people to fly . He looked over at me and said with a bit of milk dribble out the mouth said he wanted you to teach him to fly.

That is hilarious. I guess that is his goal in life now, to be a pilot. I am thankful that a member of the younger generation is interested in GA.

Maybe check into some of your local flight schools or flying clubs for an introductory flight for you and your son! I grew up on a cattle ranch deep in the country and a neighbor of ours we did some horse work for happened to be an ATP (airline transport pilot, and this was in the 80’s) that happened to own two planes at a VERY small country airport/runway, a small Cessna (don’t know which though as I was a kid) but I REALLY remember the Bonanza!! I remember him taking me up many times in both planes. Those flights are burned into me FOREVER!! I am finally far enough along to be able to take this up myself and hopefully have my own 182 or similar in the next year or two!!!

My dad had his private pilot license and we took several short hops in a Cessna high wing (I don't remember the exact model, it wasn't a 172, but very similar) around the Houston area. Mostly Baytown, Anahuac, up to Tyler and probably more that I can't remember. He passed away a couple of years ago and listening to you talk through your flights reminds me so much of flying with him, listening to the radio calls and traffic, checklists, etc. Thank you for sharing your trips and being such a good example of how safety can be interesting!

as a former engineer I would think that a stronger fan is in order, also in older aircraft the hoses tend to get cracked and fail, maybe have that checked in your next annual.

As an avid aviation enthusiast and a GA pilot going on 20 years and a few thousand hours, most of which solo, one important practice I do when flying is to abstain from eating anything along my route. The reason is because if food gets stuck in my throat, then there’s a good chance of choking to death. I learned this the hard way many years ago and was very lucky to live to tell about it. Anyway, something to think about if flying solo. Thank you for your great content! Always a joy to watch!

NYC at New Years is crazy, literally toe to toe, elbow to elbow crowds. Did it one year and said TV is much better lol All kinds of mischief was happening around us, pickpocketing and ,fights, consider that choice wisely lol. Being a trauma nurse and being on call a lot made me a night owl, been doing it nearly 30 years has made it just natural for me.

"Kayviation", I like that! 😅 I knew an engineer who talked her way through everything back in the 1980s. I stood behind her pilot's seat in a C130 airplane as she did a "test run" as a ground running of engines and such is called for those unaware. There were 4 of us aboard to watch her and a quiet coengineer helping, we 4 were all new apprentices. This was our first time out for a test run. Those 3 guys got smart though, they were listening to something else, not to her. No one said a word, just her, detailing everything as you do, which is impressive. She even explained why gauge needles move, lights flash, what they tell her, I was intrigued and found it mesmerizing, hoping to be on the copilot's seat some day soon. Four big turboprop engines growling and suddenly, the hesdset I had on, intended to hear communications and to protect my ears from loud engine noises, was the thing I got blasted in. The engineer looked back at those she could see, and they were not even looking at what she was doing. So she yelled to get our attention, not knowing I was tuned in to her. Off it went, and I panicked and she said "Sorry!" and scolded the others for not taking the training we were being given. She had all rights to grab our attention, she was doing a fine job seemingly for that peer engineer who was already trained, and had there been an emergency, there could have been a chaos with some people scattering for unknown reasons. I say 'Woman Power' to you. 😊

Nice flight Kay, thanks for sharing. You made no mention of flashligihts. Consider at least two such as a pen light and a clip light you could clamp to a hat bill or even your shirt collar. As for the cold plexiglass being uninsulated is the problem and its a phenomena. What follows is a copy/paste from Bing; The phenomenon you are describing is called cold-induced vasodilation. When your skin is exposed to cold temperatures, the blood vessels in your skin constrict to conserve heat and keep your core warm. However, if you stand too close to a cold window, the heat from your body is transferred to the cold glass, causing your skin to cool down. Happy Flying!

My father was one of the first Federal Express employees. His employee number was 144. He earned his A&P while working for Key West Aero & Island City Flying Service in Key West back in the 1960’s. You really should fly down to Key West and enjoy the amazing view of the ocean where the coral reef ends and the deep seas begin. The water has a distinct line where the ocean goes from beautiful green to deep blue. Lotsa sunken ships are clearly visible from the air. I’m a retired Trucker. I did all my “Flying” at ground level. Lol

I remember years ago in Olive Branch Mississippi when my A&P Dad bought a Loran Nautical navigation unit and installed it in his Lark Commander. He installed an aviation Loran antenna, routed the cable, and installed his “Boat” Loran unit in the Dash of his Lark. It looked like it was a factory job. (They did make an FAA approved Loran for aircraft…but they were far more expensive). He hooked it up, turned it on and away he went. It worked perfectly.
