It seems every manufacturer just passes the buck on installation details. E.g., this video mentions using thinset, but no mention of whether it should be modified or if a bonding or modifying agent should be used. It just says to "follow the manufacturer's instructions"... sure, but for which products? Manufacturers need to give installers proper guidance on tested procedures and products as part of an integrated building system, not treat building systems like a bunch of distinct products that get piled on top of each other. It seems they avoid such guidance so they can all pass the buck on warranty claims. The tile manufacturer blames the adhesive/ mortar manufacturer, who blames the concrete installer, who blames the tile guy, etc. It's the reason many people avoid products without proven integrated systems.
