Absolutely! Reggie grew up in LA, BIG Lakers fan, and yet he started admiring Larry when he was at UCLA. It's too bad Reggie (and Larry) didn't get that NBA Championship back in 2000, because it would have been soooo cool watching Reggie and Larry embracing and celebrating. Reggie was not only a great player, but is a great guy.
after hitting an impossible buzzer-beater to win the game....the reporter said...WOW! what an incredible shot...bird responded...as much as i practice, it better have gone in....he lived on the basketball court...and, when he was in the boston garden...forgettabout it...loved watching those old celtic teams play....TEAM basketball...I agree with you all....love the respect reggie has for coach! and you are right reggie does a great job filling in for dan patrick...
I always love when someone ask larry on the spot about the trash talk stuff, he is legitimately almost embarrassed about it, because it's not really his personality away from the game, but once they get him talking , he will kinda open up a little and that competitive juice gets going😂❤ Reggie was never one of my favorite players, but you had to respect his shot and drive. I like Reggie alot more now, he's alot of fun to listen too and he knows alot about the game, past and present. Kudos to larry legend and Reggie for a great and entertaining interview.
Larry Freak'ng Bird!!! If anyone has ever witnessed him play, you will never forget it. This man can do anything and everything he wanted to do on court. If he could imagine it in his mind, it was done. He was just that talented. I'm mean no one fulfilled the WOW factor more than Bird. There are many highlighted videos of him that just make your jaw drop. But believe me, you really had to watch him play live, either on TV or in person. And he is just so humble that he never talks about himself in interview. You have pester him to get any info on how he played. He will always say how great other players were and yes they were great until they are compared to you. And then they pale. Of course, there will never be another man with your natural basketball talent. You made the game look so easy and you terrorized everyone. Literally terrorized his opponents to the point where some either had chronic nightmares or quit basketball altogether. There are youtube videos of players that quit the NBA because of him. And no one has said that about any other player. That's why he's called the Legend. And that's why the GOAT label is too restrictive. His true title is simply God on the basketball court (GOTBC).
Mr. Larry Bird was the very best all round basketball player period. Like a former Celtic once said, Larry was playing chess while everyone else was playing checkers.
Great interview....it just FLOORS me how HUMBLE these BIG TOUGH guys are:...Isiah....Magic, Reggie, Dr J, they all are incredibly articulate and so quick to talk about how GREAT the other guys were...its a wonderful thing. Everyone EVERY ONE....thought Larry Jo was the deathstar, the "chubby white guy" who couldn't jump, was SLOW and talked trash....but won, and mostly won the RESPECT.
I'll bet Bird can remember every shot he took, or any stand out play his teammates made. Bird brought anticipation to the game. On offense you didn't know if he would shoot a three, or go inside to the post, do that beautiful fall away or make a blind pass. Not to mention his rebounding. I loved watching Bird and the Celtics Parrish, McHale, DJ, Ainge and even Walton when he arrived. Walton was a great passer. That doesn't begin to tell what a great team the Celtics were in the 1980's.
Larry had perfect recall of the game (Reggie/MJ) within seconds of entering the conversation. Does he actually have photographic/total recall? Stone.Cold.Killer- on the court
I read in one book or article that he does have a photographic memory. He remembers every detail of every single NBA game he played in with uncanny accuracy.
"I never worked on my 3-point shot" - the winner of the first 3, 3-point shootouts in the NBA. ....and he didn't. He didn't need to. What he had was pure, and nightmarish. What we see today with the 3 is evolution of the game. It's not bad, it's what 20-30 years does to the adjustment of how the game is played. As much as Larry is maybe the GOAT, Pistol Pete was 50 years ahead of his time, that dude was 70% Steph, with 30% white chocolate.
I think one of the h e never really concentrated on practicing 3's was that they were just long 2's until he was 24. He probably practiced them about as often as much as a player would practice a trick shot, figured out the rhythm and coasted on instinct the rest of the time.
@@jaded9234 They were 3 pointers the year Larry entered the NBA - but it did take over 2 decades for the NBA to catchup to the records Louis Dampier set in the ABA for them, DESPITE the NBA having a slightly shorter 3 point line.
Reggie Miller is a top on-air talent. He has a pleasant voice, never stammers, stutters, or uses bad grammar, and always seems happy. His very presence makes a show successful.
Legend! Other than Michael Jordan Larry Bird is the most Savage, best basketball player & most revered! him and Michael the only ones that you see walking down the hall that you just stop and Awe!
Wow. Hell of a comment in taking the responsibility on his shoulders (Reggie) for the finals vs Lakers. LA with Kobe and Shaq. Reggie was the only real star on Indy and he gave em' a run for the money. Hell of a competitor.
