I started my scotch journey, like a lot of people, with Mac12. Eventually I got to Ardbegs and Laphroiags. This is a bottle is good marriage of the three. Not incredibly challenging at all but good for nights when you just want a nice easy dram.
I live in New Zealand and struggled to find this. But last year I met a guy in Napier NZ, at his Whisky Bar, and he had imported a bottle. I bought it and opened it in his bar to share the first pour with him. I love it, but I’m halfway through and don’t want it to end.
Just a couple of points: I like the 10 Sherry Oak Finish more than the sherry-finished Càirdeas bottlings for about £20 less and I'm always a bit sceptical when I hear that "Laphroaig is not for beginners" - when I have done introductory Scotch flights for people (admittedly in the U.K. not the U.S.A.) Laphroaig 10 has been the most popular 14 times, with Balvenie 12 DoubleWood and anCnoc 12 just once each (in fact, one of my 'guinea-pigs' was so impressed he insisted on buying a bottle on the way to his train home!).
I was a little under impressed with this one, it just seemed to fall flat on the palate. Did a side by side flight and it was last place after CSB15>LORE>QC>10>10Sherry. Still an ok pour and glad I got it
Interesting. I thought it would have done better across the board. I love Sherry and Islay whisky. Fair that this is not "Laphroaig" but just peat and sherry. Still, I'm sure I'll buy a bottle if I see it here.
