Much respect to this style of drumming. I came up corps style, where I notice on RU-vid is super toxic and always talking bad about this style, but I think this style offers so much groove as well as visual and technique. I love the way the drums are tuned and the overall sound of these lines. Once again much respect.
Truth is, Hbcu lines are just hated on because people tend to gravitate more towards the showstyle "sound" & that groove. Thanks for your positivity, mucb respect 💯🎶
Good to see videos of our black kids doing something other fighting and being Killed on camera. Lets continue to promotes greatness, one black man at a time.
Home team showing they can chop with the best of em plain and simple. Can’t say TSU didn’t show out and surprise everybody. Folks expected a bunch of old “boring” material and got some funk from TSU 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾.
As I CME preacher and a high school Drumline instructor, what a joy to see Lane playing as such a high level. Keep it going hope to visit the school one day and see you guys in person. I have always love Tennessee state line.
I was JUST thinking when I saw the thumbnail, "Man. A battle against TnSU would be great!" Plus I haven't seen solid footage of TnSU in awhile. *gets comfortable*
I'm not even halfway through the battle: BR Sounds GREAT!!! I love the uniformity and interwoven points, counterpoint, etc. Everyone is listening to each other and the groove is impeccable. BUT I have NEVER seen this version of TSU. I've always heard about how well they can chop but never saw it. Their playing is on another level. As good as BR is, they actually look like they know they've been exposed whenever they answer TSU. Even the basses surprised me during their first solo. This material was clean and VERY complicated. Both lines did extremely well...but victory ro to TnSU. Great job!
Not in a percussion battle it doesn't matter at all. I watch lane get at TC a few years ago when they was small. Now that they are big the tables was turned on them. By looking at this youd think BR has the bigger band. But they are no where close to TSU size. The rat patrol is smaller this year but they surely can hold they're own. #AoB
BR cymbals held the rest of the Drumline the snares were clean but uniformly basic chops so I’ll give it to Tsu like everyone else I’ve been waiting for this battle a long time
We need to get PeachState DrumLine in the percussion battle one day this was a good battle though #ShoutToBothDrumLinesTheyDidTheyThing #PercussionSectionAllDay
By this battlenyoud never know who has the bigger band in general. RP numbers have been down a little..growing up I never saw them with less then 10 snares...In a percussion battle to me numbers dont really matter. I watched BR when they was small hang with TC & they was huge.. Once again great job both lines....
PridedWaif lol it’s not easy tsu shit complicated all lane got is simple mixed together solos they all sound the same but ig when you in a comfortable spot it’s hard to get out, the own alumni said they were boring per usual 🤷🏽♂️
....also, BR please stop playing during the other line's solos. I get the healthy disrespect, but you're past the point of having to prove yourself to other lines. I think whether there are fans or not, we can all agree that you've established yourself as a drumline who is not to be taken lightly. You're too good of a line for that. It should be beneath you. *edit* Just like when TSU was finished. They were completely finished. When they walked out they didn't even acknowledge BR without any trash talk because it seemed like they were convinced that they handled themselves. Keep the intensity but I just think there should be a certain restraint that comes with your confidence now. Great job. It's always a pleasure seeing you play.
Simplicity vs Technicality. I’m not surprised people go with the simple easy material opposed to the complicated material. I see why Meac can’t stand the people from our style lol.
Stephen Cole I know that.... let me say it again. I see why Meac people can’t stand Traditional play style schools because simplistic is chosen over technicality. Tsu was simple, Lane was the technical one. Difference in level of material is very visible. Flashy vs Choppy. That’s what this is.
Makavxlli_23 Ignorant. None of the cadences that were played sounded the same. Of course a person that’s ok with mediocrity and don’t know what rudiments are even being played would say that.
Aye bro it's a clear different between simplicity and mediocrity.. have you ever heard of the phrase "K.I.S.S." meaning (Keeping it simple stupid) TSU style isn't to have that heavy Collision of drums all played at full volume. Their drums are tuned for quality, distance fitting for outside range, and complimented to the sound of the band as a whole. Now if they were to go for broke with all of their parts that would sound terrible and clash together.. so even if it's simple to you, it's fitting to their prospective program.. sometimes you just wanna bump and not have to rewind and focusing in on every section 1 by 1.. that's the main reason why almost all new material made in the last 5-7 years all sound the same or too similar.. everything extra complicated isn't always good.. outside of drummers, it's a whole audience of people that hate drum battles because they don't understand what's being played.. so the eyes of 90% that aren't drummers that is watching the video or seen it in person might actually be turned off by how much shit is going on in one cadence.. not only that, a battle is style vs style.. not how many rudiments or solos you playing because if you wanna talk technicality, I bet 100% of TSU section got their scholarships because they are musically inclined percussionists, not a group of drummers..
