Just found your channel. We moved to Queensland a few years ago but me and my wife grew up and lived in Dagenham for many years. I grew up near Parsloes park and the level of nostalgia we got watching these videos is massive.

Hi mate I live in Adelaide now but been in Australia since 1981 so 43 years. I hope you’re enjoying Queensland where ever you are there…….we were the lucky ones and escaped. Parsloes is a massive park and if you get into the middle of it you need a compass to get out….its also very peaceful over that way. I grew up around Oxlow Lane shops in the 60s and 70s a great time.

That was good. I was in Goresbrook park yesterday; didn't know about the anti-aircraft defences that had been there.

During the war, my Dad lived in Downing Rd which backs onto the park so he was right in the action. One time they found an unexploded shell, so they took it over to Marylands (where ASDA is now) and threw rocks at it at a distance, luckily it didn't go off.

This took me back to my childhood; I am from Yorkshire but my farther was brought up just the other side of Goresbrook Park in Tresswell Rd. He moved up to Yorkshire to marry, but all my relatives were from Dagenham. We used to come down every year for a holiday! The highlight being climbing over the concrete garden fence to play in the park. I also remember the Chequers pub and the shops close by, the Army and Navy shop, and there was also a Joke shop selling stuff that children my age just loved. I remember my farther telling me similar stories about going out after an air raid to pick up souvenirs, the most prized being the fins from incendiary shells! Strangely enough I'm coming down on the train next week to just have a wander through the park and check out some old childhood haunts. Thanks for this video, it brought back a number of happy memories.

Thanks Dale..I found it very peaceful over Goresbrook Park as was Parsloes Park..Sadly my Dads Passed Away in May and this video was made when he was still with us and I was paying Homage to both my Mum and Dad.

@@DagenhamGilly I came to Dagenham earlier this week and was doing the same as you in that I too was paying homage to my Dad and extended family who are now no longer with me. A lot has changed around the park, but still holds many memories, the paddling pool has gone, the metal fence around the play area no longer exists and the swings etc are no longer there. After visiting the park I walked towards where the docks were; I had an uncle who used to work at Dagenham Dock, and he would 'smuggle' me with the help of security onto one of the boats to have a look around. It's all changed now as you know, and I couldn't locate the exact area he took me to as it's all new industrial units etc., but I'm guessing I was in the right area....... it's probably 45 years since I've been down that road past Dagenham Dock station, I did eventually find the Thames! All in all I had a good day, and enjoyed reliving old memories. I came across your video by accident, but it was perfect timing for my trip. Kind wishes to you.
