I've had a similar laser for about two years, a smaller 500 watt machine. We recently switched to highly filtered higher pressure shop air (160 psi) and have found it improved our cut quality significantly over oxygen.. In our case the cost of the setup had a roughly 36 month return on investment as we cut very large volumes of small parts. I'm still putting a video together about using air with the laser since it's not really talked about. One big advantage of compressed air is that you can use the air to cool the parts to prevent oil canning that often results in tip touch errors.. It could also be a good idea to calibrate the capacitance sensor since it will change the descent speed in "global parameters" which can help the laser not have a tip touch error.. I can say you REALLY NEED to get the fume extractor hooked up, the laser dust is nasty and even small amounts over time will give you breathing issues. I have a set of fusion 360 drawings for a laser cut air filter unit that takes fairly reasonable filter packs.
@turbocobra
@turbocobra 4 года назад
Definitely would like to see more about your setup. I have been told you need 250 psi at 70cfm to get good clean cuts with air, so will be interested to see what you have done.

@@turbocobra Hey got the video put together ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1eQA20tuKMQ.html.. I'm still working on the air compressor part showing what we put together and what other options are out there, because mine caps out at around 14 gauge sheet metal. There is a way to boost pressure and I'm still looking for a decent supplier of the part needed for that. Sorry wrong link at first, got the right one now.

Why do you have "DIY Fiber Laser" both in the thumbnail and video title? That's clickbait BS.
@turbocobra
@turbocobra 4 года назад
It got you to find the video right? The video was worth watching, right? So who cares! I have covered this in other videos. I am using the word DIY because I researched and contacted multiple manufactures, I structured a deal that mitigated the risk, i handled the freight/logisitcs, customs, freight broker work, I coordinated the intermodal freight at the port, I did the local rigging and transport, I did the entire installation and setup, all myself. So this is a DIY of sorts. You won't find any other content this good on youtube. But if me calling it DIY turns you off, well dont watch!
@joachim1973
@joachim1973 4 года назад
ok wtf, so if you like, pay for a 3d printer from Ebay, and get it with a car and assembled it, its actually not "do it your self" its: pay for it and assemble it. so he is totally right, when he said its clickbait, since you only can call it DIY. if you build and designed the whole thing yourself, just paying for the material, and i don't think it's cheap, as your title say. I also dont got what i wanted tho, so it wasn't even worth watching

What is the cost difference between Lazer and plasma cutters ? Your products have very fine details. I've been a traditional manual and CNC machinist for 40 years and am just starting to learn about CNC plasma cutters, and just ran across your channel cutting with Lazer. How tight of a tolerance can you hold with Lazer cutting? How tight of a tolerance can you hold with plasma. I see what looks like a plasma cutter in the back of your shop. Have you completely changed to Lazer cutting, or do you still do both? I'll look thru your other videos for info. Thank you in advanced for answering newbie questions. Take care
@turbocobra
@turbocobra 4 года назад
Average plasma table is $15K, This laser was $50K. Cost of cutting is higher with laser because of the cutting gas, but much lower consumable costs and lower labor cost with no post cut clean up work required

@Ramsey Customs - turbocobra Hi, Thank you for the cool content. I was wondering if you would give me some advice on approaching a fabrication shop in my area into giving a woman like me an internship of some kind so I could learn some of these metal working/fabrication skills. I'm really interested in learning how to etch and paint metals and work with the different types of fabrication tools . Most of my education, however, is in animal and environmental biology. I did work in a auto interior restoration shop many years ago when I was in high school and college so the opportunity to work in these kinds of atmospheres (shop based) haven't completely been lost on me. Due to circumstances, I have not been able to work in quite a while and learning this type of work really peaks my interest. I would really appreciate any advice or information you have to offer. Thanks again for the great content!

Really good metal fabricators are hard to find and can name their own price, doesnt matter if your a man or woman. Look up barbie the welder on instagram and youtube. You can develop some basic skills in your own home garage shop with nothign more than a welder and grinder, neither of which are expensive or hard to learn. from their you will be in a better position to seek a job or internship.