Only thing I dislike about this Battle is how Lane played over TSU while playing solos. TSU allowed Lane to play there solos why not give the same respect in return. Overall good match up and battle. Just my 2cents🤷🏾♂️
1namillion83 I dont know what your screen shows, but my screen shows TSU playing over Lane the first rounds during Lane’s cymbal solos. Then I see some adjustments being made..... maybe your screen shows something different 🤷🏾♂️
@@justinwilson9905 stop what? MDF$ has consistently been the top HBCU percussion section for the past 30 years. They made schools change their whole style. Like I said even the cymbals are proficient in playing snare. MDs competition is not other sections, it's their past. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YzhKmxU6mQE.html
Liquid Light bruh.... I understand and appreciate history. But history also says that MDFS hasn’t run into a BUZZSAW like Bloody Rain!! So I hear you, but history can’t save, fight or help you when we line up across from you! Ask EVERY section we have lined up against! #FACTS
Coming from a true War and Thunder fan ( Jackson State baby), I dont have a dog in this fight, but Bloody Lane, or who ever the fuk they are, chopped the hell out of TSU.. wasnt even close
Lazy Smurf played new shit tsu aint saw nobody all year 🤨 ofc they got new shit to play 🤧 BR got the material 🤷🏽♂️ tsu had material too dont get me wrong this by far was my favorite battle all year 💯 them boys were nice but look at the material with ya eyes and ears you'll see what im saying 💯
Lazy Smurf Nigga what?!!? >Complicated and Tsu snares being in the same sentence. Bruh y’all ignorance is completely showing. It’s not even funny no more.
I calculated 2 dropped mallets, 3 sectional solo clashes, dynamic slaughter, niggas practice in the air before they play and hella unprofessionalism.. ion know about y'all the new age young niggas of the drum world but that consitutes a solid L for Lane to me..
RP need to get a better wardrobe. Lane killing just off the gear. RP needs to understand, you cant dance your way out of an ass whooping. If RP cannot deal with BR then they cant deal with WT and maybe even TOP. RP needs to reinvent themselves.
Out of all the things that need to end in this new age Drum culture/world, can We please let playing a book of solos in a face to face battle DIE!!! That's shit makes the battle extra boring, too long, and is really for football games.. niggas need to stop force fitting 4 quarters of solos in what supposed to be an organized 10-15 minute battle... There's no reason this 1 on 1 should be a half-hour long
MDFS and Cold Steel would blow there doors off period. They material is to easy for those percussion squads. It was a close battle though RP a little better.
Harold Morning facts 💯 MDFS & COLD STEEL have two different styles yet remain top notch .. neither one of these lines would come close to touching them.
MDFS and CS are better at percussion features. That's what they do. And it more Corp style drumming. If they do have face up battles it's not as long as the more traditional style drumming.
How was this a close battle?? Tsu got a lil groove but they not really playing shit and it all sound cluttered and they snares still barely playing it😂😂 ..Lane ran off with this one💯
Justin Wilson recruitment???? Are you blind? Tennessee State band is more than just the percussion section.....Their band alone pushes 200+ on the field every year.....Tenn St has been using leg tenors for ions, just like my school FAMU, and also Alabama State.......No need to change....
@@cojack424 are we talking about horn recruitment or percussion recruitment?? I don't care about the horn section pushing 200 lol. The percussion section needs the recruitment. They aren't nearly as deep or as good as 2014 RP.
Your company needs more skilled camera operators. Too much constant movement, no closeups or busts, not following the action on the floor, pan too fast to absorb action. Mostly the same shots over and over. It appears no planning of shots was made, just going along with the occasion.
No need to critique man. This footage is great! Killa Kev does a great job with his footage. If it weren't for him (and a few others) we wouldn't get to see this. You'd be surprised at how this footage is encouraging to the youth.
