Schönes Video, besonders das Testen ob die Technik funktioniert. Kenne fast die gleiche Technik als snake disarm aus dem Inosanto Kali

The problem I see I s the capture of the blade in your armpit. If you caught my blade like that I would just yank my blade in order to cause as much damage as possible. I get the wrist binds but...

Hey, thanks for your comment! I understand the concerns, and yes, there's a certain risk to it (and there's a possible counter to every technique). However, in our experience, catching only the blade can work well, too, because (a) if you catch it close to your body (keep your elbow in!) and give it a little twist to your opponents outside (your left), the angle to yank it out gets quite weird and awkward, also (b) your opponent also has to deal with your own Messer rising up and aiming for their face. But, as I said in the video, I too feel safest when also catching part of the arm. My personal impression is, to best deal with it, release your Messer as soon as it gets caught and try to work against the cut to the face empty handed. Cheers, Ulrik

I don't think you will be able to really yank it with the wristbind. Also if the opponent is wearing long sleeves I don't think you'll do much (if any) damage with the yank.

i played this move with two friends, each one of us found, independently, the counter, right on time during sparing... a cut under the arm on the artery. and it's realy fast and effective. bad idea... three out of three respond at the first attempt...

Of course there's at least one possible counter to every technique. Our experiments with the action you describe show (1) it needs to be exactly the right timing or else your Messer will the locked in place - if you wrap your arm around correctly it's a pretty tight grip - or you'll be distracted by a blade cutting to your face. (2) there's always the "curse of knowledge" to take into consideration. If you know which technique your opponent will perform, of course you'll have more options to react accordingly. And (3) if the initial attack comes with a certain intention behind it, it's not that easy to stop and change into an upwards cut. Have you watched the part on "pressure testing" in the video? We were actually trying to do this exact counter a couple of times - if the technique is done correctly, it's not as easy as it sounds. That being said - I'm happy to review any recorded material you can provide to give you a couple of pointers, if necessary. :) Cheers, Ulrik

@@die.freifechter thx, i'm a beginner and as a beginner i watch for every way i can get myself out of every move...(i'm not an intuitive guy, i'm more likely to learn all the possible ways beforehand) that being said, we all found the issue quite fast... but maybe with speed or if you strike at the same time as the opponent and don't realy finish your move to grab him... just stab your messer in his eye! 🙂 sincerely
