the native americans were very welcoming and helped the pilgrims to build houses and taught them to how to grow crops and hunt for food etc. they even brought them gifts on their arrival
Haha that bit with the turkey! Those things are to be found in suburban neighborhoods all the time now and that's not actually out of character for some of those feisty birds!
Everybody stole somebody's land. Even we black people, we stole Africa from the original inhabitants. The Japanese stole Japan from the Ainu. And the Red Indians were killing and eating each other all the time stealing each other's land. Know why the Caribbean sea is so named? Because of the marauding Caribs who were cannibals, enslavers etc
@@josephmungai1799 With this kind of logic, everything can be justified.. And do you even know how vast Africa is, you are so wrong. And with 300 languages that were spoken only in the U.S, it is not right to say all tribes were killing and eating eachother, this logic is so faulty it makes me mad. The tribal history in the U.S is so vast, complex and much uknown and forgotten, it is racist to narrow it down to, they were eating and killing eachother. I dont care if you are black, you are still racist against your own, using lies past down from the slavedriver and colonizer. The europeans that settled down were evil, it was not enough to steal the land. They also eliminated whole tribes, made languages dissapear, published in the newspapers encourageing citizens to go indian hunting, putting out trophies to kill children, to eradicate. Not ever have anyone been this evil, and here you are justifying it saying everyone has done it. You really need a reality check sir.
6:10- topical gag inspired by President Franklin Roosevelt's 1939 proclamation that Thanksgiving was to be celebrated on the THIRD Thursday in November, instead of the traditional last one. This made Republicans VERY angry (hence the topical gag in Tex Avery's "Holiday Highlights" (1940) showing a calendar noting Thanksgiving on November 21st {"For Democrats"} and the 28th {"For Republicans"}}. Congress put an end to that in 1942, officially declaring that the LAST Thursday in November was Thanksgiving......
this may be some of the best animation quality that terrytoons ever put out. there is better shading and framerate than usual and it almost matches some later fleischer stuff.
Personally i liked the cartoons of Paul Terry over Disney. Heckle and Jeckle, Mighty Mouse and the lesser known Gandy Goose and Little Roquefort. Those are classic to me.
That's not how it happened if it had not been for our Native Indian Ancestors the pilgrims would have starved to death and it was our Indigenous Ancestors who invented the first thanksgiving we also taught the pilgrims how to survive of mother earth
You forgot to mention that our NATIVE AMERICAN ANCESTORS found a boat load of europeans LOST at sea in 1492 . They didn't even know where they were at ! Then then once their numbers increased they turned on us and started committing GENOCIDE on our NATIVE AMERICAN ANCESTORS !
These were not cartoons. These were characters that we gave to our friends in school. Thanks for making our school breakfast memorable. Love ❤️🔗from Pakistan 🇵🇰.
The part with the hot dogs is hilarious because in my town, San Jose California, at every large sports event or conference or whatever brings large numbers of visitors to town, there are many of these hot dog carts - the 'dogs are bacon-wrapped and come with all kinds of condiments and are really delicious - and these stands are all operated by "Mexicans" which is what we call anyone who's Native American around here.
They had not set sail for America but India, by accident the land that they stopped at a land they thought to be India however that land turned out to be America.
What #SriramRajan is trying to saying is that if columbus had not got lost at sea and landed in the americas that the mayflower would not have come to the americas because the americas would have remained undiscovered . He just accidentally left out columbus's name .
Well it was but I still like it. Pretty much everything made before wokeness was racist. No problems at the time but looking back through today's lens? Yeah the shit we grew up with was pretty fucked up lol
So bad on so many levels! This was made in 1940 while one of my distant cousins was the US President, FDR. As my branch of his family arrived in 1623. within a generation we had taken a native wife. Do you think the US President could have won an election if he had revealed one of his ancestors was an Indian? They hid us well, but not completely. So If I told you that a young Half breed could be sold into slavery, overcome it and have descendants that because 1) Prime Minister Borden of Canada, and Franklin D Roosevelt, would you be impressed that slavery should not hold family back when hard work and education could lift them out of poverty? I think its a success story myself. We were cousins of Samson Occom co founder of Dartmouth College and descendent of Uncas the Mohegan. Yes our family was at Fort William Henry just like in the the movie. The cartoon maybe insulting but I just laugh at the ignorance of this bygone era.
Imagine our 2nd cousins, the Green Mountain Boys, Ethan Allen and Remember Baker talking with their Indian Cousins that spoke French English and translated Latin and Greek/Hebrew Bible text into Algonquin. That sort of breaks the mold of expectations. 🙂
Or the same slave/warrior married to the CT Governors Niece Elizabeth Mintern Baker, of John Winthrop Jr, The Royal Society of London with Sir Isaac Newton. Imagine the conversations at that table!
The beginning part "this includes practically everybody" WTF? I guess practically anybody who *matters* to the US's caste system but geez, even by the time this was made it was far, far from "practically everybody".
Even Before Paul did Mighty Mouse and Heckle And Jeckle,His Cartoon studio still managed to pull out good and Decent cartoons since they went to color in 1938 such as String Bean Jack(1938) And The Three Bears(1939),which was famous for spawning a phenomenal scene(Somebody Toucha My Spaget!). But I’m glad he did manage put out a special cartoon for Thanksgiving.
Thank you for uploading these. There is an old cartoon I can't fine I remember. I think it was a merrie melody with natives in black and white. I remember there being a pen to contain some kind of animal.
