Thank you so much for your videos! They have helped me so much. We have a 50W laser. I am having a hard time engraving on an empty shell casing. I can deep engrave on brass following your video on different settings for different depths; however, I cannot get it to engrave (deeply) on a shell casing. It engraves, but can easily be sanded off. Any suggestions? I appreciate any advice you can give me.

Sir I’m curious to know, how do you do a clean up pass? Can’t find this option anywhere, I usually see in videos the laser is blasting through at rapid speeds just barely marking but cleaning at the end of every job.
On a stainless anneal where you're just heating the metal to produce a black mark, they can be rubbed off after a lot of time and wear, but it's not easy. You can engrave pretty easily too if you want to add a little depth. The marking on aluminum is permanent (as long as the rest of the anodizing is still present).
Hi Jeffery, can you please make a video about photoengraving dithering? we are working only with Co2 engraving, and start with 30 watts fiber there is a lot to learn, like settings and what are the best materials to get the best engraving
Do you know the meaning of the Laser On/OFF TC(us) settings along with End and Polygon? I have not been able to find anything on these or good values? Thanks
Hi Jeffery. Have you try marking on curve surface like a dome or cylinder? Does the machine and software is able to adjust its focus length accordingly?
There is a feature called projectmark which is supposed to account for skew on a curved surface, but I really haven't found a need for it yet. The standard fiber lasers will not adjust length automatically without some kind of add ons. If you're thinking of marking tumblers, or something along those lines, and want to avoid using a rotary, a lot of people use the 300x300 lens for the wider marking angle on a cylindrical surface.

There are some laser machine that is able to adjust for the difference in height with its focusing but the distance is limited at 10mm, I am looking for something that can do at least 20mm from highest to lowest point. it is marking of a dome shape aluminium piece about 200mm diameter. Maybe I will check directly with the manufacturer. Thanks again.
@@jefferyj have you try laser marking the skull as a negative, meaning the laser will mark the surrounding area of the skull leaving the skull as the original material? I wonder if it is possible to laser mark with varying depth such that it will create a nice emboss or deboss look on the skull with a curve edge instead of a straight edge?
@@coolthought8456 You could probably offset the vectors and use different settings for each one to produce a 3d effect. Not sure how good it would look and it would require some tweaking to dial it in, but you could definitely set up different hatch/pen settings to hit certain depths around the skull leaving it raised.

I'd share it but it's actually not my artwork; it belongs to someone else so I probably shouldn't make the files public for this one. If you duplicate the settings, you should be able to get similar results since it sounds like we have the same laser.
