The great thing about Cruijff's wisdom is that he never intended any of these deeper meanings. He was really just talking about soccer, but people took his quotes and ran with it.

Actually the use of forms like "jij heb" and "hij heb" and the merger of the words "kennen" and "kunnen" are commonly heard in western dialects like Amsterdams and Rotterdams. Of course if you're learning the standard language this would be a mistake, but for Cruijff this was just his natural way of speaking

@@riconl2937 Ik wil niet pedant overkomen, maar wat is daar lastig aan? Liggen/leggen, kennen/kunnen zijn totaal verschillende werkwoorden met een totaal verschillende betekenis.

@@ronaldderooij1774 Ik heb een vriendin die in Rotterdam geboren en opgegroeid is en een kei is in Nederlands is maar die 'als' blijft zeggen ipv 'dan'. Zoals in; ik vind deze jas leuker ALS die andere. Ik denk dat mensen het verschil tussen en liggen en leggen wel weten maar in hun spreektaal een en ander niet zo snel in de juiste context weten te plaatsen.

Johan Cruijjf had a very noticeable Amsterdam accent as well and he was very direct when giving opinions as a good Dutchman, he never beat around the bush, minced words or sugarcoated especially in interviews and press conferences!

Ik vond deze video erg leuk en nuttig voor iemand die Nederlands leert. Bedankt. Ik ben niet zo jong en ik zag hoe briljant Johann Cruiff speelde. Hij had ook succes als de trainer van Barcelona. Het is jammer dat hij niet meer in onze wereld is.

Wat een ontzettend leuk idee weer voor een video! Heel goed om ook te leren dat Nederlanders zelf zich ook heel vaak niet aan grammaticaregels houden. Heb je al eens een video gemaakt over de verschillende talen, dialecten en accenten in Nederland? Lijkt me leuk om je studenten eens Fries, Limburgs, Haags etc voor te leggen of iets dergelijks

Het is discutabel of het fouten zijn.😂 Het is immers niet per se bedoeld als standaard Nederlands. In dit geval gaat het over plat Amsterdams. Amsterdamse taalpuristen uit een of andere kroeg zullen heel tevreden zijn, terwijl taalpuristen die zich bezig houden met het standaard Nederlands wel heel veel fouten en onleesbare zinnen zien.

Geweldig, complimenten. Ze halen er zelfs de taalfouten zonder problemen uit. Daar kan menig Nederlander nog een puntje aan zuigen.

Ik had tijdens mn opleiding iemand in de klas die Nederlands leerde En die haalde hrt er bij tekst ook zo uit.. Maar die jongen had dus 3 jaar bijna niks anders gedaan dan die dingen leren

Absolutely, the essence of communication is the transfer of meaning. If the intended message is successfully conveyed and understood, then the goal of communication is met, even if there are grammatical inaccuracies. Grammar is important for clarity, but it's the meaning that truly connects us.

Ik geef vrij weinig om voetbal, in 1974 was er die WK-finale Duitsland-Nederland waar ik als 12-jarige verplicht naar moest kijken omdat we op visite waren bij een oom in Zwolle. Het waren de zwaarste uren in mijn leven. Geen bier voor mij want te jong en er waren ook geen heerlijke toasts met zalm of dergelijke dus nog met honger naar huis ook. Wat ik nog wel herinner is dat iedereen Johan Cruijf de beste speler vond maar ik zag het niet. En omdat Nederland verloor werd de stemming er ook niet beter op. Vijftig jaar fast forward: vroeg gepensioneerd, geëmigreerd naar CUR, geen TV meer in huis dus ook geen overlast van al die verschrikkelijke brood en spelen. Wel behouden is mijn liefde voor de Nederlandse taal en daarom bekijk ik de video's van Bart met veel plezier. Warme groet en kom eens logeren @BisentoHill.

What a great idea and what great reactions. I hope you did warn them that Cruijfisms leave most Dutchmen confused at first too. It went a lot better than I expected honestly. I think this is a valuable lesson, like the lady at the end says; the Dutch make mistakes in their own language too.

Je zou kunnen zeggen dat het toen de Amsterdamse straattaal was, zeker geen dialect. Nu bevat straattaal allemaal buitenlandse woorden/slang, maar in de tijd van Cruijff nog niet.

@@RealConstructorstraattaal is ook een soort van dialect. Het heeft zijn eigen regels die sprekers van het standaardnederlands niet begrijpen. Iets kan fout Nederlands zijn maar "correct" straattaal.

Louis van Gaal (also from Amsterdam) is another good example of blunt Dutch who really speaks his mind and never sugarcoats, a very typical no-nonsense attitude of his. In fact, many people think he's toxic, rude, opinionated, loudmouthed and arrogant because he never beats around the bush with his comments during press conferences. This communication feature is very common in North and South Holland or in the Randstad in general (the triangle composed by Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague).

This used to be the Amsterdam folk dialect. Within the dialect there are no errors in grammar, in these examples. But from the reference language point of view, when you take these mistakes as the new norm for 400 years, you get English. Or after more than 1,000 years, French. In this "Amsterdams" there was not a big difference with ABN - General Civilised Dutch - except for the prosody. More melodic phrasing of sentences.

Good fun, but the voice behind the camera can be difficult to hear. Production values on all Bart's video series are _par excellence_ (erm, "bij uitstek"?!) including the candidate's mic. How can the presenter's audio have been overlooked?
