Yep i agree with what you say whole heartedly! BUT if it WASN'T for for folks taking these vids we would have lost a glimps of what vegas was like back then and should be considered now as historical documentation! ..AS we ALL KNOW vegas don't like to dwell on its past and allways looks to the future much to its own detriment i may add!

My parents have a bunch of these from I think 1998, hours of wandering around Vegas. I'll see if we can get them digitised. I remember videoing a crazy lightning storm from the top of Stratosphere .

@@dizzydevil547I don't know that I would call it a detriment. My first trip to Vegas was in 1991 and I've been hooked ever since with multiple trips every year. I haven't gone on vacation anywhere else in 30+ years.which is crazy to think about now, but there's so much to see and do. Anyways, thanks to the original poster of the video. It really brings back memories of when I first got hooked on Vegas.

Hey Jeffrey. Thank you for your comment and thank you for watching. It is amazing to see everyone looking up and not down at their phones. Ironically, I had one of the first bag phones in my company car at the time I took this video. If I remember correctly, it was like $2.99 a minute on peak hours and $.99 on off-peak hours. It was very expensive but very cool to have a car phone back then. I think off peak hours started at 9 PM. I used to call all my friends from my car at 9:01 lol

Oh wow, this was incredible. Before cell phones, before everybody, filmed, everything, people were looking up and talking with one another… Before social media, and before people were rude to each other, and didn’t speak to one another, unless it was to yell or say something mean. I miss this so much I wish we could go back. So many people several generations will have no idea what this was really like and how wonderful it was.

You saw in this video, exactly what I saw when I discovered this tape decades later. I had never watched this until just before I posted it. I had to buy, an 8 mm video camera off of eBay so that I could transfer it to digital. It was worth the time and money. Thank you for watching this and I’m glad you enjoyed. I grew up in the 90's and definitely do not miss those days and totally embrace todays technology. I remember getting lost and having to pull over to check a book full of paper maps. I remember having to search for a payphone just to find it was broken or spit on. I remember how easy it was for people to get away with crimes since there weren't cameras everywhere. I remember what a mess car accidents were before dash cameras when it was all your word against someone elses. And on and on. I also remember the 90's being very violent in Southern California where I grew up. No thank you. I like todays times but I do like his video too.

Believe it or not, my family and friends used to get frustrated with me because I videotaped everything. Video cameras were rare in the consumer market. They were big, heavy, and still expensive, but for some reason I was obsessed with documenting. Of course, had I known there would be such thing as the Internet and RU-vid and that I would be able to share with the world, I would have done a much better job. Of the hundreds of videos I took, very rarely did I watch any of them until the past few years. I’m glad I kept the tapes and was able to share with people like yourself. I’m happy you enjoyed. I first moved to Vegas in 76, at 16, left in 84, but my wife grew up there and my son was born there, so we would take many trips from Simi Valley CA! To visit family. I would move back again in 99, until 2008! It was getting way too big for me then. I didn’t go back until Jan 2021, OMG I didn’t even recognize it, it seemed it had doubled from 08 until 21, now I live 90 minutes away, so it’s a nice drive especially because I go by Hoover Dam. But it’s not the Vegas I once knew that’s for sure! I lived telling people I lived in Vegas in the early years, you were almost like celebrity status 😁you live there! You’re so lucky! Back then you were!! Great video! Brought back a lot of memories!!😇

Thank you for your comment and watching my video. Yes, pretty wild to see how humanity behaved not so long ago lol. People were amazed by the experience, and nothing was taken for granted. The hospitality was second to none. The Strip was the safest place on planet earth at the time too. The shows, the food, and the drinks were all reasonable for a family. Hotel rooms and flights didn’t require a second mortgage. My favorite memory is how everyone dressed on a Friday and Saturday night. The only time you saw flip-flops was at the pool. As long as you didn’t act like an idiot or hit a jackpot, you never got carded. I was 19 years old, sitting at a blackjack table, smoking cigarettes and drinking Jack Daniels. Never once was I questioned. 😉 Five dollar prime rib dinners all day long. The hotel employees treated you like a guest, not a number. It was truly a different time. This was fun to watch! Coincidentally the first time I went to Vegas was summer of 1990, just a few months after this was filmed. I was ten, and my mother, sister & I accompanied my dad on a business trip back when he was in the car business. Being too young to gamble, my entertainment consisted mostly of arcades. Bally’s had a good one as I recall. We went to many (family friendly) shows as well. The only other time I went to Vegas was in 2003 when I could actually enjoy it as an adult. It wasn’t _too_ bad back then, but there is no way in Hell I’d go to Vegas today. It’s basically become a soulless money sucking machine from everything I’ve seen and heard. The other part of this video I enjoyed was the flying. Flying was _much_ more enjoyable back in those days!

There is something about 90s Las Vegas that I just love... Sure it was tacky, and sure Las Vegas was in this transition period where they werent sure where they were headed...Tried to be this sin city/Family fun center thing, that ended up not really working out... But the Circus Circus buffet was 2.99 for breakfast and you could have a lot of fun for pretty reasonable prices. One good thing about today Las Vegas is, if you know how to work the players card system, you could basically get comped rooms almost anytime you want.... I went for 5 nights just last month, and the hotel bill came out to around 250 bucks for 5 day stay.... Which is insane nowadays.... Try going to Florida or New York for 5 days... Hotel will be ATLEAST 1200 to 1500.

What made Vegas great was, it was an adult playground for adults. People dressed up on Friday and Saturday nights. People had class and we never once worried about our safety. I consider the LV prime years to be from about 1988 to 1999. Basically from the Mirage to the Venitian. I consider the Mirage to be the most beautiful hotel in LV. The Venitian opened the door for more luxury and opulence for the masses. I miss the small casino cafes with their 49c breakfast specials and $2.49 buffets. You could eat a $3 hamburger at the Desert Inn cafe with real silver utensils and linen tablecloths and impeccable service while watching the showgirls who were paid daily to lounge at the pool. Watching all the themed hotels rise was fun until they destroyed the older vegas vibe. You could see some fairly famous entertainers in casino lounges for free. Glad you got to enjoy it too.

Thank you so much for your comment and thank you for watching! So glad you enjoyed. I just uploaded another video I found that takes place three years after this one. Not as exciting but pretty cool to see the Treasure Island Hotel four days after its grand opening. Thank you again :-)
