+Tony Blackwell Thanks for sharing your opinion on which image you prefer. It's sometimes difficult to look at my own images objectively, which is a useful exercise to do when working on improving.
Really good video gave me a better understanding of composition because usually it's quite confusing but this is nice simple and to the point. Thank you
Thanks a lot Gary! Actually, I was sitting here just yesterday thinking I want to work on my cinematography, so will be working on that over the next few videos. Hopefully you will see an improvement. Thank you so much for offering the plug on your channel, I'm honoured. I've been checking out your channel and you seem to be doing very well, I'm going to watch a few this afternoon. All the best!
Hi David, like you I'm very new to RU-vid Vlogging. It's something I decided to do this year, and it's just for me to be honest. I'm a full time Photographer and teacher. I don't have too many Subs yet but they're increasing at around 700-800 per month. This is just a personal project aimed at getting my fat lazy arse out of the studio one day a week. :) I have also decided to plug newcomers like yourself. One plug per video. You'll be the first. I'm not sure what difference it will make but if you gain 20 new subs every little helps.
Thanks a lot Ian. It's difficult to be anything other than relaxed when a little sleep deprived from the early starts ;-) Glad you liked the video. I do enjoy using the drone, the worst thing is that I crashed it last week, so need to get it repaired so I can get back out there with it!
I enjoyed the content and the explanation of why you were doing what you were doing. I, like you, enjoy the early morning hours for photography because of the peace and quiet and rarely is anyone else around. It gets the day off to a good start and inspires you for the rest of the day. Your comparison of the shot taken before golden hour and then the golden hour shot is very dramatic. I did like the landscape version better because it made the windmill seem closer and more immediate than the portrait one did for me.
Thank you Loreta! This video was edited on iMovie, and I just used some of the standard colour correction settings that it offers, the rest was down to the natural, slightly hazy, warm summer morning :-)
Really nice video. If I may offer some constructive criticism, it appears you set up the camera so that the ground near the windmill was level, rather than the windmill itself, which appears tilted to the right. I would submit that, if you rotate your images slightly to straighten the windmill, you'll find that ground, rather than being level, is actually a slight rise up to the windmill, and that very rise will form an additional leading line in your composition.
You are right! Thank you! Sometimes it's difficult to put your finger on why something doesn't quite feel right, and it takes that outside perspective.
A really lovely video with something for everyone, regardless of knowledge level. Nice atmosphere, good use of drone footage and music choices. Keep it up. I will send you a PM on Facebook. I have a few questions for you.
Hi David! great shot and great video photography as well. I was wondering do you ever take picture without using the tripod? Is not possible due to the time exposition needed? thanks! PD which is the theme song you use? :)
Hi Paride. Thanks! Glad you liked it all. For landscapes I will use a tripod every time to ensure that the image is sharp. The shutter speed in some of these shots is 1/4 of a second which would be virtually impossible to take handheld without it becoming blurry. For handheld you need to achieve around 1/200 of a second at least which can be done by increasing ISO sensitivity - but that can reduce the quality of the image... so it's a balancing act really :) The music I use are various royalty free tracks that are available within the RU-vid Creator Studio.
I am really enjoying your videos it is making me look at how I go about my photography. I do it for a hobby I am always looking at my photos and feeling that if someone else looks at them they will say what the heck are you doing. I have started my own website only cos my partner he said do it. Its photopix.co.nz just like someone else other than close friends who kinda have to say its nice lol :-)
I'm glad you're getting something from my videos. I had a look at your website, and it looks like you have a good eye and some nice images there! Great stuff!
Just out of interest which Canon are you using? Looking to upgrade from my entry level crop to either high end crop (80d/7dmkii or low end full frame 6dmkii ) and trying to gather opinions from other users.... I realize what you like to shoot has an impact but nothing like an honest opinion from a hands on user :-)
+Carole Longstaff I have a Canon 5dsr. It's a 50 megapixel beast, which I love, but it is not completely necessary if I'm honest. It lacks some of the new and useful features that the 80d and 6dmk2 have, which I think look like decent cameras. You know what they say though, it's not the camera, it's who's behind it. I think the important thing is to upgrade if you want to/can afford to, because you don't always have to, and can still capture a good image on entry level cameras. That said, a new camera can do wonders for inspiring you to get out more 😀
