In this video, me and Simon go by foot and search high and low for landscape photography locations around Loch Maree in the north west highlands of Scotland. We find some great locations, we also find some not so great locations.

Please enjoy every second with that lovely dog. I lost one of mine on Monday, Rocket, a Cocker Spaniel and we are absolutely devastated.......all we have of him now is our memories. We still have his brother who sadly has kidney disease so we are restricted in what we can do but they both loved the Highlands so much. This makes me want to get back with the camera but I don't think I could just now. Love those doggy friends like they love you...

Thanks for posting this video! This is my frustration when I get to a new location. My excitement turns to frustration as I search out vantage points. Each of my trips end with me making a vow to come back to get it right next time. I'm glad I'm not alone with the challenge of finding the shot.

Thomas, nice discussion of your planning and scouting. When I look at your final composition my eye follows those fine lines (probably glacial striations) through the rock outcrop, to island and distant mountain. The striations are very subtle, however, there are so many lines it carries the eye through the frame. The transverse lines (jointing in the rock) make for a nice contrast or distraction. Thanks, I always learn something new when I watch your videos.

Superb landscape and videography! I was also happy to see a wide-angle shot again, although it somehow didn't quite excite me as much. Maybe it was even a bit too much foreground for my taste and I'd probably have liked it better in color as well (even if there was little). I am amazed, however, at the diversity of the landscape! Never knew Scotland was as varied as that. 0:10 and 0:14 would already have been nice enough landscapes/perspectives for me to take a photo :)

wonderful to join you on your journey. Almost takes us to a meditation state being with you on these walks! After you dropped in your 6-stop filter, do you still focus stack? If so, then you have to refocus each time without the filter, don't you? If you didn't focus stack, then where did you focus & how bad was the softness in the foreground (or mountain)?

“Right now it’s the middle of the day, it’s no good for photography”..... Thomas, you have truly been and will continue to be a landscape photography inspiration to me (I definitely recommend you in my blogs and presentations as well :) ) but I’ll be honest, that statement I have to disagree with. I’ve seen many beautiful shots come from the middle of the day. In fact, there are times I prefer those types of shots with vibrant blue skies, milky white clouds and the radiant green grass. They compliment each other beautifully which only makes a superb composition that much better! To make a general statement like that may lead newer photographers to think the only time of day they should shoot is sunrise or sunset. It’s funny that this came up because just the other day I was thinking to myself how I’d really like to see you do some outings that are more mid-day based. Maybe this will help :) - sincerely, one of your biggest fans!!

Enjoyed the video as always Thomas :) I couldn't agree more about getting your boots dirty and taking it all in on foot. However, there's a lot to be said for watching videos, reading books/magazines (especially the FotoVue series of books, and videos by Mads Peter Iversen) when scouting for locations. As a domestic appliance engineer, living in Kent. It's hard finding the time to get out (especially to the best locations, which tend to be North/West). So it's not easy finding time to put my boots on :( Also, I have a question. Do you ever send the drone out across and lake/across a valley etc. in order to see if there's a descent view from the other side, instead of walking for another half hour?

PS: A minor thing, don't want to sound too harsh and I know there's no bad intention from your side, but it would be nicer, if you don't name yourself first, ie "Me and Simon ...".