I agree. Jalen Rose played the best ball of his career as Reggie's sidekick. Bird didn't get too high or too low and his persona at least in that regard, seemed to translate to his players. And with Reggie, you were almost never out of a game.
Viejotrueno No doubt about that, as Finals opponents, the Pacers gave the Lakers the biggest challenge, especially during that first three peat in the early 2000's.
-Who would win a three point contest Larry Bird or Reggie Miller ? Larry Bird:Now? -No, In their prime! Larry Bird: hahahahahahaha I would win ,hands down!😂😂😂😂💸🏀
As a former Laker fan. I hated Bird, he broke my heart so many times. However, I've become a fan. He's a great guy. Things that really made me mad when he played, are funny now. I always tell my Grandson when he picks his 2k teams, be sure to get Oscar Robertson, Shaq, Bill Russell, Jerry West, Magic, & Bird. He was a great player, a great coach, & I can finally say just a great person. Well done, Reggie, you're a bad boy too! (Btw when OKC got the Sonics/Thunder I had to go for them, home team & all. Until that happened, I was purple & gold all the way, always had been.)
This is very typical Larry Bird. You know that many have tried, but failed, to get him on their show, or, to do an interview. My guess is that 99% who inquiry never get past his agent or team spokesperson. But, his loyalty to former teammates and players that he had coached (and respects) is deep and irreversible. Once you are his friend (this comes directly from Magic) you have a friend for life. Reggie, who was sitting in for Dan Patrick, enhanced the program by getting in a great guest; Mr. Larry Joe Bird. Larry knew that his coming on the show would be a boost for Reggie, who did a great interview. His questions to Larry were spot on. You never want to ask Larry a really stupid question. He will call you out in it, and then turn to answering all subsequent questions in mono syllables...an interviewer’s nightmare. Love the Larry.
What I love about Larry and Reggie Miller is that Miller is a HOFer and one of the best shooters of all time and yet he speaks to Larry Bird as if Larry was Santa Clause. Lol. Likewise, Bird was always one of the most humble greats ever. In spite of his notoriety as a trash talker, Bird downplays himself as if he was a below average bench player. Lol.
YaUncleDrew215 Everyone says that. He was actually just as good driving the ball and scoring at the rim as LeBron, just doesn't dunk as fancy, was a great team defender, great rebounder, and was an amazing passer. Don't forget about his shooting ability. LeBron and Larry are very very close LeBron is just more athletic and Larry is a better shooter
Larry actually mentioned a very good point about players today giving so much time practicing 3s. For sure the vets would do the same if they lived and played today. Given what they achieved not having enjoyed the technology of today, thats what really impressed me.
When Bird was playing the 3 pt line didn't exist until his rookie year! Coaches discouraged players from using that line! Lol. He's had to adapt to a lot of changes throughout his career. That's why I don't understand the doubt that some have regarding Birds game translating well into today's game. Bird could play in any era!!!
In other interviews, Larry has said that he never practiced the 3 *before the first 3 point shootout*. I don't recall any interview where he has said he didn't practice it AFTER that point.
Why would Larry "want to run a little bit more", or "score more on the defensive end (steals?)", or have pre-set team goals "to score 104-105 ppg", rather than mold a "TEAM" to play the game of basketball the way he played it? ...the Celtic way! Only one TEAM, only one expectation: WINNING.
why do some videos not show the date they were posted? it's annoying . not so much when it's videos of legends , but on more recent current things it sucks.
Really was. The mutual respect and admiration each have for one another is terrific. Each succeeded beyond nearly everyone's expectations. Bird, too slow, supposedly didn't have the greatest H.S or collegiate competition. Reggie, had serious problems with his legs as a child, too skinny. Turns out they both did fine, to say the least.
+Ty Wilson hmm.probably the guy that's more durable, stronger, faster, just as smart, just as good of a passer,HAS PLAYED FOR LONGER IN THE NBA,has more mvps, more career points and assist with just as many titles as Larry with the 3rd coming against a 73 win team.the man you love to hate the most😏The King
+Ty Wilson I mean you made up weaknesses.lebron has had to live up to pressure no other player has dreamed of.that takes mental toughness.to discipline your self to get to the league without a father in your life takes mental toughness.TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP FOR A CITY THAT HASN'T WON ANYTHING FOR HALF A CENTURY AGAINST A 73 WIN TEAM TAKES MENTAL TOUGHNESS.so miss me with that bullshit.by the way lebron and michael are TOP 2 for playoff buzzer beaters and go ahead shots in the final 10 seconds and in overtime.as usual a lebron hater catches work once again.witness greatness bitch.and do some research before you blabber out lies
