An amazing canoe trip, through some of the most breathtaking scenery in the northeast!
Join Cam, Sheree, Leah and myself as we paddle 70km down the Larder River. This was to be Sheree's first whitewater experience, and the river provided a perfect smattering of intermediate to advanced rapids to lean and grow skills.
This was our 2020 backcountry opener, delayed to June due to the pandemic.

Grew up in the area, but haven't paddled this route yet. Almost did it in high school but to avoid crowds we paddled the Misema from Hwy-66 to the 80 Foot Falls north of Englehart. What a disaster lol. I might have to add the Larder River trip to my to-do list after seeing this.

@@dillonhillier It was an epic trip last summer. I paddled from the town of Larder Lake at their marina across the lake and down the river to Raven Falls. Day two I only made it to Ward Lake and got rained out so set up camp early and chillaxed in the tent. Finished on day 3 on Wendigo Lake. Plan to go re-do the river and start on Raven Lake and go down to at least the Blanche River. Maybe do the Blanche as well out to Lake Temiskaming if I have the time. The videos on my channel although my editing skills aren't as good as this video was. But hey, it's all about being out there and having fun.

@blackspruceroutes 2 года назад
@@ExploreTheBackcountry I would guess the Prospector is a wetter ride. The Esquif equivalent to the Moisii would be the Canyon 16 or 17 foot. In my expert opinion! Hahahaha! I have an older 16 foot Royalex Prospecteur. The rocker is 4". The equivalent in Tformex is the" prospecteur sport" otherwise the prospecteur is a little less rocked... Maybe 2" not sure. All this from a conversation last summer on a river expedition... ;-) I grew up in the Larder area... You have inspired me to go back there and give that river a run!!! Thank you!!
@ExploreTheBackcountry
@ExploreTheBackcountry 2 года назад
@@blackspruceroutes without checking specs, I think you're bang on there. The Moisie is certainly the sportier of the two vs the Prospectuer and definitely runs a bit drier. I've paddled a Canyon, but never swapping runs like this trip so I can't get a direct comparison in feel, but it's real close to the Moisie. In general, the TuffStuff turns quicker as the hull is a bit more rigid. We did a 3 canoe expedition this summer and everyone rocked decked prospector hulls (Royalex, TuffStuff and T-Formex). Probably the nest overall combo for a big trip with varrying conditions. Larder Lake area is pretty amazing. i was blown away by the scenery. I think I want to take a crack at the Misema system next.... Happy paddling!!
